Been coming to Los Barriles for over 40 years fishing at Playa del Sol. The last 6 years we come in September to fish at Playa then head out to Smokeys to watch college and professional football games. I don't drink much alcohol anymore but maybe a glass of red wine in the evening. Hoping that when visiting Smokey's this September, I can find Zero alcohol beers. Please advise. read more

Great place to watch sports games! Service is great and food is good too! The portions are all huge! We ordered the Yellowtail Sashimi (fish of the day) and the Ahumahi (Smoked Ahi Salad). The Sashami was super fresh and delicious! The Ahi was a little over-cooked, but still very delicious. read more

More of a hot spot that some of the other more quaint spots we found. My buddy has is fish processed here so we know the fish was fresh, but everywhere in Barallis is fresh. Best sashimi app we had with the exception of what the Bay View did with my Wahoo. Pina colada was very memorable and depending if the mangoes are in season the mango margi is great. Don't get it if they aren't, otherwise it's a bit stringy. More of a Cobo feel if you want something like that for a night. read more

I have mixed feelings about Smokies. They have an amazing fish service. So 5+ stars in helping us getting cleaned and flash-frozen plus got our triggerfish for our palapa bar ceviche. Chris the owner works very hard to make sure everyone has a great time. And he works just as hard to employ a large population of the local workforce. (And local beers) It's just a sports bar in one of the most charming places on the earth. We rarely start the evening at Smokey's but we do often end up here. Lucky tip: great place for the boys to go hang out after fishing or talking story -- if you are on a family vacation I would go to Tio's. If you are going to use their fish service--travel with a cooler that has wheels. This invention has yet to make it to Mexico somehow. One guy had a yeti backpack but we caught over 120lbs so not sure that would have worked either. The food is better than the bar experience. I would suggest most of the appetizers and just the beer. I really appreciate how easy they make the packaging of fish back to the states. I also appreciate that is the bar that stays open the latest in the east cape. read more

All the food we ordered here was fantastic, but order light because the portions were huge! We ended up having to box a lot of it! The nachos were impressive. They could feed multiple people by themselves. The jumbo prawns and chips were also tasty! The shrimp were cooked just right! And the quesadilla was huge and delicious! Smokey's lost a long-time customer last week. Visited twice with husband and two adult daughters while in Los Barriles for three days. First visit was fine but second was definitely NOT. Overpriced tequila shots - we did NOT ask for top shelf - but paid $20 per shot...which is ridiculous. Tried to talk to server about the disparity in price from our prior visit but she was rude and unfriendly. Something has definitely changed at Smokey's since we discovered it in 2017 - it was once a gem in an oasis but not anymore. Felt taken advantage of for being American. Will be going elsewhere should we return to Los Barriles in the future. read more

We've been here before and knew they have bar food here, but this time service was very poor; the waitress was rude and not happy about being there, and our drinks were way overpriced. We had vodka with plain water at dinner and realized when we paid the check that she added an extra dollar (20 pesos) for the water on each drink bringing the total to seven US dollars per drink (for house vodka with water). We questioned the extra charge (shown on the bill as soda) on each drink and the waitress said they don't have a button on her tablet for water so she used the soda button instead. The drinks would have been overpriced at six dollars for well vodka but the extra charge was the waitress's poor judgment and over the top. We'll not bother them again with our presence as there are too many other deserving places in Los Barriles to have a meal and a drink. read more

We tried Smokey's House for fresh seafood. We were pleased with our fresh catch of the day and the portion was more than adequate and freshly delicious. The outdoor ambiance was typical sports bar, thashed roof w/ comfortable plastic chairs and solid tables. Service was good with good pricing. My boyfriend and I were traveling through Los Barriles and stopped by here for a quick bite. He ordered a shrimp quesadilla and I ordered the catch of the day (prepared in one of the five or-so ways offered.). Both the fish and shrimp seemed super fresh, as expected but the portions were an American-style glutinous pile of cheesy slop. (I'm not kidding his quesadilla was about an inch thick, and the size of a large pizza! It could've fed at least three people.) I'm guessing this place is owned and operated by an American ex-pat without much culinary education. Very overpriced as well. (I'm sorry for this awful review; but that quesadilla, and the high prices we paid had me pretty annoyed when we left.) read more

