Our elderly widowed neighbor died in January. Relatives from both sides are traveling from Fairfield, LA & San Diego to empty the Carmel home, ready it for sale. A complicated mess. My husband, John, has been assisting with logistics, communication, & been the local contact for both sides. Today the LA relatives arrived, the housekey they'd been sent by the Fairfield relatives didn't work. The Fairfield relative called John [@ the gym] who asked "do you want me to get in the middle of this?" so, he contacted our contractor, Dave Allaire, who gave John Smokey Key Service's number. The technician was on his way to a job in Salinas, but stopped by the Carmel home to remedy the situation....nope, the key didn't work. so the tech [John called him Smokey, but he's deceased, was it Ronnie?] had John call the Fairfield relative [who was in the middle of getting chemotherapy!] to have her send a photo of the REAL housekey & the tech performed his magic & resolved the situation. Very pleasant, efficient, completely solved the problem. John wrote a great Google review. Smokey now has a mobile lock and key service. There's no longer a shop to go to so I called he told me he would be by he came by took care of all my needs I was very happy. I made sure I got his card for the next time I need a new key or lock service. talk to him over the phone tell him what you need he'll tell you what he can do for you. read more

I called this business because I locked my keys in my house and I just wanted a price estimate . He was rude and said he doesn't have anyone to send out. I said I just wanted a price to see how much he would charge for services. He said I not going to tell you that because if my price is lower then you'll call me back mind you he was the first business I called. I called Andersen's Locksmith right after and they came within 10 minutes had my door open in less than 3 min. very professional and fast excellent customer service. Don't use Smo-Key unless you want shitty rude customer service and poor excuses I don't even know how they stay in business. If it were up to me they would get zero stars. read more

very navigable locksmith very hard to reach he's very busy. he does mostly commercial work.

Went in yesterday to have some keys cut and get a dead bolt. Wesley was super friendly and helpful, even took the time to demonstrate how to properly install the deadbolt. Thank you to Jon as well who was also very helpful. Great staff! Super knowledgeable! read more

Helped me out by keying six matching locks and adding the keys at no charge. Great value. I knew they were a great value because I bought two extra locks on their recommendation 3 years ago for use outside on my gate and they have not failed me ever. they keyed them right away for me. read more

I called the local Schlage distributor after a few false locksmith starts, and asked them for a recommendation. "Call Smokey," I thought I heard (punchline spoiled.) Ronnie came out and did it all, no problems. Even made some extra keys for me on the spot; he had what he needed at the ready. Fantastic service, professionalism, very reasonably priced, and quick as well. I just wish I knew of companies this good in other specialties. i went in with a forty year old strong box which needed a new lock. he wrestled on one there... but charged me $45. i was in shock... i paid it, but i could have installed that ten dollar lock myself and not paid 35 dollars to put it in. took about fifteen minutes to screw it on. At some point he should have said "hey, this is going to be as much as buying a whole new strong box". I think I'll go elsewhere in the future. read more

Went in today to get some keys made, obviously lol. I just purchased an old 83' Honda motorcycle and have been having lots of trouble finding someone that has the blank.. The staff at Smokey was very helpful, and determined to try to find a key that fit my Honda. They initially cut me a key that didn't work, but they were able to look up the code and find another key to try. Luckily and thankfully the key worked perfectly and they were sure to make sure I was satisfied before I left. Great staff, family owned, and all so helpful and welcoming. zero stars this guy rips off people I needed a key for my 2008 Toyota and I stop by this shop and ask for the price and the guy said $85.00 plus tax I paid $92.86 and I got a imitation key; then the following week I went to the Toyota dealership to buy oil and ask the clerk how much would it cost the key for the car and he said $29.00 original. I understand business need to make money but I don't agree with stealing. I'll never come back and I will not recommend it. read more

Excellent service from the lady at the counter. But my gripe is their price for skeleton keys! 1 key was $10 then an additional $10.50 to look for it, WOW! Found the key with the lock brand new and only $4.29 plus shipping online (less than $10 total). What a difference as I asked for a lock with key if they had one, but they didn't. They have always been very overpriced in my opinion. Only other time I had been in there and I wanted to buy 3 keyed locks all the same, and they wanted around $45 (I did a u turn and hadn't been back until recently, and still the same overpriced). And this was probably around 10 years ago! read more

I work at a photography studio down the street from Smokey Key. They've helped with our locks for as long as I've lived here in Salinas and they're fantastic! I like that they're family owned and operated, just like the company I work for. Kimberly and her husband are super friendly and their daughter is the cutest! The whole family works real hard to make sure they have the best service in town. Our front door lock wasn't working right, the key would sometimes turn in the lock, but sometimes not. When we told Brian about the issue, it was fixed the very next day in a matter of minutes. Thumbs up to Smokey Key! read more
