Mervis' Cafe feeds a growing population of Latin cuisine lovers. They've been in the downtown Ft Pierce area for a number of years and there are loyal return customers. My recent visit was not bad. Just not outstanding. I beat the lunch crowd to the counter service and ordered the roast pork platter ($14.72). It came with a large fountain drink/tea and was served with yellow rice, plantains and a small cup of black beans. The pork and onions were good. Moist and a good helping. The yellow rice was nothing special. But it wasn't dry. Plantains were, again, ok. And the black beans had nice seasoning. All served on a Dixie paper plate with plastic utensils. Quick and efficient. There is plenty of seating, all in an open dining area. No privacy. And it's okay if you bring your mail or a package to be shipped. As usual, the first greeting tells you a lot. Not happy to see me at 7:50. This is a fast casual place and must be slammed at lunch but breakfast seems like an afterthought. Ordered the 3-egg breakfast burrito. Sorry, I've prepared 3-egg breakfasts for myself nearly everyday for 15 years on the Slow Carb Diet and this was probably 2 small eggs. 2 pieces of green pepper. I picked up my order at the counter. Wrapped in paper, on a paper plate with plastic fork and paper napkin. With the foam cup and plastic lid, the disposable trash pile was almost as big as the burrito. I asked for a metal fork. Nope. Go to the Sunrise Cafe. Same prices for MUCH better friendly service and food. I went yesterday and will go there tomorrow as well. I expect this place has great Cuban sandwiches. A fast-food restaurant. read more

Low Quality, Apathetic and Rude....my 4 year old could make a better sandwich. Horrible. I was so confused by what they served me (a $9 Turkey Club) with burnt bacon and one single slice of turkey so hidden I couldn't see it. The presentation was so strange it turned me off entirely and they couldn't have cared amy less. I threw it away and took my $10 can of coke with me (because that's how much I paid for it since the sandwich was such a turn-off I couldn't even eat it. And I tipped them, like an idiot. Been coming here since I was a kid. Super easy to order and all the staff is nice even when they're super busy. One of the best cuban sandwich places around. Cafe con leche is delicious, you can get it iced, and they have milk substitutes! Tables are always clean and I always enjoy eating there. read more

Quick stop here for Café con leche & guava Pastelitos to go post surf session. The coffee was excellent! The Pastelitos were warm and had the perfect flaky consistency. There was ample seating. Went for lunch with friends. They both enjoyed their Cuban sandwiches. They looked great, but not for one who does not eat pork. I loved it that they had breakfast (except pancakes) all day. As a recent transplant from the Miami - Fort Lauderdale area, I came across Mervis' Cafe quite by accident. Seek out the United States Post Office and you will find this authentic Cuban cafe tucked inside. They share the same building. One Media Noche and a grande Cafe con' Leche for me. Eat in, rather than take out. I had almost an hour to burn before picking up my kids from school. Why not spend it at Mervis'? Great sandwich with all the right ingredients and pressed just right, pickle on the side. As for the Cafe' con Leche, the 16 ounce cup contains about 4 ounces of straight espresso. Not too sweet and a decent cup of java. Fast and polite service. They have plenty of seating and parking, along with an extensive menu that includes breakfast. Recent renovations have been done and everything seems new. Mervis' Cafe also has free Wi-Fi. I would definitely visit again for that "Cuban" experience. No issues whatsoever. William E. Doesn't look like much when you walk in, as the building is kind of old and there's a post office inside, but don't let that fool you. I've been coming here for an iced cafe con leche for months and it is honestly the best in town. It's strong how I like it and at a good price. I'm pretty sure I wait less than a minute for it every time. I recently (finally) ordered some food and I was not disappointed at all. I got the palomilla steak with rice and beans and substituted the maduros for tostones for an extra $0.89. It was delicious and fresh. The way they marinate the onions and steak is very savory and the rice and beans also tasted very flavorful. The tostones were fresh and hot. Wonderful Cuban lunch spot. I ordered the Roasted Pork Chunks with black beans, yellow rice, and sweet plantain for $8.95 (lunch special price). The pork had a great sear, almost as crispy as skin, but not quite. The pork inside was tender. Served with the rice and beans, and grilled onion and lime wedge, it was what Cuban food should be about! The plantain had a nice black char, very sweet, and perfect!!!
