Brisket with fried okra & baked beans
    Lesley M.

My parents and I stopped here for an early dinner. We were seated and placed our order immediately. Our server was very friendly and gave suggestions for what she preferred. I went with brisket, baked beans, and fried okra. I ate every bit of my food...it was that good! The brisket was flavorful and tender. My okra wasn't overcooked and the baked beans were tasty. Overall great spot with large portions if you are in the area.

THIS is what I've been looking for when it comes to bbq! Immediately upon waking inside I was hit with the aroma of smoked meat. I was shown to a booth and a server came to give me a menu and get my drink order and then my food order. This was very refreshing as most other places are stand in line and order your food and then go find a seat. They offered the basic options that you would expect and even a few more. I went with one of my personal favorites, the burnt ends. They were very good. The green beans were amazing and came out hot, which is not always a given. The ambiance of the place is very warm and inviting. This will be a regular stop for me. I'm looking forward to bringing my wife here and ordered her favorite appetizer - fried mushrooms! Added: I brought my wife back and she loved it as well!

    Fried green tomatoes "Amazing"

The fried green tomatoes were the best around. Catfish was also amazing. I drove along way to try their food and will definitely be back!!

Stopped by for a quick lunch after hearing great things about this place from friends. The lighting inside was on the darker side, and the smell of barbecue hit us as soon as we walked in. Plenty of fun decor covers the walls and is hung from the ceiling. Our server, Tara, was friendly and attentive. The food came out pretty quickly, which was a nice bonus. The menu has a great variety of options, and the prices were definitely reasonable. I got the sliced brisket plate for $16.99, which came with two sides of your choice and a slice of Texas toast. They also offer "premium sides" for an extra $1. The portions aren't even larger than the regular sides. The half-pound of brisket was solid and tender, nothing particularly extraordinary. The fries were delightfully crispy and the mac and cheese was creamy and hot. I was happy with the Texas toast--not overly buttery or burnt. A Solid meal and a great option for some bbq if you're in the area!

Food was awesome! I had the cheese burger and fries my wife had the hoss. My son had the original chicken sandwich. It was all delicious and gave us plenty of food. The service was top notch as well staff was very friendly and made us feel at home the restaurant over all was very comfy and the decor gave us lots to look at. Looking forward to our next visit!!!

2 Meat combo, Ribs and Sausage. Okra and mixed vegetables side

This is a tough review. This restaurant was highly recommended. I love BBQ all over the US so I wanted to give this place a shot. Additionally the average reviews of 4.5 had is about excited. Our server was Tara and she definitely delivered 4.5 service. The problem is that the food did not deliver on the 4.5. I went the ribs and sausage combo with fried okra and mixed veggies for the sides. The ribs did have about the right amount of smoke the problem was that they were overcooked and dry. The flavor was also lacking. If a rub was used on the ribs I could not tell. The sausage as lukewarm to cool and also bland in flavor. The BBQ sauce was pretty good. I went with the original and it was very good and had a consistency somewhere between Kansas City and Carolina. It had the right amount of sweetness and tang. The mixed veggies were a huge disappointment. They seemed to be the frozen vegetables that you find in the grocery store. The okra was ok. The other folks got a pulled pork sandwich, salmon and brisket/ribs combo. The feedback was pretty similar. Again service and the atmosphere was great and laid back. This may have been a 1 off looking at the other reviews but the food missed the mark today.

3 choice meats (fried catfish, ribs, pulled pork), 2 sides(okra, green beans), bread, and a side of Mac & cheese.

So stopped by again takeout and got the same three choices ribs, catfish, pulled pork, green beans, Mac & cheese, Texas toast, and a side of okra, but they were so sweet and tossed in a pickled vegetables. Everyone was so sweet and food is amazing. Hopefully see you all again before returning to Hawaii.

BBQ is good, but the catfish is great! Very busy for a reason! Staff is normally pretty efficient and friendly.

My experience at Bar-B-Que Shack might have been a mistake, B'cause now my expectations are higher than ever LOL !! o______o This review is for the experience I had when visiting my cousin in Jacksonville Wednesday, January the 17th. The timing couldn't have been better when we chose to go. Business was slow, allowing her and I to get comfy and situated at the table we chose. Their display pieces around the restaurant were really neat, and the individuals running it were welcoming and all smiles. We took our time enjoying our amazing food and such. At some point one of the owners, Adrian visited us at our table to see how we were doing. As sweet as he could be, he made sure we were comfortable and satisfied. ^__^ The ribs didn't stand a chance. lol Them spicy collard greens spun me for a loop due to how amazing they were as well. More frustrating Food standards I'll argue with myself for the remainder of my Days I guess! haha Their fried okra was bomb too! Everything exceeded my expectations! My cousin loved her loaded BBQ nachos she chose. A bit too saucy for her, but that didn't negatively influence our overall experience by one bit! Would I suggest this place to anyone ever? Absolutely!

I had the pork dinaguan with rice (you can choose from regular steamed, garlic fried, or veggie fried rice...love having options!) and lumpia with a chili dipping sauce. I like my dinaguan on the soupier side, and this one delivered *just* the right amount of spice. So good! I also ordered a side of mung beans and loved them. Super flavorful, and you can get them plain or with pork, which is a nice touch. My partner had the pancit bihon and really enjoyed it; the serving size was massive, just FYI! For dessert I ordered a halo-halo to go. The flan and ube ice cream combined with all the fillings at the bottom made my inner child so happy. Hadn't had halo-halo in a while and this was such a lovely surprise. Everything about our meal felt like a taste of the Philippines. I ordered the Combo #3 BBQ Skewer with pancit and lumpia, and every bite was delicious. The noodles were a little different than I've had before -- shorter pieces instead of long strands -- but they were seasoned perfectly and full of flavor. The lumpia were long, crispy, and felt like a great value for the price. The pork BBQ skewers were tender, smoky, and had just the right amount of sweetness. For dessert, we tried the Banana Lumpia with Ube Ice Cream, and honestly, it was one of the best desserts I've ever had -- warm, crispy banana rolls with creamy Ube ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate. Absolute perfection! Beyond the food, the hospitality made the visit unforgettable. We were so excited to be there that we asked our server to take a picture of us with our food. Before he could, someone who we think was the owner came by, smiled, and playfully pushed the server into the booth with us -- so now we have a great photo with our server! It perfectly sums up the friendly, family-style atmosphere. If you're anywhere near Jacksonville and craving authentic Filipino cooking, you need to check this place out. The food, the people, and the experience are all top-notch.
