These guys installed our HVAC system over 13 years ago. I never got around to leaving a review but YELP prompted me to do so. Overall, the experience was positive. We were given a lot of important information and time to consider our decision as the cost was significant. I think the biggest concern I had about this company is that when we had to install the air conditioner later on when it was warmer, the technician that came out was incredibly rude to my husband when he pointed out a preference he was hoping for either the cement block placement. When we brought up our concerns directly to the sales rep, particularly the way he was treated him as a person of color. This company dismissed his experience and tried to justify it as something else. I would really encourage them to make sure their various staff who interact with customers (who pay thousands of dollars for their product) have a clear understanding of what quality customer service needs to be. read more

I had many estimates for an HVAC ductless air conditioner, and Drew was the only one who was honest about the Xcell energy rebate--there isn't one for this system. We had a very nice experience with Snelling who installed an AC unit, new water heater and ran a gas line for a new range at our new (but old!) house. Quality work and people and the price for the package was extremely reasonable. Jordan, our sales guy, was simply amazing. He walked through our house with us to talk options, was very honest and told us what he thought we did (and didn't) need. Also, he scheduled the AC install just one day before a huge heat wave. ("Let me see if I can pull some strings to get this installed before it's too hot.") During install the electrician found that our furnace's transformer had blown. Jordan arranged for their "furnace whisperer" to come out that same afternoon to take a look, free of charge. It was fixed within 30 minutes. I will say that there was a wiring snafu with the AC unit, causing it to short the fuse a couple weeks after we got it. Jordan had given me his personal cell number, so I texted him with the issue and he sent someone out that same day (literally the 4th of July, a Saturday). The issue was resolved in just a few hours after the text. Would recommend Snelling in a minute. They were friendly, honest, and took care of us the entire way. read more

Ok. I know Yelp is mainly used for food and restaurants, and some of you do do service reviews here, but even so this review is going to seem really odd to some. It's not just going to be about Snelling Co, but I'm also going to play your dad and give you some advice. (It feels odd saying that when I'm directing that statement to you 20-somethings with your first house when I'm not THAT much older than you--even if I do feel it sometimes.) If you have a forced air furnace and/or central air, you'll likely remember to change your furnace filter once a month (or perhaps less often with the fancy filters). But the one thing homeowners neglect to do is have their ducts cleaned every few years. No matter how much your run your heating/cooling system, dust will collect in the ducts. And over time, it will stick and cake on, especially if you do any measure of pan frying. Typical duct cleaners will only blow out your ducts. That's not enough. Depending on the last time your ducts were cleaned, you could have 1/8" or more of crud stuck to the duct walls. The "right" way to have your ducts cleaned is the way Snelling Co. does it. They drill holes into your duct work and use a nifty device that has a wire coming out of a tube to whip around in your ducts to loosen anything caked on. (If you had a view of your duct, it must look like Doctor Octopus invaded your house.) It then gets sucked into their "duct truck" that looks normal when it drives up, but when turned on, the sides come down and a bunch of inflatable tubes come out of it (http://www.snellingcompany.com/shop/ducttruck.htm). It's kinda neat to watch. When done, they plug the holes in your duct work with rubber plugs. Ask them to see the piece the cut out and you'll be amazed at the crud. I've had Snelling Co. do two different houses for me, with about 4 years in between. It was the same guy both times, so I think that's all he does. He's pretty friendly and answers any questions you have with patience. There are only two or three duct cleaners in town that do duct cleaning this way. Make sure the one you hire uses the wire brushes. Or just call Snelling Co. They also do maintenance and repair on heating and cooling systems as well as electrical contracting. read more

I recently hired Snelling Co. to complete a residential boiler and hot water heater replacement project. I am most impressed with the service excellence demonstrated throughout by The Snelling Co. The job was bid professionally and promptly. All questions were answered, and the detailed bid was explained to my full satisfaction. The actual installation was also very smooth. The plumber showed up exactly on time. He explained what he was going to do, then got right to work. The job was completed exactly as bid, with no surprises. The area where the work was done was cleaned and tidied to the point that you would never know the boiler and hot water heater had been removed and replaced. After the job was done I was again contacted to get the information required for the Xcel rebates. Snelling took care of all of the details. These guys are friendly, professional and 100% squared away. Highly recommended. read more

