    Garddfon Inn - Seafood linguine

BOOK AHEAD TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT!…read more Right this place is a bugger to find, and when you do you might think ''What... I came all this way for this?'' Situated near the water is this little welsh pub that serves food 12 -2.15 and reopens for 6.30pm. I have been coming here for years and its NEVER let me down. Inside reminds me of my late nans room, pokey and full of brass-ware .. at the far back of the pub lies a more refined dining area with white table cloths. You can sit either in the pub to soak some local welsh atmosphere or retreat to the back. Arriving at 12 on the dot, already there were a couple of locals having a pint. The barman greeted us warmly and offered to bring our drinks over while we browsed the menu. Here you can choose from the seafood specials board, lunch and their everyday menu. I highly recommend anything that has fish in it as it is all locally sourced... After much oomming and ahhing I settled on the seafood linguine and my companions had the crab fishcakes. When the food arrived I was happy. The amount of seafood in my dish was incredible. Small and large prawns, salmon, smoked haddock, scallops and mussels all swimming in a sea of fresh homemade pasta... the sauce was a flavoursome creamy white broth which was not too dense. Everything just tasted so fresh , even the crab fish cakes served with homemade chips. By the time we were half way through our meal the place was full..again if you want to come here you must book to save disappointment. The prices are really reasonable too, our meal came to about £40 for the three of us including drinks!. Overall the fact you have to book no matter what day, says it all,,

I've never been there late in the evening drinking, only ever visited the Vaynol for food. I wouldn't even know the place existed if it weren't for word of mouth, the place is hidden away off the main road! Considering that I've never seen them advertise, and passing trade must be at a minimum, the place must rely solely on recommendations for happy customers - of which they are sure to have many. I'm a repeat customer usually going for evening meals. Only once have I been disappointed with the quality of the meal, and that happened to be a Sunday afternoon. If you would like a truly delicious evening meal it's very much the place to go, the daytime/weekend staff might not be up to scratch, or perhaps, it was just an off-day. The food isn't cheap, but neither is it outrageously expensive. You pay a few quid more than some alternatives, sure, but you get good value for money.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. Children are welcome. According to the prices I would say the Vaynol Arms is affordable. Whenever I get back to Tregarth I will truly have a meal at this nice place

This village pub does serve as a nice starting point before heading down into town though. Many locals will stay there all night. The food and drink is reasonably priced. I wouldn't say the food is cheap, but it's definitely worth the money. There's also a decent selection of drinks on offer considering this is a small village pub that focuses mainly on the food side of the business. The beer garden is fantastic in summer, four picnic tables on a grassy area, there's also a childrens play area to keep the kids happy too. A very family friendly pub during the day. There's also a generously sized car park. Not really necessary in most pubs, but this is one that you'd gladly drive to just for a meal. The car park is never empty, but you'll usually have no trouble finding a space. Highly recommended for food, not ideal for a large group of lads/girls on a night out though.

When looking around the pub you can't help but get tempted by what others are eating, so we've booked again for tommorrow. Some may say it's pricey but you wont get this quality of food for less. Big thankyou to the chef and extremly friendly staff for a great meal. Long time since I've enjoyed a meal like this which is hence this review, first time I've been bothered to write one.

The outdoor dining area is well done, though pretty chilly on the afternoon we visited. The bar area was nothing special and was barely occupied by guests during our meal. I went with the Penne Paste which was just "OK"...nothing special to the taste and arrived promptly but barely warm. My dining partner's Herb Roasted Chicken was good but again, just warm. By the way, the Stables 200ml diet coke @ 2.99 is clearly gouging and well above other local restaurants. Once the food was dropped we never saw another staff member...no surprise. We and the three tables around us agreed the place is surviving on location and little else. Service, food quality and the local reputation were sub-par. Too bad but there are other nearby options who are interested in providing a good guest experience. Spend your money elsewhere.

The bar offers a good selection of drinks and there is also a varied food menu which includes a wide selection of dishes ranging from mixed grills to pizza to currys. There's something for everyone. I opted for a medium spiced Chicken Tikka with rice (but could have had chips or half and half). Naan bread was available as a extra. Despite the bar being fairly busy the food arrived within ten minutes. Betws attracts lots of climbers and ramblers and clearly the portions are designed for people looking to refuel. Not only was the quality excellent, containing lots of chunks of chicken, but I got more than enough of it. If you're after a good feed, a nice drink and fast and efficient service then this is the place to go.
