Before going I checked out the menu on their website and was a bit surprised by the prices, which are quite expensive for what at the end of the day is a pub in North Wales. I'd more or less decided in advance to go for the Welsh steak & ale pie which at £12.95 was just about a fiver more expensive than the steak & ale pie on offer at my more familiar haunt, the Afon Conwy which is just a few miles away. I was hoping for a very special pie! First things first the pub has a large car park so parking was no problem. The interior is very nicely done albeit in a fairly predictable gastropub decor. The dining area lives up to the venue's name with several tables along the side of the building offering views of Conwy Castle just over the water. The staff were friendly and efficient although there weren't many other customers to keep them occupied so they weren't anywhere close to being kept busy. Foodwise I went with the steak and ale pie which was fortunately very good and very well presented. My wife had a Caesar salad which was also excellent. The kids opted for chicken goujons and fish and chips from the kids menu, which at £7.25 each were two of the priciest kids meals we've encountered in this part of the world. Again though they were excellent, the goujon meal came with the two biggest goujons I've ever seen and the fish was a generous portion. The best compliment I give though is that both plates were cleared, something that doesn't always happen with my kids. As always there had to be someone who ordered something I ended up wishing I'd ordered and in this case it was father-in-law whose beer battered cod turned out to be a huge piece of fish which looked to be have been perfectly cooked. As this is one of the cheapest meals on the main menu I think if I ever go back that might be the one to try. All in all the food, and accompanying drinks, were all excellent and every plate was cleared. It's just a shame it's so expensive in comparison to other places in the area. It was noticeable that the place was very quiet when we visited, in fact it was almost deserted apart from the staff. It's a real shame given the quality on offer and I was left wondering if maybe they'd get more business if they knocked a quid or two off the prices? Certainly I'd more inclined to revisit if this were the case.

However it does lack some of the old atmosphere. The Food here is excellent, a good choice of traditional pub grub and more elaborate dishes. The prices are good value and the portions are big. The Sweets are delicious, you must make room for one!! It has a nice seating are outside with stunning views over to Conwy castle, hence the name!

There are three areas a lounge, the bar area and a smoke room, in which, of course, no smoking is allowed. The lounge and the smoke room both have wonderful open fires essential as I am writing this. The welcome from the knowledgeable staff is also warm and the locals are very friendly to we incomers. There are no TV's, no juke-box and no food (other than bags of Tyrrell's crisps) so that conversation dominates. Upper Gate Street is also the road which leads directly to the Youth Hostel, making this the first pub hostellers encounter heading into town a definite plus for us!

In recent years it hit hard times and was eventually closed down. However there has been a recent development that will be of interest to proper beer drinkers. The pub has been purchased by a mysterious London based banker with roots in North Wales. He's re-opened it partnership with four local breweries The Conwy Brewery, the Great Orme Brewery, Bragdy Nant Brewery as well as the Purple Moose Brewery from Porthmadog. The pub is now a dedicated real-ale boozer with a particular emphasis on locally produced ales. There won't be any food (apart from crisps) as the premises doesn't have a kitchen so it will still be a drinker's pub but hopefully one with a more discerning clientele than of days gone by.

The food they serve is typical Pub Grub but prepared in a Gourmet style by properly trained Chefs. Much of the produce they use is local, try the Conwy Fish soup, locally caught mussels or the Angelsey Scallops. The main courses are Hearty, think slowly cooked Lamb Shanks, roast ribs of black beef or Homemade Steak and Ale Pie. The interior is warming and welcoming, with traditional low ceilings and a small bar which is always packed with local villagers. The Dining area is a little more elaborate but still in-keeping with time and tradition. During the Summer months you can opt for al-Fresco dining on the terrace. They also have a small private function room which is great for intimate parties or celebrations. Possibly the best, off the beaten track Pub in the area. Whilst its not the easiest place to get to its well worth the extra mile to taste the gorgeous food they serve. I've never been dissapointed with any meal at the Queens Head and i've been going for years! The only problem is deciding what to have when I get there!!

They have a fantastic menu and use local produce and is only a 5 minute drive from Llandudno. The food really is wonderful and they have an excellent wine menu as well as a well stocked bar and I have enjoyed meals here for many years. It's not really a child friendly place although I'm sure they would never turn families away, they don't cater for children specifically.

We strolled on over and were seated right away. I believe we only saw a small portion of the dining area and not the whole restaurant. We were seated in a very cozy area that looked like it had once been a living room. There was a big stone fireplace with a wood stove in it, and a couple small tables with seating around them. There was also a bar in the area where we ate, which was handy since we both enjoyed drinks with our meal. For our entrees, I went with the cottage pie, and my wife selected the Creamy Chicken, Mushroom, and Tarragon pie. Both were absolutely fantastic. Every single bite was full of flavor and delicious. The staff there were friendly and engaged us in friendly conversation. The restroom was clean and well maintained. I'm thankful for the recommendation we received to eat here, and I would absolutely pass on the recommendation to anyone else who's in the area. After exploring the beautiful Castle Conwy, you should definitely check out the Erskine Arms for a hearty meal.

For one thing you know exactly what you're going to get, you don't have to worry that the chef is having an off day or a day off. It also means that the food is served very quickly. It's maybe not the best place for a romantic dinner but if you're after speed and convenience it's a better option than the MacDonalds one junction down the A55. On a recent visit my wife and I opted to take advantage of the two for a tenner option, which includes a varied range of meals so there should be something to appeal to everyone. I ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala and the missus went for the Chicken and Bacon salad. The generous portion of chicken tikka was very tasty to be fair and came with rice, naan bread, a couple of poppadoms and a pot of mango chutney. The salad was huge with plenty of chicken and bacon and went down a treat. There was a 2 for 2 quid pudding option but we passed on that as the main meals were filling enough. We've also recently finally got around to trying one of the evening all you can eat buffets. There's a different theme each weekday including Chinese, Pie Night, Tex-Mex, Indian and the one we tried which was Fish and Chip night. You help yourself to whatever you want from a selection of chips, fish, fishcakes, battered sausage, chicken, meat pie, peas, mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy and once you've got your plate you go back for more as many times as you can. The quality was surprisingly good for the price, the chicken in particular had plenty of meat on it, so we're now looking forward to trying a different night to see how that compares. On all our visits the service has been friendly and efficient and we've always had someone ask if we enjoyed our meals which isn't something you always get in other places.

The lack of competition should help to make this place a success. The problem is that it's always been run more as a restaurant than a pub. The largest part of the premises is set out as a food area with a small public bar tacked onto the side. About ten to twenty years ago it had an excellent reputation and people travelled from miles around to eat there. That reputation has now faded away (although to be fair it isn't a bad place) and it's clearly now struggling. This is evidenced by the regularity at which the 'Under New Management' banner appears above the front door. I suspect that many locals have felt alienated by the way the pub has been run in the past, I lived in Mochdre for a while and rarely went there, and with the general downtown in the pub trade it will be a struggle to recover.

It ended up so bad that things could only improve... but such a Herculean task would need a very talented and determined person. HOWEVER, the Mountain View has been run by Andy for a few years now and he's done an excellent job. A lot of alterations and improvements mean a lot of money has been injected into the place. The waitress also appeared completely uninterested in helping the customers. She pushed off most customers to the bar rather than serving them in the restaurant. The food was just awful. There were 4 of us in the party and none of our food was what we expected, from the scampi to the corned beef hash. I would look elsewhere from grub in this town. There seem to be many other options.

Day to Day it is popular with locals and older clientele but in the Summer its packed with Tourists.
