Been stopping by here off and on for years. Great store with excellent inventory. Everyone I've…read moreinteracted with has been absolutely fantastic. Helpful, knowledgeable and great to do business with. Not many of these kinds of stores for men around so when you find a jewel like this it's important to support.

I won't shop for suits anywhere else as long as I'm in Charlottesville, and here's why:…read more I went in to get a suit for some upcoming job interviews. Mike sized me up and was immediately on the phone to order my suit from his supplier, with expedited shipping at no extra charge. The price was a bit more than I'd pay at Men's Warehouse, but not a whole lot more, and the garments are of noticeably higher quality, and each suit comes with lifetime free alterations. He called me the minute it came in, and I went down to try it on. It fit great, and looked great, but I immediately noticed it was a charcoal grey, rather than the lighter grey I wanted, and which I heard Mike order on the phone. In short, I knew it was the supplier's mistake, not the Shop's. But Mike didn't pass the buck, didn't explain it away. He took accountability for his supplier's mistake, and had the charcoal suit altered for me to use in my interview, and ordered the correct grey one for me when I get back. I was expecting to give back the charcoal one, but when I returned to try on the altered suit, he insisted I keep both for the trouble. I was blown away. Mike's words were "I do business the right way, the way it used to be done". Indeed. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

And the few items that are in the store are way way overpriced. And it would seem to me, the store's customer reps are snappy and rude. The store's layout is very uninspiring, to be honest, it's quite ugly and uninviting. Conclusion: it would stand to reason why the store no longer has much of a selection of housewares and related miscellaneous items, and such would seemingly be due to poor sales of such items, thus those type of items are being shipped to other Goodwill stores. And why does the Louisa Goodwill have poor sales, well, that's obvious, everything is way overpriced. Finial conclusion, it's even more obvious: the existing management at the Louisa Goodwill would seem to sorely lack retail experience and or process any form of retail savviness. Not a pleasant shopping experience at all. It's doubtful I will return to that particular Goodwill store. And what's really a gut punch, the Louisa Goodwill store's pricing is 15 to 20 percent higher than the Goodwill stores in all of the surrounding counties. And, Louisa county isn't known to be a wealthy county, in fact, it's kind of the opposite, and that doesn't reflect any logic whatsoever, but it does reflect extremely poor management.

Alvin Dennis is a standard small-town high-end store. Serving the formal needs of residents, as…read morewell as the school spirit of both local universities. These stores are a veritable staple in the communities they inhabit. While I do admire them for playing that role, they fail to deliver on the needs of the customer. That is disappointing. Alvin Dennis charges high sticker prices for low quality goods. I have been unhappy with the quality to price ratio of every item I have purchased from the store. In a small community like Lexington, you are often backed into the corner of merchant scarcity. Regardless, I would advise spending your Saturday with a trip to Richmond or Charlottesville. Most of their factory goods wouldn't pass the $25.00 mark in a major metro. The fact that these items often cost $70.00+ is quite disappointing. Finally, they have a strict policy of 'no returns for refund'. It is well documented and posted. I certainly agree that this choice belongs to the merchant. That being said, a high end store will often differentiate itself with great customer service. 'No returns for refund' is a good first step to mediocre customer service and experience. Given their prices, they certainly feel like a high end store. Given their policies, they certainly fail to service their customers in the same manner.

The woman at the register told us to let them know first thing the next morning if they didn't fit. We get to the place we're staying at, my husband tries his on... the sleeves look like a kid trying to fit into their old jacket. Keep in mind, THEY personally measured him. No big deal, the woman said to let them know. Right? Wrong. He went the next day with my brother (whose also didn't fit) and was more or less told to suck it and deal with it. If you tell us to let you know if they don't work, but then refuse a solution - you lied. They made a big deal that the seamstress was out of town and nothing could be done. So my mom went in and had to convince them to at least fix my husband's - these are pictures and video we'll have for life and he'd look ridiculous with such a poorly fitting tux jacket. Somehow after this, a seamstress magically was available to fix it. I bet we would have been treated differently if we were locals. Horrible, biased customer service.

Every nook and cranny of this creatively designed shop was overflowing with eclectic treasures. You'd swear you'd find Iris Apfel herself shopping in this dream house! After sifting through troves of wares, I settled upon an artfully designed, one-of-a-kind vintage purse covered with charms, game pieces, gears, buttons and other miniature notions (there's even a tiny tea cup and saucer by the clasp!). One look and I fell for it, hook, line, and sinker! I was in love! And the price? A measly $38! The compliments this beauty will elicit? Priceless! As I meandered through the store, the cheerfully patterned tights tempted me... the wacky but wonderful statement necklaces wooed me... the funky and fearlessly designed tunics tempted me... the shutter displays of baubles teased me.... but I resisted...
