I'd like to post a response to California Girl. I was the lady who assisted you. First of all,…read morelet me say I am so sorry that the dogs got into a fight as you were checking out. I had already left by that time, to pick up my son, and I only heard about this later. As I recall, we first went to the puppy room because you wanted a younger dog - but your son was absolutely overwhelmed by the noise and energy level of these younger dogs. In fact, I believe at that point, you and your family starting heading for the door. There happened to be another volunteer walking an older dog in the hallway. Knowing that an older dog would likely be much calmer and quieter than a younger one, I thought your son might connect with this one, so we suggested (we did not insist) going into into a quiet bonding room to see. The bonding rooms are small, so only your son and husband went inside. I don't know where you went at this time but I'm sorry you got separated from your family - it's a big place and can be confusing. Your son did indeed bond with the older, calmer dog, as you said, and we were so happy to see this. I was trying to be very up front with you about the fact that he was 8 years old, and larger dogs typically don't live past 14-16 years old. Since your son looked to be about 12, I was trying to be encouraging by saying the 8 year old dog still had many good years ahead of him, and that your son would get to spend his teenage years growing up with this dog because the dog would probably live at least until your son went off to college. I'm sorry if that came across the wrong way. As I said, we all regret what happened during the check out process. The staff and volunteers discussed this episode and we have reminded volunteers to be extra careful about bringing dogs into contact with other dogs. While some dogs get along with 90% of other dogs, there is always a chance that they will not like the dog who happens to be walking past them at the moment. Again, I am sorry this happened, and I do hope that your son will find a calm, loving dog who can be his "furever friend".

So to preface, I did adopt a dog however, this is one of the most inefficiently run animal shelters…read moreI have been to. and yes, all of my dogs over the last 50 years have come from one shelter or another. So lets go down the list. total time 5 hours to adopt...repeat that again 5 hours. The app is about useless. You fill out the paper work online (no wifi in building which makes this worse) and then they tell you when your time to adopt is ready. so fill it out we get a text 40 minutes later, saying we are 3rd in line. another hour text saying we are next. now because the person at the door was not trained properly, he screwed up the paperwork and put our alert number under someone's name. took another 50 minutes to be seen. Took them another 40 minutes because the poorly trained guy could not operate a printer. We get the dog, she has kennel cough so she could not be fixed at the time of adoption. it happens. The improperly trained employee/volunteer gives us a paper for 7 to 8 drop off on 12SEPT26 for her to be fixed. fine. We leave, come today. being on old military vet, I am there before the allotted time (if you are 15 minutes early, you are later, if you are 30 minutes early you are on time). We call the number exactly at 7am, no answer. No answer at the door when we knock, 715 no answer, 745 we finally get someone and they have no spays for that day. They give us another place, with the wrong address, and we make it at 0755 with a line out the door. We missed the cutoff. So here is a solution: 1. Proper training. Training makes the difference here. If your volunteers and or staff are trained properly, this mess would have been eliminated. When you dont the Managers poor work ethic and organizational skills reflect on the employees, not the other way are around. Managing people for thirty 5 years has taught me to spot the difference between and idiot and a possible good employee had the manager sat down with him and showed him the job. 2. Remove the manager or person in charge and replace with some with an IQ higher than room temperature broccoli. I have fired people better than this. 3. Get someone to fix the damn app/sign in/next in line service system. post online asking for a volunteer to do the APP refresh. if they forgo the line and 25.00 adoption fee I'm pretty sure someone would bit. Plus you get rid of a dog. 4. install a wifi system if you want people to use the online sign up. Costly? not really even a cheap wireless access point (25 at walmart) with a guest login that only takes you to the webpage will work. How do I know? I do it for a living.

I had my first foster dog for a few months and she recently got adopted to a wonderful family. I can't tell you how cool it was to help a dog who literally was on death row at a local shelter to get healthy again and then to find a new home. AARF made it a really easy and rewarding experience to volunteer and they help wonderful animals find great homes. There are other rescue groups in Atlanta and they are all doing amazing work. I'm certainly not saying AARF is any better than any other rescue group because I haven't volunteered with any others but I am saying that the people at AARF rock and I really love working with them.

Fostering an animal while it finds a home is one of the best things a person can do. Animals in tiny cages where they don't get room to run and play can get issues that can take years of training and care to treat. But, give a homeless animal a temporary home while you find a permanent one and it can learn from your other pets or just get used to what it is like to have a nice home. I am still training my dog on some basic lessons, but once she's ready to teach others, I plan to foster. Check their web site if you want to foster or need a pet yourself!

Just a few months ago I reached out to MM because I was at the end of my patience with the puppy I was given April 2026. He was unruly, aggressive and biting people. With me he was great but I couldn't trust him outside or with others. He would have fits and start barking trying to bite people, other dogs and even children. Today after the classes at Mostly Mutts with Christina and Gabe he is a different dog. He's not perfect but he is much improved. He's manageable. He no longer barks uncontrollably or lunges at other dogs, children and people. I highly recommend Mostly Mutts they are wonderful. They have taught me how to handle my dog and give him what he needs to be a good pet. Thank you Mostly Mutts you get 5 stars from me.

They do an interview and check references, and they're very concerned with making sure the animal goes to a good home. I am incredibly impressed with the whole operation, particularly Jonnie, who was a great help in speeding our application along.

After a quick search on Google we found Our Pal's and decided to bring the lost dog here to see if we can find his owner. We talked to Gigi the owner who was so nice and helpful. She gave us the name of a vet down the street (Shallowford Animal Hospital) who could check to see if he is chipped.