I've been using Snelling since I moved to the Twin Cities in 2005. It's mostly been for minor service on my HVAC. Then a few years ago they put a heater in my garage and had to live through 18-months of inspection hell with the ultra-strict city inspectors (a good thing, I guess... it just caused Snelling to hold my bill for over a year). I was really impressed with NEVER getting weird calls about overdue bills. Then 1970's vintage Heater started getting noisy and unpredictable (irregular heat regulation). In addition, the AC needed expensive coolant every summer and it seemed irresponsible to keep using ozone depleting chemicals. So, I got Snelling to install a new unit. Now I want to know what took me so long ! I got a bid from Snelling when I bought this house in 2006 and the new bid almost 7-years later was $80 LESS. In addition, the efficiency for the units had gone up another 15%. I cannot even hear this unit going on or off... it's THAT quiet. It's also taking so much more dust and smell out of the air, I can't believe I live in the same house. But that's not the best part. I was most impressed with the way sales, installation, and the office worked together. They made sure I knew every step, they let me ask questions during installation, gave me good advice on how to keep things inside and outside the house neat (pipes, electrical, etc., in good spots). And I got a prompt, correct bill in 3-days. Wow! They even discovered $500 on the bid that was not necessary (a code upgrade that found not to be necessary) and made a point of showing me the reduction in the bill. I'm really impressed and I'm not that "easy" most of the time. These people are fantastic. read more

My experience with the Snelling Company was excellent. I needed a plumber and was referred to Snelling Co. by another plumbing outfit who didn't do the type of work that I needed. The woman who answered the phone was super friendly and said that she would send "Bob" over on a Friday afternoon to look at it and give me a quote. I called back at the end of the day on that Friday and made the appointment for Monday- just in time for this upcoming week's hot forecast (it was an A/C problem). The plumber, Bob, called me at 12:30 pm and said he'd be here at 1:30, and he showed up exactly on time. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and had decades of experience. It showed, too... he fixed the problem, took my check and was out the door in less than 35 minutes. He had all the latest power tools and barely made any noise or mess at all. I watched him do the job and I know he did it right. Plumbers are never cheap, but I thought the price was fair for the excellent work and prompt appointment. After years of having a service plan with one of the big Twin Cities companies, we wised up to the practices of the metro's large home service companies and decided to take our business elsewhere. Since 2016, we have had the other company out to address a problem with our A/C, which they identified as a coolant leak. The solution was always a spendy top-up of coolant with no further diagnosis; we did this every single spring. This year, we had Snelling out and they did a MUCH more thorough diagnosis of our system, including going up into the attic to look at the air handler which the other company always refused to do. Randy was informative, courteous, and personable AND immediately found a massive leak at one of the joints. We were able to get the leak addressed and entire system working again for lower than the cost of our previous, ineffective coolant top-ups. Wish we had called Snelling 4 years ago! read more

This is my first review--ever--and I'm compelled to write it because of Snelling Co's stellar service over the past 3 years I have been a customer. I own a rental property in MN and live out of state. The A/C went kaput in 2014, and because the furnace was equally old, Chad at Snelling suggested I replace both to take advantage of discounts. Chad helped me pick the right units and helped me take advantage of any/all warranties and other discounts. He went above and beyond here, and I was very satisfied, despite the unexpected expense. Since installation in 2014, the A/C has stopped working about twice per year. Each time, Snelling Co would come out and refill the refrigerant. The technicians were sure there was a slow leak somewhere, but diagnostics didn't turn up where. They kept refilling it twice per year at a not-insignificant price to me. This year, once again, the A/C was empty of refrigerant. Snelling Co sent out its technicians once again to refill and run a diagnostic, again to no avail. Chad decided to take it a step further and ran a diagnostic on the hose underground and they found and resolved the leak. The reasons I am so satisfied are: (1) throughout the process, Chad has really taken his time with me to explain and educate, (2) despite the problems with the hose, I have always felt like Snelling Co is on my side in trying to resolve the issue for the long term, and (3) now that the problem is resolved, as a goodwill gesture, Chad cut my bill in half and will go after the manufacturer for the rest. He and Snelling Co. are really on the side of their customers and it shows. read more

We had used Snelling since we moved into our house 24 years ago. Never anything major. I was eager to get them to quote on replacing my AC. However, their communication is non-existent. I've phoned, emailed and left messages. They don't call back. I still give them 2-stars because until we needed a new AC system they were great. read more

After being long time loyal customer of Snelling Heating A/C Co.for 30 yrs.---buying Furnace, A/C unit for myself and recommending friends who bought furnace from them. They sold me new Lennox furnace that has given me problems since Day One. To fix, they charge all kinds of fees, their tech who came here said that if they don't tell customers lots of problems regarding their furnace that in reality don't exist, in order to make lots of money in repairs unnecessarily, then the manager of Snelling Co. "Yells" at the techs. So managers encourage techs to over-charge customers for problems the furnace don't have, yes RIP OFF FEES! They just lost few loyal customers therefore. read more

I was really disappointed and frustrated with this company, which came highly regarded. I called for an emergency tech on a Saturday when my AC had went kaput. The guy who answered was rude when I asked what prices were. When I told him I was going to call a few other places to compare pricing, he responded, "Well why don't you call those other places, and have them come out there then." Then he hung up on me. Customer service is a must for me, even when in a bind. I will never call this company again. read more
