Let me start by saying: I really wanted to like this place. It's close to home, and the girls in there are very sweet. But this was my first bad experience at a hair salon, and I think it's important to share (since I came based on the yelp reviews)
So I scheduled my appointment for 1pm today and explained it was the earliest I could get in, Maureen (the owner) was fine with it and I was excited. It was for a consult on Keratin and color, she couldn't quote me over the phone but I understood.
Arrived today at 1 and was told my appointment was scheduled at 12:30 under the wrong name, awkward but understandable, waited about 20 minutes for her to finish up and start on me. No big deal.
She determined my hair would not be able to withstand a Keratin treatment and we moved on to color, it was decided that all I really needed was a tone to remove brassiness. I showed her some pictures of how my hair usually is done and explained the toners I have liked in the past, she said she understood what I wanted.
While she was doing my hair she was extremely distracted with what was going on around her instead of the task at hand. She used very little product and was very short with me. She also managed to do 2 other color appointments and 2 cut/style while she was doing my hair, unconventional and slightly rude (Note, none of the other stylists had been working on other clients and were very attentive to their guest). One of the colors she did was for a girl who she told "Oh honey, your appointment was at 12:30..." which was odd because supposedly that was my appointment time... seems like she overbooks herself.
After the tone was applied and a received a slight trim, another stylist washed (Nicole) per my stylists request (so she could continue with another client). When I was back in the chair, Maureen started to blow dry and reveal an almost strawberry color at my roots.... not the brown it was supposed to me. I mention I don't particularly like it, she insists it's the lighting. We walk outside with a mirror- still red. She offers to tone it darker, which I am thankful for. Unfortunately, from that point on she seemed even less engaged. Again, the issue was not with the color that resulted but with the lack of customer service and professionalism. I understand mistakes happen, it's a part of life. Back to the chair for a very rushed toner application by Maureen, then back to another client she goes.
After about 35 minutes or so, Maureen instructs Nicole (the MVP), to wash my hair again. Nicole took matters into her own hands to try and rectify the situation. She washed, blow dried my hair (even when Maureen told her I didn't want or need it??? How else do you see the final color???) and added some product.
The entire visit took a little over 4 hours.... for a tone and a trim and a blow dry!! At the tune of $215. (Funny none of this was mentioned during the consultation)
Again, I want to reiterate. The other girls produced beautiful work and never left their clients side. Nicole really saved me in there, and was genuinely concerned about how I felt. However, I was not impressed with Maureen's work/attitude (including the color jobs she did while I was in her chair). I wish the system they used would have allowed my tip to go to Nicole when I paid. Probably won't be back :( read more
