We are on vacation from Hawaii. When we told the shoe salesman at the Tampa REI that we were…read moreheading for the Atlantic coast, he told us we had to stop and eat at TooJays! So when we happened upon the TooJays in Vero Beach, we stopped in for lunch. So glad we did.
When we asked our waitress Anna what was good here, she highlighted the Corned beef sandwich, the pastrami sandwich, as well as the Cobb Salad. I asked her how the Turkey sandwich was, and she said it was fine, but you can get it anywhere. We are known for our corned beef and pastrami. I ordered the grilled Pastrami sandwich, called the Rachel. John ordered the Reuben, and Jillian ordered the Cobb Salad and a Matzo ball soup. I'm so glad Anna had the gumption to set me on the right path. We all enjoyed our food, and Anna kept checking up on us.
In the middle of our meal, a woman not dressed like a waitress stopped by and asked how everything was, and did we need anything? I told her everything was great, and we'd like some glasses of water. She said she'd be right back. Based on how she was dressed, I thought she might be the manager. When she came back with our waters, I asked her if she was. She said was the general manager. I told her I thought she'd send someone else back with our waters, and she said oh no, I do everything- serve, clear, wash dishes. I asked her where the name TooJays came from and she told us, and gave a little history of the chain. Jillian told her how we came to hear about TooJays, and the general manager was so pleased by the story. As we finished our conversation, the general manager told us she hoped we would order a dessert, because it would be on her. So John, Jillian, and I enjoyed a slice of cheesecake with strawberries, courtesy of the general manager. It was a great way to finish a great meal. To the general manager, whose name I didn't get, and to our waitress Anna, whose name I did get, thank you for a fun and memorable experience at TooJays.
