Smoked just opened in Harahan last week on Jefferson Highway. It is a neat, well done small restaurant that as the name suggests specializes in smoked meats. The BBQ is the star of the menu. The brisket, pulled pork and burnt ends are excellent with a true smoked flavor. The plates are very good but the sandwiches deserve a more tasty, larger bun to do justice to the meat. Of the sides, the BBQ beans are a delicious favorite. The Cole slaw is too dry for my tastes. The home made BBQ sauces are also very good with some unique ingredients. I'm somewhere between a 3 & 4 on this one because some of the food is great and some of the food just misses the mark for me. That said, the service is awesome, and atmosphere is a step above most BBQ places for cleanliness and cuteness. I like the fact that they want everything fresh, and seem to honestly care. You stand in line at the counter to order, and then either take it to go or sit at a table. We took our order to go and everything was packaged very well. They're super quick so this is a great place for lunch, or on the way home for dinner. Overall we'll definitely be back to try more menu items. Most of you know that I'm not all that for eating land animals, so when word on the street said they smoke salmon - I was all in to finally have a BBQ place, close to our house, where I can actually dine with my husband. Usually I'll eat all the sides at a BBQ place and be happy with that, but here, the sides kind of fell flat. The brussel sprouts completely miss the mark for me - not because they have bacon, but because they're soggy. The mac & cheese was good; not the best I've ever had, but I would order it again. I probably need to try some of their other sides to see where those stand. The pickles were kind of funny; I don't eat pickles, so when my husband jumped in on that mid-meal he was unpleasantly surprised to find they were a sweet pickle. Ha! But he said overall they were good. As far as the sauces go, I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy them all because usually I don't use a lot of sauce. Ask they're opinion on which to use for which meat and they'll tell you - and they were on the mark for the most part. Hickory was our favorite along with the Pineapple Bourbon. Dessert was awesome. Their special that day, blackberry cobbler, was absolutely delicious! I would 100% order the blackberry cobbler again! Super flavorful without being too sweet and the perfect ending to the meal. Here the meat seems to be prepared with the idea that you'll use sauce. This definitely changes who will love the meat and who will think it's mediocre because those are two completely different schools of thought there. That all said, I do agree with some people that I don't understand how the meat seems wet/moist, but yet dry/not super flavorful at the same time. For my husband, who is the better judge, he preferred the pulled pork over the brisket saying that the brisket just wasn't his favorite flavor profile (again with the moist yet lack of flavor issue). He'll be back for that pulled pork though and can't wait to try the sandwiches. The salmon is good and I would order it again. It's not super traditional seasoning, but I like the flavors they use. I really liked the texture of it, and how it wasn't overly smoked which can happen with fish. They do full filet if you call and order that ahead. You don't have to order the salmon portions ahead, but they have been known to run out so I would call ahead and make sure they have it if you're going late in the day. read more

Tucked into a small Harahan strip is a very good restaurant offering genuinely tasty smoked meats. The restaurant is a family venture that is very friendly and efficient. Pricing is fair. We ordered Pulled Pork, Brisket, and Ribs. The pulled pork was flavorful and you have the choice of five sauces to add to your meats. The brisket was thickly sliced, very tender, and moist. It seemed to be lightly seasoned with salt and pepper during the smoke and it had a smoke ring. The pork ribs were very tender to the fall off the bone stage. They had a nice sweet glaze and were delicious. The restaurant offers six different sides of which we tried the baked beans and Brussel sprouts. The beans were sweet and good. The brussel sprouts would be better with some smoked meat flavor maybe from some smoked meat debris, but they were ok. The desserts were blueberry or peach cobbler. Both were excellent. This is easily one of the best smoke meat restaurants in south Louisiana. Recommended. read more

I went to smoked recently and was extremely impressed!! When we ordered, the food was ready for us within minutes. Then, when we sat down to eat, it was gone in minutes. The sides were SO good, along with the brisket and chicken sandwich. I cannot wait to go back and try more options. With this being a local family business and one of the only bbq places nearby, I am excited to keep coming back! We don't have a rib place in Uptown. Was out shopping at Walmart in Harahan when my husband and I had a hankering for some bbq. Used my Yelp and SMOKE came up with others great reviews. The barbecued beans were really good. The ribs were tender but unfortunately there was so much coarsely ground black pepper coating them that I couldn't enjoy them. The spice level and black pepper flavor really overpowered the flavor of the meat. The brisket was super flavorful, moist and tender. It didn't even need BBQ sauce. If you use a sauce go for the Hickory. I think it's the best sauce I've ever had. Brisket was delicious. Very juicy and tender. Also got the smoked chicken wings. They were good also. No sugar free options for sauces so we got it to go so we could use our sauce at home. Also not many side options that are sugar free or low carb. We ended up getting the Brussels sprouts which were awesome and the green beans. Smoked is my favorite new place for bbq. Five friends and I went to eat one Saturday afternoon and everybody was well pleased with their meal. I got the half rack of ribs (second time) because I'm so hooked on them. The owners make their own rub and sauces. Finally a place I can eat ribs without corn syrup. I still can't eat the sauce because it's catchup-based (which has corn syrup). The ribs are perfectly seasoned and so delicious I don't need sauce. One friend got a pulled pork sandwich that she raved about. Another got the quarter chicken and she said it was delectable. One friend had the brisket which she gave me a bite an it was excellent. Lets start with the sides, they were good not exceptional but good I'll try mac & cheese and beans next trip. This time was Cole slaw which was a little bland to me it needed more apple cider vinegar and sweet potatoes. I walked in planning on a half rack but they were down to a quarter rack on hand. I was early for dinner so that didn't upset me I'd rather not have stuff that's been held to long. So I had the we quarter rack and brisket. The ribs were terrific no sauce needed pull off the bone great. But the highlight was the brisket cut it with a plastic knife melt in your mouth best I can recall anywhere including Texas and Tennessee. I'll definitely be back soon read more

Steve has got a really good operation going here. The FRESH smoked salmon was done deliciously well (very hard to find outside of pedigreed establishments in this city), and the smoked brisket was bomb (burnt ends that go very well with some vinegar sauce!) I didn't get to try the ribs b/c they were all gone by the time I arrived (good sign). Brussels sprouts were simmered in onions and bacon (and probably some beef fat renderings;), killer. This place is gonna do well and expand. Couple of suggestions: i) Work on some more variant sauces that mix in some ginger, Asian influences (the spicy/sweet sauce and the peach bourbon sauce are excellent, and so was the vinegar sauce); ii) It's just a side, but I'd come up with a more vinegary, spicy coleslaw. I'll be back to sample some ribs, mac-n-cheese and sandwiches soon. read more

Great place and great atmosphere. Love supporting a small business especially when their food is great. I will actually make a special trip to come pick up slabs of ribs. You can tell everything is cooked and prepared in house and not out of the box cause there will be just a touch of difference in the seasoning every time. Had the pulled pork plate with mac and cheese and cole slaw and my girlfriend had the half rack of ribs with green beans and baked beans.
