We have been loving SnoMo since it was on Lamar years ago. The hours are extremely limited but don't let that stop you from visiting! Their ice cream is different than your traditional ice cream shop and they offer tea as well. My kids and I love getting the large mango ice and splitting it because the portions are pretty big. We add fresh fruit and whatever sounds good at the time. We have yet to get anything we dislike. So yummy! read more

We come here about once a month as a family, and it's a rare spot that everyone is happy. I get to steer the kids away from the super sweet, dye filled desserts. The kids have choices and sweets. My husband likes iced coffee... and if it is close to meal time we can throw in a waffle and call it a meal. I love this place. They are just far enough from home that I don't get this way very often. Nothing special about the atmosphere or service. But I always order the the Almond Sno Ice.They have a big gallon can sized ice block made of Almond milk (or Almond something) that they shave in very thin layers. Then they top it with fresh fruits (I get fresh bananas and strawberries), then they drizzle on sweetened condensed milk. There isn't any other frozen ice type treat that compares. I just love the flavor and texture. It is quite different from normal shaved ice. read more

I'm currently in Austin, Texas visiting my sister and she's been raving about SnoMo for a while now so we went to try it out today. She's hyped it up so much that I was scared it wouldn't be as great as she made it seem. However, we walked in and the ambiance was great. It was clean and inviting. There was no line but we were there in the evening so it could be that it is busier in the afternoon. We ordered the chocolate sno with strawberry, mango and mochi. We also got the crazy tea. At first bite I was in heaven. It reminded me of something I have had before and it was absolutely delicious. The chocolate sno was light and fluffy, together with the fruits and mochi gave it incredible texture. The tea was great too! Lots of flavor. SnoMo is awesome! We visited from out of town, and spent about 5 days in the Austin area. This place was hands-down my favorite place for food (including BBQ, can you believe?). First off, the service was incredibly friendly. Our group had a bunch of questions about the menu the first time we went, and everything was explained patiently to us (by who I believe was the owner, or at least seemed to run the place). Unfortunately the first day, they were out of taro chunks, and I really wanted some. I settled for a mango shave ice with condensed milk, mochi, and red beans. The red beans were a bit too hard, or undercooked, for my liking, but the rest of it was DELICIOUS. I generally like my red bean softer, but I know they make most of their toppings in-house, and red bean can be tricky to please everyone with, since different people have different preferences. Thankfully, the owner / manager told us that she would make taro chunks the next day, so we returned and I got to try the taro chunks. Best decision of the trip - they were AWESOME. My ideal combination (after trying a few other friends' ices and toppings) was: mango shave ice with condensed milk, mochi, taro chunks, and almond jelly. The mango shave ice comes with a mango puree that isn't too sweet, and is perfectly complemented by the condensed milk. The mochi has just the right consistency of chewiness. The taro chunks are tender but firm, and still have a pleasantly distinct taro flavor to it, while not being too sweet. And the almond jelly simply tastes good - silky smooth and spot-on almond flavor. Honorable mention to the grass jelly, which is also made in-house, and has a soft consistency that I haven't really experienced elsewhere. It's a good setting for small or larger groups, and there's even an area in the back with couches to lounge in. The space is very clean, and the prices are reasonable (although some of the fruit toppings are pricier, understandably so). The owner / manager was very pleasant to talk to, and after she found out we were visiting from out of town, she gave us some recommendations for places to see and eat. If I lived in Austin, I would frequent this place... frequently. It's just great. read more

When I read in my community paper that Sno Mo (franchise of Snow Monster - Lamar) was opening so close to my home it was almost as good as winning the lottery (well...you know). I can't believe it took me an entire week of them opening their doors to make my first visit. I love boba tea and smoothies, but the legit IT here is the "Snow Ice!" So, some of you might be scratching your head wondering "what the heck is snow ice?" Well, it is not ice cream - although it is milk based (I think SM offers a soy version, but meh) and super creamy. It is definitely not a simple snow cone or Italian shaved ice. This special treat is traditionally a Taiwanese cold dessert (albeit varieties can be found in the Philippines, Singapore, and even Hawaii). If you've never had the pleasure of indulging in snow ice (or even if you have), it has a very unique texture and really pretty look. Maybe think super thin sliced layers of fluffy frozen cotton candy...only not as sweet and with several more flavors to choose from. Pick your base flavor (e.g., chocolate, thai tea, mango, etc.) and eat as is or choose from a plethora of toppings (e.g., fresh fruit, puddings, jellies, nuts, etc.). My personal favorite (go ahead, call it a staple) is Taro with Tapioca Boba. Part of the fun is creating "your" perfect bowl. Come on, be adventurous! Congrats to Lulu and Long in their already obvious success. Tips: *Don't forget to have them stamp your frequent flyer card for a free goodie. **Snow Ice doesn't refreeze well, so eat right away...or if you live close enough to get home before it starts melting it's A-OK...I'm REALLY in trouble right? The fluffy texture was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. I loved the honeydew flavor, but I wish I had gotten some toppings (like red bean!). Came here about 15-20 minutes before they closed one Friday night and got two tinies in one bowl to go. There wasn't really anyone there so our order was done really fast. After checking hours online and verifying hours on sign in business window the door was locked 30 minutes before closing time with employees still inside. There isna huge variety on the menu andbwhile the drinks were top notch I bought one at an Asian deli in Shreveport for half the cost of these PLUS they used homemade strawberry flavoring from there as opposed to the mix at SnoMo. Service was great. We got the regular snow ice, the Taro w/Mochi topping and Matcha Green Tea w/Almond topping. Taro - the first few bites had the hint of taro but afterwards it was watery. Thought it was made from real taro since they had taro chunks as their topping but it tasted like powder taro. Matcha Green Tea - quite bland and watery. Wouldn't recommend this if you're a Matcha fan. The almonds that we got were a bit stale as well. Overall it's good but wish the flavors were a bit stronger. read more

We have our own snow monster, and it's better than the one on Lamar! I'm gonna be so fat by the end of Summer. This location offers three bases: Snow ice uses a milk base, shaved ice uses water (just like a snow cone), the hippies and other undesirables can opt for the soy base. Then you pick your flavor, size, and toppings. My personal favorite: Taro with condensed milk, maybe some crunchy topping. Though it's a Taiwanese staple, this is the only place that I've ever had snow ice, and it's freaking amazing. It comes out in shaved ribbons, and despite looking dense, it's actually incredibly light and delicate. As an added bonus, there's a large, shaded, communal deck that overlooks part of the Lakeway golf course in the back of snow monster, making it an amazing place to cool down! Protip: The "small" size feeds two easily. Stick with the small, avoid the toppings, and you can get out of here for $4-$5. read more
