Given the quality and price point, we were quite disappointed, especially since the leggings were well cared for and never put in the dryer. We brought them into the store on the Upper East Side of NYC to ask whether an exchange might be possible, considering they were not very old. The experience could not have been better. The associate at the register was incredibly kind and immediately acknowledged that this should not have happened. He took the time to check whether the exact style was in stock, and when it wasn't, he offered to order a replacement and have it shipped directly to us. At a time when customer service can often fall short, this experience truly stood out. I was looking for mask inserts and saw Athleta sells them online. I thought I would stop in and see if I could purchase them in the store. After making this my mission today I decided to exhaust all my possibilities before going to Athleta. I tried CVS, Duane Reade, Rite Aid, Target, and Kings Pharmacy and none of these places carries them. Take my advice and go to Athleta. I entered and was immediately welcomed by a friendly associate. By this time I was exhausted so I cut to the chase telling her why I was there. She said they don't have them in store any longer but she would look online. She said if they're available she would order them for me and I would save the shipping charge. I went ahead and ordered two packages of 10 mask filters each package. With tax my total was $8.69. She said I would receive an email and my credit card would be charged. I was told it's two day delivery. I was amazed. After I arrived home I had the email about my order. At this point I'll be happy when they arrive. If anything goes wrong it will not be the fault of this sales associate or this beautiful Athleta location. For example, the jerseys I ordered last season came with completely different colored socks this time. The "Dirpo" shirts are basic $1.50 Jerzees tees sold for $35. The "Botoga" shorts are described as slim fit, yet they're oversized and baggy, past my knees at 6'2". The windbreaker doesn't even match; it's a lime green while the jerseys are dark forest green. The "Rosa" pants I ordered for my daughter are stiff and uncomfortable. Cheaper $15 Target pants would be better. Even the keeper's kit came mismatched with a purple jersey and shorts but dark blue socks. Overall, it feels like they're cutting corners with low-quality products while charging premium prices. After waiting six weeks and starting the season without uniforms, seeing the disappointing quality wasn't a surprise--it was just frustrating.

Tonight l had another great experience at Paragon thanks to the sensitivity and good nature of Mike R in the upstairs shoe and boot department. As a rule, my 88-year old husband doesn't like to buy himself new clothes. But after what feels like weeks in this polar vortex, with him stubbornly trudging and slipping through the snow in old rubber rain boots and a cane, l stopped hinting and put my foot down: we were going to buy him some warm, waterproof boots with cleats. Knowing that he might only put up with one outing, I decided to scout Paragon on my own, first. Mike R. advised me he had only one style of boot that fit what l was looking for and not many sizes left. When he came back with a size in the ballpark, l asked if he could hold it for me. Mike was blunt: he couldn't do any 24-hour holds with the stock so low, but he could hold it for two hours. I thanked him, explaining that if l bought these and presented them to my husband as a done deal he would never even try them on. But we'd be back, within the hour. When we arrived on the floor, Mike picked right up on the dynamic: this was not a customer for a hard sell. And so Mike was the soul of discretion. He kept a low profile, talking quietly and only to me and showed up just often enough to be helpful. He was patient, kind and l got the feeling he was enjoying the challenge of selling without ever even connecting with the guy trying on the boots. And Mike's strategy worked! We made the transition from my husband's original reaction to the only boots in his size ("l hate them!") to walking out with four pairs of socks and that same pair of warm, waterproof boots with cleats.
