DO NOT GO HERE. I had been established at this dentist for a few years and other than extremely long wait times I had no complaints. The staff wasn't overly friendly but they were just fine. Then, at 6 month cleaning I get told I have stage 3b periodontal disease and I will need dentures in the next year if I don't buy this $1200 deep cleaning. The image on the wall of a person with this stage of gum disease has missing teeth, visible decay etc. This is shocking and embarrassing news considering I am 29 with all of my teeth, no cavities, and no bleeding gums. I told them wow this is shocking considering I floss daily, brush 2x daily with an electric toothbrush, water pick, mouthwash, tongue scrape, etc. The hygienist laughed and said "wow you do more than I do". So I asked for further recommendation because the $1200 cleaning every THREE MONTHS for the rest of my life wasn't going to work out for me for obvious reasons. She said I was pretty much screwed and that was the only option. I continued to ask questions about how this could have happened and what I could do at home to help and they just told me sometimes people just get gum disease. They even made me pay for "genetic testing" that they never once followed up with me for until I called the office but I HAD to have it done? Lo and behold I do the cleaning (fear mongering me into getting it done) and it takes about 20 minutes (they said up to an hour for bad cases which is apparently me considering I was told I needed dentures immediately). I go to follow up and they say I need another one??? Absolutely not, my gums dont even bleed. The nail in the coffin for me was when I went for the very last time for a routine cleaning as I declined the buy ups they wanted to add after the fear mongering. I sat in the waiting room for 50 minutes. 50 past my appointment time! Mind you when I left they closed 5 minutes later? So was I just going to be asked to leave anyways because they were closed and hadn't even started? During that time no one else was in the waiting room and no one else came and went so they couldn't have been that busy. No one once checked on me and apologized or updated me on the delay. I finally went up to the front desk and told them I would be leaving considering I had been sitting here almost an hour and they just stared at me blankly. They never called to reschedule my appointment or apologize. It's like I was never there and it never even happened. What a waste of my time. I have waited 6 months to write this review because I waited and bought different dental insurance and just established at another place. Here they were so kind, went through every single xray, picture, and exam of my teeth in detail and answered all of my questions. Shocking because here they say I have no evidence of gum disease AT ALL! And I would only require basic cleanings every 6 months and my "teeth would be in it for the long haul and I should not need dentures" He said my teeth and gums look really good! I became tearful at this new dentist because of how stressed I was by what the other place told me and they were appalled that I ever even got the deep $1200 cleaning because he saw no evidence of why I would need it let alone I was told I had advanced perio disease. In the end, this place has horrible time management and will continuously try and uncharge you for something every time and scare you into thinking if you don't pay them immediately there will be severe life altering consequences. Go ahead and google the umbrella company, Smile Generation, and you will understand why this place has such bad reviews. read more

Just wanted say I came to this location and the dentist that claims she's empathetic on the main website is an idiot. She wouldn't even give me an antibiotic to help with my teeth. Plus the snide comments made by the billing person was unprofessional. Bet you want to go smoke a cigarette now and after them telling me all of bottom teeth needed to be removed Don't go here it's a scam and they just want money!!! read more

My insurance changed, and this office looked like a good option. They are money grabbers! On my first visit I was there for 2 hours. I had a ton of x rays, then the dentist checked my teeth and went over my treatment plan. She recommended over $3,000 of work, which included a crown and root canal for a tooth that wasn't even bothering me. Then I had a pitiful excuse of a cleaning. I never went back, and I changed my insurance this year. I am now back to my denitst that I had gone to the previous 5 years. Interestingly enough, at my last visit last week not one word was mentioned about the tooth that this place quoted all that money to fix. I'm glad I went with my gut and walked. read more

Great dentists and hygienists but the front desk is not knowledgeable at all. I've had the same insurance and no changes for at least 2 years and every time I come in (3 months between each visit for my maintenance. )They say I owe $$. 2+ hours for a new patient visit and was told I needed two root canals which was false.

