This is the original location of the up-and-coming Iowa coffeehouse chain, and what a location it is!
Years ago, as a highschooler, this was the favorite hangout of myself and my buddies. Featuring antique decor that quietly tells the story of Pleasantville's history, this quaint little shop provides a delightful backdrop in which to chat or enjoy a steaming hot breadbowl of cheeseburger chowder,
While the food is well-prepared, Smokey Row's specialty is its coffee and tea. There are many latte flavors to choose from, with several seasonal rotating flavors available as well. If you like chai, there are five to six different flavorings too. And if you want to keep it simple with straight, black coffee, the brew's tasteful aroma is nothing to complain about.
In the summertime, if you are looking to cool down instead of to heat up, the store offers cold coffee drinks and old fashioned ice cream.
Unlike other coffehouses, this particular brand has done a good job of attracting crowds beyond the "coffee snob" demographic. Everytime I walk in I always see young families and retirees in addition to the expected college kids.
Good food, greater coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere combine to make this particular shop a near perfect establishment in my book.
(Smokey Row also has locations in Pella, Oskaloosa, and a planned location on Cottage Grove in Des Moines at the time I write this review). read more
