A terrible experience
One star is too many.
We have eaten there today as a party of 7 plus a toddler. I have rarely had such an inadequate excuse for a meal as we experienced today.
Firstly, in the brand new extension, there are double doors leading to the outside. Every time someone opened the door, the already low temperature dropped with an icy blast. It was a good job that the outside air temperature had risen well above freezing as i shudder to think what it would be like in cold weather. Surely someone who was planning a new extension would at least put a porch to reduce discomfort to diners.
Then the meals, we had to wait over 30 mins after the starters had finished before our mains arrived. We didn't order our meal until 1.30 pm, and the restaurant was already emptying out, so the staff weren't rushed off their feet.
We asked twice where our meals were, only to be told They'll be here shortly. By this time the toddler was very grumpy and tired.
On arrival of the food, the staff were dismissal of our complaints of the late arrival.
Much of the food was inedible. A steak and ale pie was dried out and the crust was more suitable for shoe leather. Chicken that was tough, mashed potato that tasted like badly mixed instant mash. Peas like bullets, a child's pizza that was burned around the edge, the list goes on and on.
The steak and ale pie was exchanged as it was totally inedible for a chicken melt as that was the quickest to prepare, only marginally better.
No wonder they take your money up front, it puts you in a much worse position to try and reclaim for poor food and service.
To top it all, they didn't discount the bill with the deposit that had been insisted to reserve the table on booking over the phone.
One wonders if this is a clever ploy to get more money out of the unwary punter???
When questioned, the assistant manager never apologised for the mistake or bad food, just a glare.
NEVER EVER, EVER WOULD I WANT TO EAT THERE AGAIN
Very pricey for low grade food. We didn't wait for dessert as we'd been there too long. read more