Come here b/c it's very very entertaining to watch your grandparents get hammered. Smokey's is another of our favorite places. I probably gained 10 pounds there last week and it was so worth it! The food here is a combination of real Mexican food and options catering to the tourists from elsewhere. There are healthy options such as vegetable skewers and not so healthy options such as whatever I chose last week. That's not fair for me to blame it on the food! I had more than my share of house margaritas last week too. Those were delicious! The rest of our group had piña coladas and beers each afternoon. Those were equally delicious, I hear. On top of all the great food, the vegetarian within the group caught a dorado which we had cooked here. Best fish I've ever had outside my mother in law's house. We were all, except the vegetarian who doesn't touch dead fish, incredibly impressed. The service is excellent especially if you go midday for happy hour. (4-6 pm!) I have been coming here for years as my local hang out when in town for fishing. It has the smokehouse attached where you pick up your fish before leaving town. They will always have the menu related to what poeple are catching so I know it's always fresh. The Hooligan is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had and the tacos are fantastic. I catch up on my baseball scores every summer and fall and many Captains and local fisherman gather here for drinks post fishing so it's a great place to talk about your day. Our first time in LB, we are spending a week here. We finally made it tonight, we were looking forward to this dinner after driving past it several times this week. First off, the chips and salsa were delicious, some of the best in LB. My GF's vodka/sodas were also good, she says. Everything else went downhill. First, there was an extremely loud regular at the bar who seemed he had to yell his entire conversation, I could barely hear the server as she took our orders (this is not the first review to note this issue). I've heard how Smokey's has several local beers available (like Baja Brewing) but our server said only Pacifico & Modelo, so I had 2 Pacificos. My GF ordered the catch of the day (Yellowfin) fish & chips in Panko, I ordered the catch of the day rubbed in "Black Pearl" seasoning, sounded like blackened fish which I love. Our server informed me after a few minutes they had no more rub, so I ordered the prawns in Panko & chips instead. What we got was disappointing. Her fish was completely flavorless, seemed to be rolled in just Panko without any other seasoning, just slightly crispy firm fish sticks (yuck). At least my shrimp retained a little flavor themselves, I ended up giving her half of mine. We left half of hers uneaten. Also the coleslaw was flavorless, and the fries were old and cold. Lastly, the bill came to $50USD. For a meal that costs US prices, I expected a lot more. Won't be returning here, unfortunately. read more

My review is not based on the food, because all I had was a Piña Colada here, but let me tell you, it was the best Piña Colada I've ever had! I'm not a huge coconut fan and I'm also not a huge drinker, but I order this drink on occasion because the pineapple and coconut cover up the alcohol taste and the one here was so good I was tempted to order another one! I felt like I was drinking a milkshake, the consistency was very creamy and I couldn't taste the alcohol at all. I shared it with my boyfriend, so I only had about half, but a few minutes later I definitely could feel the effects of alcohol (I'm very lightweight). So this drink was much stronger than I thought, and you couldn't even taste. Double win for those of you like me if you ever want to get a bit tipsy, but don't like the taste of alcohol. Aside from having THE BEST PIÑA COLADA EVER, I also had their chips and salsa and their salsa tasted like marinara sauce, so hopefully that's not an indication of the rest of their food. My boyfriend said he's eaten there before and they're pretty good though. And every time we drive by they are pretty busy. So either everyone wants a Piña Colada (haha jk, maybe all drinks are good and cheap), or their food must be good. It's definitely a sports bar type of place though, so I'm sure many people go there for the drinks. read more

This place is hit or miss. Decent food, mostly ex-pat patrons - Americans and Canadians. Their smoked fish is wonderful (try the smoked tuna sandwich) - the burgers and fries are okay, and sometimes you need a break from all the Mexican food. Mixed drinks are fairly strong but inconsistent with flavor. A lot of people love Smokey's - for me it's just okay but I'll come back next time I'm in town - it's tradition. Something special worth mentioning is they will smoke the fish you caught that day for you and they will also pack it up on dry ice for you to bring back to the States. 3.5 stars. read more

This place is very American, so just know that if you're all about keeping it Mexican. The food is about what you'd pay in the U.S., and it's good. So to many, that means expensive while you're in Baja. They've got three craft beers on tap and though the Peyote IPA isn't necessarily one is seek out if there were more selection, it does the job after months of drinking Pacifico and Tecate. What really shines about this place is the staff. The waitresses were always very nice to me and my boys, and played along while I practiced my Spanish even though they can more or less all speak English. It was the bartender "Bob" (aka Jockson) who stood out the most though. Such a friendly guy and made it a pleasure to hang out here while I worked on my laptop. WiFi takes a long time to connect, but works well once you do. Go for the Butt Stingerz, or sashimi. read more

What an experience!! Never have we nor my two brothers been driven out of a restaurant because of flys all over our food....and they have been all over Africa. I was the lucky one with an over head fan that kept them off my dinner but we had to ask for our dinner to be wrapped to go before the flys took off with it. Then the diesel fumes of the assorted vehicles driving by, a stray dog at our table looking for scraps...with a sign on the wall no pets allowed. Yes, many American's and Canadian lined up at the bar who must have been well into the alcohol to even notice the flys. Needless to say we will not be back. Our first night in Los Barriles, we were unable to locate our first choice restaurant so we ended up at Smokey's. The place is very gringo friendly and US football games are on TVs throughout the restaurant and bar. So, we didn't expect much in terms of food and the prices were more American than Mexican. Fortunately, we made THE RIGHT FOOD CHOICES by ordering the smoked tuna salad sandwich and the smoked pulled pork. Oh my goodness -- the tuna salad was otherworldly and why the smoking of the tuna makes such a difference is unknown to me. This sandwich was seriously good. We go to the East Cape often and always hit Smokey's happy hour. Best marguerita in town and terrific shrimp tacos.

Great food, good service and good prices. We watched the play-off game there and noshed on poppers, chicken wings, fish tacos and nachos. Beer on tap (ipa, black and blonde) enjoyed by my hubby while the rest of us sipped Pacifico. We will definitely be back!
