There are so many ways to visit Brew Fitness - in person, online for live zoom classes and on-demand classes. I've added a picture of my favorite area - the personal training station. I love the group classes, but the personal training offered here is wonderful. The trainers are knowledgeable, nice and fun! Membership: I do the unlimited membership because it gives me access to all the classes, but you can buy packs of classes, a virtual membership, on-and demand access. All very well priced! You can even drop in for single classes! Extra bits: Also worth mentioning are the dogs you might see, the beer you may drink and the coffee that's always available. It's also always clean - it's two levels of fitness fun. Just a unique experience at a gym that's truly member focused. The members are some of the best and nicest people you'll meet and I'll say it again - you'll get a great workout too! Get down here!

I used a complimentary day pass to workout out the downtown WAC. I had a YMCA membership but have…read morealways been curious about the WAC and how if might differ/be better, etc. My initial impression was, I'm in a gym on a college campus. It was busy when I went (5:30pm on a Monday) which made getting a leg or arm circuit done on the weight machines a bit tricky. Now, if you wanted to use an elliptical or other cardio equipment those machines were mostly open. Some things I absolutely loved about this WAC location: The indoor track inside (9 laps = one mile). In the winter, it's like you're walking in a snow globe. There are huge floor to ceiling windows that offer great city views. The staff! Very warm, helpful, patient and kind. The steam room and sauna in the locker rooms. Keys to lockers are provided as well as towels and there's shaving cream in the locker room showers. Free parking so long as you download the parking app used here and scan the QR code before leaving the gym (parking is free for up to 3 hours). Olympic size/caliber weight room on the second floor (this gym is only two floors and does not have a gym). After my one day workout sesh, will I be back? If I lived downtown on the east side of the city then yes I would hop on the WAC train and member up. But being a 15 minute drive from downtown, and not always in the mood to workout after work I don't think I will be calling this gym "mine" any time soon. Regardless, it was a lot of fun to try this location out and to see the nice amenities the WAC has to offer downtown.

This is the main WAC I go to...I've gone over the years quite a few times here, but over summer I…read morestarted going in the morning and have been really glad its become part of my routine. While one of the smaller WACs, it has lovely views of the city from its location on the 6th floor of the 411 building. Theres an indoor track that runs along the outside of the gym, and a second floor (the 5th) has more weight training areas and another group exercise studio. They do a lot of classes if you're into that sort of thing, and while the equipment isn't super fancy it gets the job done and there isn't usually too long of a weight fot anything. The great thing about the WAC is I consider it a "full service" type of club with free lockers, towels, coffee, very nice showers and other services (for a fee ) like PT and massage. The WAC is more expensive than a planet fitness but you definitely get what you pay for here No pool sadly at this site but there is a steam room (and maybe a sauna?) In the locker room. Nice friendly environment to work out in - 5 stars!

I knew I needed a gym that could provide community and make working out something I looked forward to, especially after historically having structure in my workouts due to sports. The squad of trainers, the variety, the pop-ups - there's truly something for everyone and every version of how I'm feeling. Total supportive zone with women from every walk of life - unbeatable and so empowering. Shape Up Shoppe made it so easy to get into a routine and actually be excited about working out... plus it's affordable and I already see noticeable results after hardly a month. 100x over recommend. Come hang.

I have tried many different gyms and this one feels like a community. The knowledge that Julie (owner) and the other trainers have about fitness, nutrition, etc is remarkable and allows them to give personalized feedback depending on your fitness goal! You can tell that the owner and staff truly care about your fitness goals. Unlike other gyms, if you miss a class, they encourage you to make it up and try a different class rather than losing the money. Cardio Complete - these classes are a great full body workout with routines that each target different muscle groups. Incorporating bodyweight exercises, dumbbells, jump ropes and more. As someone who grew up dancing, these classes are especially fun for me as I enjoy the aerobics style routines. I saw results in my strength, cardio and muscle tone very shortly after joining these classes. Boxing - I am not a consistent member of the boxing classes, but have done a few drop-in classes and got a great workout! If you are looking for a fast paced, fun and tiring workout I would definitely recommend trying a boxing class. During the class you will switch between heavy hanging bags, speed bags, headache bags as well as individual target mitts with a trainer. Pilates Slide - this is a newer class offered and am hoping that they continue it. I have done pilates at other studios prior and nothing compares to this class. It is a low impact workout but is sure to leave you sweating and feeling toned! If you do not feel like doing a class, they also have a gym on the lower level with cardio equipment, free weights, and machines. I highly recommend giving the Shape Up Shoppe a try and guarantee that you will fall in love with it like I did!

Those of us from Chicago are familiar with the Polish war hero, and this beautiful park is an appropriate tribute in a town that owes much to our Polish immigrants. It's a big park, and it's pretty well maintained though the County has trouble staffing lifeguards for the pool so it's often closed. There are no Polish restaurants around here but nearby is an Eastern European grocery store if you want to pack a picnic or there are many good Mexican restaurants near by to get take out for al fresco dining.

General Thaddeus Kosciuszko was born in Poland on the lower end of the upper class which placed him…read morein military training. He was trained in military engineering but he was also a passionate man who loved liberty. When the American Revolutionary War broke out, the 30 year old Kosciuszko came to the colonies to help out. He spent six years as part of the Continental Army, working as an engineer to fortify American facilities and also fought on the line. He befriended Thomas Jefferson. At the end of the Revolutionary War, the grateful Americans gave him a plot of land in Ohio and named him a General. He returned to Poland but left word that upon his death, his American holdings should be sold and the proceeds used to free and educate slaves. (That was a pretty radical concept in the 18th Century!) As Poland was an inviting target for invading armies, Kosciuszko returned to the Polish army and fought to repulse the invading Russians in 1792. The Polish king surrendered, Kosciuszko was wounded and captured. He was exiled in 1796 and was never able to return to his homeland. A hero in both America and Poland, Thaddeus Kosciuszko was a central figure in Polish communities all over the world. A statue of him can be found in any city with a large Polish community, and Milwaukee was no exception. A collection was made to raise funds to commission Gaetano Trentanove to create a statue of the Polish hero. Gaetano Trentanove was born in Florence, Italy on February 21, 1858. By way of Chicago's 1893 Columbian Exposition, Trentanove wound up in Milwaukee where he had a studio and taught at the Layton School of Art. Trentanove statues can be found around the world but also in Milwaukee's Wahl Park, Oshkosh and Lancaster, Wisconsin. In 1903, Trentanove's statue of Kosciuszko was cast in Florence and shipped to Milwaukee in two pieces - the horse and Kosciuszko, to be reunited in Lincoln Avenue Park, in the center of the Polish community of Milwaukee's south side. (The park was renamed in honor of General Kosciuszko about the same time the monument was placed here.) The years have passed, the community has changed from Polish to Hispanic, but Kosciuszko remains. The statue was showing its age. Patina hid many details, damage was causing deterioration, his spurs were broken off and his scabbard was missing. The monument was in need of some serious restoration help. A group was formed to that end, called the "Restore the Kosciuszko Monument." The group documented the statue and collected the funds needed to restore the statue. The monument underwent a thorough restoration in 2013. The bronze statue was removed and taken to a specialist in Ohio, where the patina was removed, repairs were made and missing parts were recreated. The missing scabbard was located. Meanwhile, the pedestal was cleaned and polished, in anticipation of the return of General Kosciuszko. See: http://www.rkmmilwaukee.org/ for the story of the restoration. Incidentally, most people pronounce his name as "kozz-ee-ESS-ko" but my Polish friends taught me long ago to call him "ka-ZHOOSH-ko" which I still endeavor to do.
