Hey friends! I worked a conference nearby and was craving a hearty Sunday meal. & I then remembered this hidden gem. Smokeshack is a Black-owned mom & pop shop that's been around forever! I ordered the fried shrimp dinner($18). All dinner entrees come with two sides: I chose Mac & baked beans. My order took about 15 minutes. I really enjoyed the fried shrimp, it was seasoned well and cooked to a perfect golden brown. The Mac and cheese was not my favorite, the texture was a little too loose for my liking. Also, the cheese blend was basic, it's missing the kick that sharp cheddar or mustard would bring. The baked beans were not my favorite either. They were too sweet, I could smell sweetness as soon as I opened the tub. The baked beans could use more of savory touch to balance the sweetness. I was disappointed that this visit was underwhelming as last visit have been better. -Customer service was good. -There's no dine-in. The sides were amazing and the ribs would have been too if they were not severely burnt. I should have checked my food (as suggested) before I left because the ribs (1/2 slab) were burnt. Please check your food before leaving. I am not sure if me going late in the evening and it being dark was the cause but my ribs were burnt and this is totally unacceptable. Took a dinner order of beef ribs with 2 large sides of mac 'n' cheese and yams to go. Prices were super fair and the side portions were generous. The flavor on the ribs was amazing, but a few were a little thin on the meat. Service was fast and moving through efficiently. (The line was out the door and steady but it moves.) I'm not sure if it was just a busy day or they want to ensure you're there so your food is freshly packaged. They put all the food in separate containers and I appreciate that. I was able to control my portions and nothing gets soggy. Everything was fresh. I tried the pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, potato salad and peach cobbler. I enjoyed the food. The sides were basic honestly. Everything was edible but nothing stood out. I did enjoy their peach cobbler. My spouse said it wasn't sweet enough but I think it was simple and to the point. I was driving around looking for a place to eat some lunch and came across this place. I was just driving down the road and this smells coming from this place just grabbed me. The restaurant has a small parking lot that is very tight. It took me awhile to back my car out of my spot. This is only a carry out spot. They don't have a dining area. They only allow 3 people in the restaurant at a time to place their orders. Once your order is place then you have to go outside and pick your order up from the window. I found it a bit odd, but I did not have a huge issue with it because it was a nice day. It would have been a different story if it was cold. They had your typical "Q" on the menu such as ribs, chicken, mac & cheese, green beans, sweet potatoes, and cabbage. I got a 1/2 slab of ribs combo with a side of green beans and sweet potatoes. I also got some of their peach cobbler...shhhhhh. It just looked so good. It took about 10 to 15 minutes for me to get my food from that walk-up window outside. Because they did not have a dining area, I went to a nearby park with a picnic shelter to eat my meal. It was delicious. The ribs were amazing. The green beans were packed with flavor. The sweet potatoes were so good too. The cobbler tasted as good as it looked. Mmmmmm. The meal reminded me of my childhood. It was awesome. I wish I was able to eat all of that goodness in a dining area, but oh well. The 4 minute ride to the park felt like 30 minutes with the good aroma coming from my bag in the passenger seat. I came here again today with my dad . As I'm pulling up the pittmaster had his tongs wrapped around two beautiful slabs of ribs and I all I could think was it's go time baby. I went inside and saw the Mac and cheese bubbling in the tray my eyes and stomach were insync. This place has a friendly staff and it's always a pleasure talking with the cashiers. I tried the yams for the first time and they were just the right amount of sweet. I'm always satisfied with that heavy bag feeling after I spend my money here. I don't ever feel unwelcome or cheated they hook it up. As I was driving back down the road i saw a pick up truck with a bbq on the back all I could think was that guy ain't selling nothing while smoke shack open. The chicken wings were great, as well as the potato salad and macaroni and cheese. However, the ribs and catfish were okay. The ribs were flavorful but tough. I wish they had put sauce on them. The catfish was thin and mildly seasoned. The beans were a little thick/syrupy with a hint of cinnamon or nutmeg. They were okay. Kind of middle of the road. I loved the macaroni and potato salad. I could eat both for days. The chicken was well seasoned. I also ordered peach cobbler and as a lover of all things peach, it was one of the first times I preferred more peach to crust. This is some of the best barbecue I've ever had. From opening to closing, the smoke is visible from MD-210, and there's a line of customers patiently waiting. Before COVID, this take-out restaurant had a few seats at a counter. And they were open everyday during the summer. Now they're open on weekends all year. The chicken is not exceptional, but the beef and pork ribs are the bomb. Sides are great, with the standout their collard greens with pork. We found a hidden gem! My husband and I came across this place while we were out at Fort Washington park. The food is amazing! We ordered a full slab of beef ribs and the half chicken half rib meals they both came with 2 sides. Let me tell you there was so much food! We could have just ordered one meal to share. I gotta admit, I like this spot. Being from the south, it has been difficult to find a good bbq rib since i moved north. We spend a lot of time in DC, but I had never heard of this place. Happened to pass by while searching for a grocery store and on a whim decided to stop by. It's a hole in the wall and they are smoking up the whole neighborhood which caused me to have some hope. Glad I stopped. The half rack of ribs did not make it back to our hotel. Meet was well smoked and the sauce was actually really good, but not necessary. Plus the staff love the Eagles. I've been going to SmokeShack Ribs & BBQ for years. I love their food. It's my favorite BBQ place in the Washington, D.C. area.

I've seen this place off the side of the road when driving so thought I'd try it to get something to watch a game. I felt good when I saw them with large drums and real wood cooking behind the restaurant. That's a good sign. I ordered a half rack of ribs and pulled pork sandwich no bread. I asked is they had brisket but no dice. It was more expensive than I thought at $25 for those two things. Usually i pay about $11.50 for a half rack and $3 for a sandwich. Wau. The ribs were fine but the pulled pork wasn't that great. I'm from Tenn and the south so I try to keep an open mind but our pulled pork is tha bomb. The cashier greeted me well when I walked in so that's nice. In closing I'd say it's a bit pricey but if you need a fix just stick to a half rack of ribs. read more
