I recommend this business. I have been going to Smog Tech 3 in Galt, CA for several years to get the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) required smog test every other year. Smog Tech 3 is for "smog testing only" and it is a Star Certified Smog Test Station. The process here is professional and simple. Afterwards, they promptly notify DMV that your vehicle either Passed or Failed the smog test. Fortunately, my vehicle have "Passed", thus far. I would have given this smog shop 5 stars because they did a good job BUT I'm very unhappy with the fact they did not honor my $40 coupon the lady at the front desk said because they get in trouble changing the amount since coupon was presented after service. You know as a business you would think you would want to keep your customers by making them happy. I'm on a budget and was prepared to only pay the $40 but ended up paying $78 which was my gas money until next paycheck. For that $78 price I could have chosen any other shop. Bunch of scammers. They offer you a coupon for a smog test. What they do not mention is that if the car fails, you will pay to pay more since you are using the coupon. So I ended up paying $88 in total because my car failed once. The normal costs for a smog is $70. That is a huge scam and will talk crap to customers to their face. read more

I have been smogging my 4 vehicles here for years. The older lady usually is in the front office and very sweet. This visit was a younger lady who was not at all welcoming. They have a coupon on their facebook page that I showed the employee, she refused it because it was not printed. They have boxes of these exact coupons behind the counter they give you a new one every time you smog. She could have honored it but chose to loose a longtime customer because of this. She said she could give me $20 off but not the coupon? Pretty shady. I had a physical coupon in my car but decided because of her rudeness I would go elsewhere. This business is shoddy at best brought my 2007 truck in for a smog check. The guy drove it in there so and saw my check engine light on and smogged it anyway, knowing it was going to fail so they could charge me. You could've told me just to get my code, cleared and bring it in. Poor poor business sense. I went to get smog since it around the corner from my house ..(actually 2 of them ) so I go to Smog Tech 3 first .. they said I failed because of smoke coming out the exhaust .. I explained to him I watch him do my car the whole time didn't see any smoke .. My car pass every computerized test except for his visual test which he says he see smoke .. Mind u just paid over 2k get my car 2007 S550 116k miles at dealership week prior .. the guy tells me to comeback get retested in 20 days .. my mind told me he was discriminating or didn't want me to pass .. so directly across the street not even a 1 minute away is Galt Smog .. car pass with no problem .. guy even got his camera to record my exhaust and rpm getting revved from 3000-4000 rpm with no sign of smoke .. I go back across the street and tell him I want a refund .. the girl and guy were EXTREMELY Rude and told me they wouldn't give me a refund back and they were going to call the police if I didn't leave .. went back across street where was properly done and ask for the Bar number .. .. where I filed a complaint .. Great service is certainly correct for Smog Tech 3. I wish I got the name of the technician who worked on my car. Allow me to give you some details for why the deserve 5 stars. They are normally open from 9:00 - 1:00 on Saturdays. I pulled up to their driveway at 1:02. The technician was just closing the roll-up door. Our conversation went something like this: Me: "Are you closed"? Tech: "Yes. Are you here for a smog check?" Me: "Yes" Tech: "Ok, no problem. Pull up to the second bay. I'll take you." I had called another Smog place in town in error thinking it was this one and the woman on the phone was so rude. I finally found the business card for Smog tech 3 and from the first call was greeted by the most friendly woman who told me they would be happy to have our business and bring our car in anytime. We got there and were greeted by the same sweet lady and our smog check with certificate was done in under 15 min! We had a coupon for a special 38.00 smog with certificate. Needed to get a smog check for my mothers 1999 Toyota Camry. I was very glad that i happened along this place. The first attempt her car passed emissions but failed the visual. He pointed out severe cracks on the air intake also gave me photos. I was not sure what to do though i had 20 days to take a retest. In that time i found the part on Amazon and found a video on Youtube on how to replace. I am not much of a mechanic but it looked fairly easy to do. Drove back up to Galt 17 days later and replaced it in under an hour. Immediately drove back to Smog Tech 3 for second test. It was $8 & change for retest also took advantage of their registration renewal option for an additional $40. To me it was well worth it. Walked out with passed test, renewed registration and new tags for car all in under 30 minutes. I was extremely happy with them and their service and highly recommend. read more