And now I see why they have 2 1/2 stars.... While my first experience with Smyrna Modern Dentistry two years ago was good, it went down hill from there. I have several Tori in my mouth and X-rays are painful for me. I told them I don't want to have X-rays every 6 months, but rather get them every year instead. Last time I did this, several people on their staff gave me lectures as to the importance and wanted to know why I refused to do it. Today, when I told them that I was not getting X-rays again (I had them done 6 months prior), I was told the dentist would not see me without them. Then I was "educated" about the importance and that they were needed to find cavities. When I told her I haven't had cavities in 40 years, she argued that cavities were the reason my front tooth was crowned. I was livid and told her, no, that was an injury from jumping off a swing when I was 8 years old and a year ago, Smyrna Modern Dentistry replaced it due to discoloring. (I also had an unnecessary root canal when my root was completely filled in a long time ago. It was absolutely a CYA procedure.) It was the last straw after having argued with them in the past about over billing for my son's appointment and for sending him to an oral surgeon for calcium deposits. (The oral surgeon sent us home, telling us it was normal). When I asked for my records today, I was given a paper copy of my X-rays and nothing else. I've been a patient of this office for years. I have had several issues but everyone (dentist and front desk Carlee specifically) worked with me to make sure everything was resolved correctly. Avoid this place! Do yourself a favor and go to an honest dentist. I came here for a emergency. 2 molars have rotted at the gum line and keep me awake at night. The pain is excruciating. When I came in they discovered several problems other than the emergency that brought me in. That can be expected, as I've neglected my teeth for too long. I needed cavities repaired and a deep root cleaning. I'm scared to death of the dentist. Before setting up the appointment, I informed them of my fear and that I would only proceed if I was heavily sedated. They told me that keeping the patient comfortable was a priority and that I was in the right place. They informed me that my front teeth could use fillings or cosmetic veneers or crowns also. I told them I'd like to set up a plan and get it all done before I lost my nerve. Remember that these molars are the emergency that brought me in. They couldn't work on me that day and asked if the day after tomorrow was too far away, as that was the soonest they could get me in. This is an emergency and 2 Days wasn't what I wanted to hear but I agreed because I was here, in the chair, and on my way to getting something fixed that had been put off too long already. The next day i requested time off work to do this the following day. As soon as a got off work I got a call. "We don't believe we can give you the proper care tomorrow, can we reschedule for 2 weeks away?" Needless to say I was not happy. I'd been hurting for 3 months already! Set the appointment. I've got to see someone about these teeth! So I show up @ 11 am on the day of my appointment. They immediately start working on the 4 front teeth that they want to put veneers on. In case you don't know, veneers are roughly $1000 each. They also did a deep root scaling today. The row of rotting molars were not touched! My entire treatment plan was $5050, with $4000 of it being the cosmetic veneers! The emergency that I came in for 2 weeks ago didn't even get touched on my 1st or 2nd appointment. They went straight after the $4000 part of the job, which wasn't even necessary! My molars are still killing me and they want me back tomorrow to finish the veneers (same day veneers according to their advertising) and then they'll take a look at my molars. I am FURIOUS! I arrived at 11am today and I'm writing this review from my exam room at 7:45 pm... maybe I'll get to go home today I did not receive anything other than a numbing agent for the pain at any point during my visit. My fear of the dentist is so severe that I don't want a needle stuck in my gums. That's part of the fear. They are not sending me home with anything to help out either. I'm going to have them finish what they started but they'll never see me, my family, my friends again. I'm not one to usually leave reviews but I wish I had read some reviews before my husband and I chose to use this place. I have been billed twice for something we paid in full and when I tried to call about it they hung up on me. When I proceeded to get ahold of somebody the lady put me on hold and never picked back up. They are also way over priced and try to convince you to get more than what is necessary so they can make more money, which I understand is part of being a business, but doing this to someone who hasn't been to the dentist in awhile and isn't sure what they should or shouldn't get, doesn't seem like an honorable business move to me. read more

I was 10 minutes late and I drove over 40 mins to get to my appointment. As soon as I stepped in the rude lady at the front desk denied my appointment and tells me I can't come in. She has to reschedule me. Plus my teeth are messed up. I went for a X-ray and I was told I had a cavity on my front tooth and needed to get it removed !! I was like no way! I have nice teeth, plus I floss.. so how? Remind you you will be sitting for 2 hours to get seen. They had to add a tooth , which the color was off from my natural..it didn't match.. plus the implant was misbehaving. It started to shift.. my teeth was better before and plus my tooth is funky. Upon writing this review, it's the second visit I've had to the dentist. The first was a referral for my oldest child's tooth extraction, and the second for general cleaning with my other kids. To be honest, miscommunication happened at both visits, but the reason I'm writing this review is because they made every effort to fix the issue both times. They deserve a positive review! I would highly recommend avoiding this place at all costs. They have done nothing but cause me physical pain in my mouth and emotional stress. From the time you get there, it's an upsell for gingivitis ($1000) and a $100 toothbrush! When I replied, "I don't have that kind of money" they replied with, "we have payment plans." It has nothing to do with patient care, and from what I was told, they work on commission. Be careful with these types of places, they only want your money! They have no desire to make sure you are ok, even when you try to jump out of the chair because the hard debris falling in your mouth (freaking you out) is nothing of their concern. Avoid this place! This was the worst experience I have had at a dental clinic. I came in as a new patient, needed an exam and a regular cleaning. I was in the clinic for over 2 hours - had the most painful X-rays taken, waited for care for over 1.5 hrs., and didn't even receive a cleaning. Just a polish and some fluoride. I feel ripped off and frustrated that the service and care at this dental clinic were so terrible. Now I have to wait another 6 months for my insurance to pay for an ACTUAL cleaning. Do yourself a favor and do not go here. Went in with tooth pain I knew was associated with my wisdom teeth. They told me I had an infection in my gum, but I had to ask for antibiotics. They called me to schedule my wisdom teeth removal and I was told it would be under general anesthesia. I asked who does the anesthesia and was told the oral surgeon. General anesthesia for wisdom teeth removal is extremely rare and is to be done by an anesthesiologist or CRNA, not an oral surgeon. Either the front desk staff is uneducated or the care their providing is unsafe and illegal. I tried to get clarity on the anesthesia and never received a call back. I then found another oral surgeon, and needed my x-rays sent to them. I spent 30+ minutes on hold before I was finally able to speak to someone. They told me they were e-mailing the x-rays right then. The new oral surgeon never received the x-rays, so I had to have new x-rays with the new oral surgeon. The price quoted to me from the new oral surgeon was exactly half the price of what Smyrna Modern Dentistry quoted me. read more

I really like this place and would love to give this a 5 stars but twice I been here my dentist or dental hygienist gets pulled away while working on in my mouth. The price is a little expensive but the quick recovery is worth it to me. All the staffs here are wonderful and sweet. read more

They would not give me the simple cleaning that my insurance covered, telling me that I needed extensive work done first - to the tune of $1300. I called my insurance who in turn called Smyrna Modern Dentristry and found that they had overcharged every single item. I got a second opinion and no surprise - they cleaned my teeth and said they looked great. My biggest regret is having brought my four children here. My girls have braces and they cleaned/scraped their teeth so hard that their gums were swollen for weeks. Save yourself the hassle and report them - I did. read more
