Inside of the entry way

From reading all the positive review of Yelpers, we decided to give La Pirata a try for dinner. It has a small store front so it's easy to miss but inside is quite spacious. Almost all outdoor seating with a covered roof. The only bad part was that the flies were all over us especially when dinner arrived. The poor waiter stood over us fanning them away with a menu! What service or how unsanitary! The food is mostly cooked over open wood fire and so so delicious. They give you a ton of food for the price. Margarita was to die for. Service was prompt and friendly. If it weren't for the flies...I'd give a 5 Star

I have mixed feelings about this place. Chips and salsa were good. Ceviche was also well executed. Fish and shrimp tacos were only ok. Both were made with fresh ingredients and homemade tortillas. But the seafood was totally unseasoned and bland. I liked that they were grilled rather than battered and fried, but they were flavorless. The margaritas were substantial portions, but just mediocre. Service was friendly and helpful. I'd try it again.

Where to begin???? The beat seafood in town and hospitality. Jose Manuel and Crystal outdid themselves. Definitely stop here for lunch or dinner.....unforgetable!!! Grilled octopus, devices, and zarandeado are the bomb!!

Seafood was spectacular! I had prawns with garlic absolutely delicious and I was given a very generous portion. The owner was gracious and helpful. Loved it - will go back!

Everything was delicious and for a random Mexican restaurant in Los Barillos, it was amazing. The food and presentation was better than 90% of US restaurants. Loved it and likely going back for the Pirata Fiesta!

The tacos. Octopus, fish, and shrimp. All very good.

Stopped in for some tacos to go after a day of fishing. I had the octopus and fried fish tacos. They were very delicious and I liked how they gave me salsa and other condiments to take with me. I didn't eat in, but it seemed like a nice outdoor area. I would go again

Garlic sea bass. Perfection.

An amazing true "Hole in the Wall". Wow, can she cook! We had the garlic sea bass and seafood stuffed chile relleno. As we left she was grilling lobster tails over a mesquite log on the grill. Go!

Incredible! The Camaron Imperial was so good we got a second order. Good margaritas, too!

Really good. Went there 2 nights in a row. Had the aquachile camarones which was great. Prices were really good and the beer was cold.

Food was awesome. We had the ceviche and shrimp tacos. It's right next door to the grocery store.

One of our favorites. Everything is delicious here. There are a lot of shrimp and prawn dishes. The shrimp cocktail is the absolute best!

I have to say, Smokey's stands out as an American bar-restaurant in an otherwise Mexican resort town. Their Shrimp Linguini Alfredo rivals any we've had in the US. And their Pescado Vericruzano (Yellowtail Veracruz) is superb. Both are top examples of what you would expect from a seafood region, such as San Francisco or New Orleans. Smokey's is probably the hottest club atmosphere in town also - a mix of stylish singles, sport fishermen, and American ex-patriot retirees, all becoming friends over the topic of food, drink and sports playing on 3-4 big-screen TVs. Attire is what-ever's-comfortable. And the parking lot is SUVs and 4-wheel ATVs, side by side. And I must say, our waitress, Gloria, was glorious! A couple locals on guitars and bongos play for tips - regulars, obviously known to everyone. After a week of Mexican cuisine elsewhere (tacos, enchiladas, and endless guacamole), it's really refreshing to find a more American diversion. The only thing missing are steak entrees, Smoky's is clearly a seafood restaurant and bar!
