We dined inside but it is small so keep this is mind. You can opt to dine outside also. I hadn't been here in 5 years, which is wild. I always love a good hotdog & Gus's never disappoints. I highly recommended checking out their Birmingham restaurant week special!! Street parking is the only option so plan accordingly.

I chose to visit Tony's Hot Dogs in Birmingham. I dined in for lunch to get the full experience…read more Tony's is a small, no frills local restaurant that feels very rooted in Birmingham's history. The atmosphere is casual and nostalgic, with regular customers coming in and staff who clearly know many of them by name. It has that classic American hot dog stand feel that reflects a long standing Southern food culture. I ordered a classic hot dog with chili and mustard, fries, and a drink. The food was simple, affordable, and filling. From a public health perspective, this type of restaurant represents traditional comfort food that is high in sodium and processed meats, which we know can contribute to chronic disease when eaten frequently. However, it also plays an important role in community identity and accessibility. The prices are reasonable, making it an option for people looking for a quick, inexpensive meal. Overall, Tony's reflects how cuisine culture is not just about nutrition, but also about tradition, affordability, and local history. It was a solid experience and a good example of how food connects people in a community.

Just a tiny, iconic hole in the wall that exists for one reason: to serve hot dogs that mean business. When you walk in, you already know you're not here for the décor. You're here because you're craving a hot dog and you want it done right. I ordered the Chicago dog, which showed up looking like it had zero intention of fitting politely inside its bun. This thing was juicy, oversized, and required a concerning amount of napkins. The pickles were crisp, the peppers had the right bite, the mustard was exactly what it should be. Everything hit. The only thing missing was that neon green relish that looks radioactive but somehow makes a Chicago dog official. I kind of missed it. A little. Then I got adventurous. Mistake number one. I ordered the Beef Sandwich, what I can only describe as a sloppy joe with a pickle on top. It sounded bold. It tasted... fine. Not terrible. Not memorable. Just sort of there. It's like I betrayed the hot dog gods and they let me know. My colleague went with the burger, which Tony's is apparently campaigning as "best of" material with the local news crowd. He said it was decent and a great value. High praise in burger language. Now the onion rings? Absolute perfection. Crispy, golden, and cooked exactly the way onion rings should be cooked. No notes. If I had stuck strictly to the hot dogs, this would've been an easy five-star situation. But I strayed. That's on me. Four stars. Next time, I'm staying loyal to the dogs.

This place has been around for a long time and is near UAB West and the Academy Drive exit from the freeway. If you're passing through and looking for a quick lunch, skip the fast food places and come here. The place is clean and tidy, a little bustling around lunchtime, and cooks the food to order so everything comes out fresh and hot. They've got some indoor seating and a few tables outside in case the weather is nice. Hot dogs, burgers, even a bologna sandwich on the menu. I'm recommending the burger because each time I've had it, it's been great. Don't think twice about it. Get the burger. Friendly people, quick service, clean environment, good food, and a local business if I've ever seen one. Definitely give them a shot.

The response came from the Google post I left. Hi Daniel,…read more Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I'm very sorry for what happened and appreciate you bringing it to my attention. After reviewing your comment, I believe the total was incorrect because our employee accidentally rang up the large fries twice. That was our mistake, and I sincerely apologize for the confusion. More importantly, I'm sorry that your concern was not handled with the professionalism and respect you deserved. If a customer has a question about an order, we should always take the time to review it courteously and resolve it. I would appreciate the opportunity to make this right. Please contact me directly at le@debhotdogs.com or (205) 767-9026 so I can personally apologize and make things right for you. Thank you again for your feedback. It helps us coach our team and improve, and I hope you'll give us another chance to provide the experience we're known for. I posted this in response- My response to the owner- Not only does your employee not know mathematics, but the scenario of ringing up the fries twice does not calculate either. Let's go over your reply. $8.10 + $2.79 + $2.79= $13.68 I will be generous with a 10% tax rate. $13.68 X .10 = $13.68 + $1.37 = $15.05 Even your employee showed me the register total, and it equated to $16 & change. I do not know what kind of operation you are running, but I can say with absolute certainty that there are obvious mathematical issues and questionable practices. I decline your apology and your contrived excuse. I would rather seek a business that treats customers honestly. I posted this on Yelp because honest experiences I have can be deleted by Google if the owner feels they are being marred. It is not ok to delete honest comments. If a business treats a customer with dishonesty, it is not ok to protect them and indemnify them from the truth as seen by the offended. This post reflects that the owner acknowledges my complaint but offered some contrived excuse that just did not pass the smell test. If this owner tries to bring legal action against me, this will be evidence to their admission of the incident and Yelp allows honest posts unlike the Google and others that rather protect the business. I am and always will be a user and advocate for Yelp and its integrity.

If you're familiar, it's in the Old Main St., Tavern location in Montevallo. Several of the employees kept saying how busy it was there was two large parties that were there and then some other tables. There was no wait to be sat. Someone came and took our orders, but it took a few more minutes for someone to come back to take our order, but we were not in a rush, so that was no problem. Decided to get brunch i got the French toast, which was very delicious. It comes with bacon. My brunch date decided to get the shrimp and grits. We also got an appetizer of onion rings, goat cheese, and fried green tomatoes. The fried goat cheese was my favorite. It came with a lemon blueberry aïoli sauce. I ended up using the rum sauce. It tasted better to me. The fried green tomatoes were very delicious. I believe they do a bottomless mimosa, but I decided just to get a sprite. Unfortunately, unfortunately, the server was not very attentive with filling up our drinks. I think they were shortstaffed. I'll definitely be back for either their lunch or dinner because that menu looked good as well. There is a lot of cool decor on the walls and I believe they do karaoke on the weekends.
