I walked into LikWid with a smile under my mask. I browsed a display shelf of large bongs while waiting for the gentleman behind the counter to finish with a couple at the register. Beside the row of bongs was a T-Shirt that intrigued me. It featured in bold face letters: DEFEND NEW PALTZ and a picture of what I believed to be an automatic assault weapon under it. What message was I missing? The shirt made no sense to me. The counter man was ready for me. I pointed out the bong of my choosing. He carried it over to register. As I was reaching in to get my credit card, I casually asked him the meaning of the shirt. "I made that shirt" he announced with pride. I chuckled and said that I lucked out because he was the right guy to answer my question. What does the shirt mean? He mumbled something from under his mask that I couldn't make out. My ears have 72 years of hard rockin mileage on em, but I had a bad feeling about this guy and not wanting to patronize an establishment that sold merchandise promoting citizen militia or individual use of such weaponry. AND IN HIPPY DIPPY LOVE AND PEACE NEW PALTZ OF ALL PLACES. returned my credit card to my wallet and informed the gentleman that I had changed my mind and walked without further comment to the door. I do not recall the exact chain of events that unfolded over the next 20 -30 seconds. But I remember his summoning me back into the store and questioning me about why I chose not to do business in his establishment. In short order, things got heated. He threatened to "knock me unconscious" so we stepped outside where we exchanged parting expletives right there on Main Street. When I got back to the car, my wife who had been waiting patiently asked why I was so flustered. I told her what I just told you. Stopped at the next gas station and picked up $5 pipe, took it to Miniwaska and forgot as best I could about my LikWid experience. But mine is a troubled peace.

For some reason when I walked into this store I thought of Dr Who and I had just stepped foot inside the amazing TARDIS because it just seemed so much bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside. The bread and butter of this business is the smoke shop section although the owner does have an array of items available in the shop I was like a horse with those eye blinders on their face making a b-line right for the smoke shop section of the store so while I'd love to tell you about all the amazing extra products they have here I simply came for a Hookah (in and out). While the store is stocked with quality goods I have to say nothing beats the quality of the store owner! She is a gem of knowledge and was super helpful in assisting me pick out a Hookah explaining my options from a flimsy cheap Hookah, a middle of the road pricing model and the premium hookah's with no pressure to buy her most expensive one. I opted for some quality but didn't want to break the bank so I took one that was moderately priced but not the cheap no frills one. Hehe! They have several of the good hookah brands here. After stocking up on my initial visit I came back to get more stuff for my hookah and I will admit that like many I went online to price compare and the pricing at this smoke shop truly is in line with what I found online even at Amazon. So if like me you're looking for a hookah or any other smoking pleasures then stop by this shop because (1) you can't put a price tag on the wealth of knowledge the store owner freely shares to her customers and (2) you're supporting a local business. Don't believe me stop in and see for yourself. Amazon won't tell you what's the best bang for your buck but the shop owner here will and she'll be brutally honest only to win you over as a customer for life. Now tell me THAT'S not value!
