This is the place. Not just a place. This is *the* place for delicious, old fashioned burgers. Nothing on the menu will disappoint, from the fish n chips to their specials. The workers take their jobs seriously and are seriously good at it. The bags are folded neatly with your food perfectly arranged. Burgers on top of the fries to keep them warm and to keep you from eating through them on the drive home if you can resist the urge. Great spot for last minute snacks that are quick ready made food like hot dogs, chili or nachos. Service is quick and you can't beat the location especially in the parking lot across from Alan York Park. I always end up getting a ice cream and a drink to cool off. read more

As far as a restaurant goes, not good. A place like The Snack Shack has its place in the world but not as a destination eating hot spot. Maybe as something you could enjoy at a children's baseball game which is lucky since it's a concession stand at a children's baseball park. The fries were cold and unseasoned. Definitely began the day in a frozen bag. The burgers were tiny frozen hucks which were cooked beyond belief. The buns weren't toasted. Filling was forgettable. There are no restaurants in the area so I can see why places like this exist. read more

As you can see this big shack burger is not as awesome as the last time. Light on the sauce and no tomato! Still tasty beef. Hopefully it'll be better next time *edit! The big shack burger doesn't come with tomatoes! My bad! I must have asked for it last time. After being told it didn't come on this type of burger I asked if I could pay for some (I'm seriously crazy about tomatoes). He said I didn't have to pay! He went back inside to put on gloves, came out with two slices, and put it on my burger outside. Great COVID-19 precautions. Also this was about 5 min after closing at this point. I have been so very impressed with this hidden gem every single time I've remembered it exists. Things they've done notably well: * Astoundingly prompt, attentive, engaging. The moment you arrive, someone is there to greet you, explain the specials, and accurately handle your request. * Prepare and provide your order correctly (gasp!) and promptly. * Use really yummy, quality ingredients on equipment with is obviously kept clean and well maintained. * Attract and retain awesome people on staff. The manager (sorry my stroke-brain forgot your name!) has made an impression of professionalism and general positivity every time I've visited, and that has great worth these days. Detractions/opportunities for improvement in my opinion: * The location is remote (off Key Peninsula Hey) for anyone not local. * The signage deserves to be more eye-catching, to remind more folks it's there. * With what they do with the menu mix they have ... I feel bad they've taken the name "Snack Shack", as it suggests it's someplace to pick up an off-tasting soda in a Styrofoam cup, some limp-yet-internally-frozen fries, and a wholly regrettable-if-memorable burgeresque thing. Which it is not. They take obvious pride in serving good food, in a polite, engaging, and expeditious manner. It's rare I'm so effusively positive about a place. (I'm hardly immune to the shameful tendency to be vocal when a service or product received is poor, and not as often when it's good.) I'm happy to say this place and these folks are completely deserving. Two weeks ago, my wife and I decided to stop by the Snack Shack at Volunteer Park near Key Center to check it out and get a couple of burgers to go. We were in a hurry so I called in our order. We ordered the bacon cheese burgers. We arrived at the SS within 15 minutes. We were surprised but happy to see five other customer's cars in the parking lot. The SS is housed in an old, but well maintained, clubhouse building. Upon entering the establishment, I saw a man and a woman working behind the counter in the cleanest fast food kitchen I've ever seen. It was spotless! Other customers were patiently waiting for their orders at tables and the male cook was just putting burgers on the grill. Seeing this, I figured I'd have to wait for our order. But to my surprise, the lady working behind the counter promptly and graciously handed me our order. Our order, including a coke, was around and tip was less than we'd pay at a chain fast food. By the way, the burgers were simple, not messy, and delicious and both meats were cooked to perfection. Decent food in clean places is hard to find out here. The snack shack is your basic burger joint in a clean setting with nice folks behind the counter. My burger was perfectly done and came with a yummy sauce and the basic fixings. The fries were great, just the right amount of salt. And two people ate for under $20.
