This place is absolutely TERRIBLE. We come in through the drive way with NO ONE here the two female teen workers are sitting in front of the store vaping and we went to take our orders and no ONE WAS IN THE STORE AND SHE TOOK OUR ORDERS WHILE SHE WAS MID VAPE OUTSIDE. We were waiting in the drive through for TEN MINUTES waiting for these two girls to make us 2 smoothies. They were so rude and were laughing at us while we were waiting in the drive through. Thank you Smoothie King for opening a Smoothie shop I can go to and love!! The place just opened today and I'm so excited for it. The menu is quite extensive but they were helpful with everything about it. They let me customize it since I'm pregnant and did not want to have certain proteins/powders added. They also have a drive-thru!! The Service: they were friendly and knowledgeable! Definitely made it easier to order. The Drinks: Acai Adventure 5/5 - I omitted the protein and added bananas and strawberries to mimic the available bowls I used to get while living in Hawaii. End result? Deliciousness! Banana Berry Treat 5/5 - our baby loved it! We just omitted the protein for him. Peanut Power Plus Chocolate 5/5 - hubby added the diet down and he said it was tasty for sure! First time at a Smoothie King and I was...unimpressed. I live for strawberry + banana + protein smoothies. Nutrisport is my jam. So I was pretty stoked to visit Smoothie King. I downloaded the app and had a $2 coupon ready to go. First "meh" thing was the service. No friendly welcome by the guy at the register. Didn't ask if he could help us as we squinted up at the menu. Finally figured out our orders and my friend ordered first. Guy had to get help using her app coupon because he was new. Then I ordered - assumed he knew how to use the coupon at this point...but I ended up paying full price. But my coupon is gone from my app. He scanned my app and I didn't even get my points from my order. So I lost my coupon, paid full price, and didn't get my points. Holy disappointment. My smoothie was fine - didn't compare to nutrisport but it was fine. My friend's was more like a snow cone than a smoothie. Zero of the 3 employees we came in contact with had any personality or friendly bones in their body. If you are looking for an easy, relatively healthy lunch, smoothie king is a great option. I have had a couple different blends: vegan mango kale, carrot kale dream. My favorite is the first listed, but they do a good smoothie at a good price. I decided to download their app to get $2 off my first smoothie, and if you go on Mondays, they only charge $5 for a 32 oz. I have no idea who can down 32 oz (20 oz is good enough for my lunch), but they do take care of customers. The inside is clean, modern, and minimalist. If I could give this location zero stars I would! We frequent Smoothie Kings all over. We were in town for the weekend and stopped at this location at around 2pm on a Friday. There were no customers in the store. Our shoes stuck to the floor everywhere we walked. Ordered our regular, Peanut Power Plus and even tipped 20%. The girl making our smoothies handed us our order and my husband and I took one sip and knew it wasn't made correctly, it was missing the peanut butter!!! When we went back and asked for it to be made correctly, the girl that took our order, grabbed the drinks out of our hands and started throwing things around to let us know she was pissed. Then the girl that made our drink wrong the first time was pointing at us, rolling her eyes and laughing. When the drinks were ready, they put them in an area we couldn't reach them....we stood there for at least 5 minutes until my husband asked if those were our smoothies. NO ONE ANSWERED US!!! About two months ago my friend showed me this place and we went there after we did some shopping. Drinks: all three times that I have been here I have gotten the banana boat smoothie and it is so delicious. And you can really taste the flavors in the smoothie. I also tried out a lot of their protein powders that they have. I don't really use protein powders but when I go there it's fun to pick out new ones all the time. Service: The only reason I didn't give this five stars was because the times that I was there the service was very slow and the workers seemed to be messing around a lot instead of doing their job. Prices: The prices are very decent for how big their drinks are. For a 32 ounce I think it's like five dollars and that's really cheap which is nice compared to other healthy smoothies that can get kind of expensive. Atmosphere: I like the layout of the store and it's very nice and informational when you get in there. They have a lot of signs up that tell you information about being healthy and their products. I've always been happy with the smoothies I've gotten here. My go-to is the Gladiator. I come here regularly through the drive through before work on the days when I don't feel like cooking breakfast or don't have time. The employees know me by now, and are always very nice. I highly recommend the rewards app that you just scan before you pay. It's easy and you earn points for money off a smoothie. If you have any doubts, I say just go and try out this place. We've been here twice and the staff is super helpful with making sure that if you say you're vegan that you know what's going in your smoothie. Their app is also very helpful for this. Both smoothies I've had here were great! Sizes are very large too. The smallest one is 20 oz and decently priced at about 5 bucks and if you download the app you can get 2 bucks off. Smoothie King is so refreshing and restorative after a big workout! I'm so happy we finally have one in Des Moines (well, West Des Moines, but still). My go to is the Peanut Power Plus, which can be ordered chocolate or strawberry. Based on other reviews at this location, looks like it's a pretty popular one. I would encourage you to explore other smoothies on the menu though. There are so many options and add ons you could go time after time and not have the same smoothie twice! I really like the Energy Boost enhancer...seriously, it has the same effect as a triple shot of espresso so proceed with caution! I've been to other Smoothie Kings out of state and our West Glen location is very nice. Plenty of seating, nice and bright. It seems though, that most people do the drive thru. When I walked in no other customers were there and there wasn't even an employee to greet me. They were both in the back preoccupied by drive thru customers, perhaps? It was probably only 30 seconds or less before someone came out to help me, but still, not a good look. They're probably still working out kinks. This place is a joke. I have no clue who the owner is or where the managers are however every time I order on the app or go through the drive through it is a mess. Tonight was the last time I go to this smoothie king. I ordered my smoothie through the app, showed up and the lobby was locked. 3 mins of me knocking on the door and the kid staring at me he finally comes over to open the door and says the lobby is closed due to short staffing. I walk in, my order isn't ready, there are three kids standing around not doing anything, another one in the back, and one that strolls into work saying "I don't work until 5"... we'll it was 517pm. Now we have 5 workers, the most I have ever seen at a smoothie king, two cars in line and I finally get my order 18 mins after the scheduled completion time. Asked for a refund since none of them were working on my smoothie and none of them knew how to cancel the order. Sad part is I bet they're making $12-15hr. Smoothie King is my favorite smoothie/juice place around the metro because they offer organic produce. Most people roll their eyes when the question of organic produce comes up, much like I used to, but now that I understand how many pesticides are in non-organic produce it is a priority. What I also love is that there is no added sugar. I've had the spinach-lemon-ginger wellness blend and the Daily Warrior. Hitting the drive thru on $5 Friday before work is becoming a ritual. I first had Smoothie King in New Orleans a little over a decade ago and really loved it. I'm glad they are now in West Des Moines and Ankeny. Tropical smoothie cafe appears to be another worthy competitor with its large selection and food. I like both a lot. This place differentiates itself by being very health focused when it comes to enhancements and how their promote the health benefits of their smoothies. My favorite is the strawberry xtreme. For those who want protein powder and other sorts of health supplements in their smoothies, this is a great place. The drive through is also super convenient as well.
