The guy that smogged my car today was argumentative about everything, was rude, tried to rip me off for $40.00 claiming he gave me the correct change when we both knew better and called me a racist for no reason at all. Alan is the absolute best. I had been to him one other time and I already knew he was good, but this kind man went out of his way for me. I had a complicated situation with my SMOG inspection situation. I had a brand new battery. I ended up having to drive almost 300 miles to break the new battery in. Alan was with me every step of the way. I must've gone to see him 4 or 5 times before my battery finally had all the codes clear. Alan is one of the kindest proprietors that I've dealt with in a long time. He was so consiterate of me as I wanted to stay in my car due to it being cold outside. I didn't even need to put my car into the bay because he had hoses that reached to the front of his shop. He even took time to recommend something for my very old car that might help future mechanics diagnose its condition. And he kindly turned my car around to facilitate leaving his shop. called earlier in the week to ask for hours, price, and appointment... very nice man on the phone... told us to come the next day at 11 am and the charge will $50 including certificate... we show up on tuesday and he greets us and checks our car... he uses a scanner and immediately tells us that the car will not pass, the car needs to be driven more, at least 50 miles on the freeway.... he tells us to bring back the car in a couple of days... he says he doesn't want to charge and not have it pass, he needs to get paid for his time... we're happy cuz he doesn't want to charge and waste our time if the car doesn't pass, to us that seems very fair and kind of him to say... so i drive my car for the next couple of days on the freeway and i take my car to autozone and my mechanic, they both say it's ready for emissions test... i take my car back to smogmasters on friday at 11am... i let him know i took it to autozone and they say it's ready to be smog tested ... his lot is busy so he tells us to come back in an hour... we go back at 12pm, he runs the smog test and we pass... he gives me a paper to sign and it reads $68, my mom shows him the online coupon stating $42 price plus $8 certificate, i also tell him he said the price was $50 on the phone .... he tells us the coupon is no good cause "(he) checked the car 3 or 4 times, no one was else would do that".... we were very confused with his statement... he used a scanner on tuesday, in less than a minute he tells us to come back in a couple of days after driving it more and then he did the actual smog test on friday... he eventually dropped the price to $60 total... he's a very nice man, but it felt very disingenuous for him trying to charge us more than he said on the phone... if he was going to do that, he should have told us i'm going to charge a fee or extra for testing your car with a scanner... the miscommunication was unfortunate and it left a very bad taste in our mouths read more

Fantastic service by Alan, professional and friendly. He started out with a diagnostic of my car's computer to make sure all systems were ready for the smog check. I could see less scrupulous places skipping this step either out of laziness or just so they could potentially charge the customer for a "fail." He then aligned my car on the rollers (whatever they're called lol) prior to the test, something other places could also cut corners on by doing it during the test. Little details like this showed me Alan was less concerned with ringing up a sale and more concerned about safety and being professional. During the other tests, he was very helpful in explaining (simply for a layman like me) the benefit of properly maintaining your air filter so it doesn't snowball into a scenario that ultimately damages your catalytic converter and racks up a greater repair bill. My 1999 Honda Accord LX, with the original CC, passed with flying colors! After getting wallet gouged at the DMV (stupid parking tickets) I am legal for another year :) Make sure to get the coupon off their site for $32.75. With the $10 Smog Certificate, it was $42.75 out the door. No hidden costs or fees or other BS. Straight up place. read more

Revised Review (3/30/16) I felt I had to revise my original post after my second experience at Smog Master. I originally had a 5 star experience, but brought it down to 3 stars after this last visit. I brought my '87 911 back in for a smog check and Alan was willing to preform a Diagnostic "Pre-Test" for me for free since I was a returning customer. He told me my car probably would not pass either CO or CO2 (can't remember which one exactly), but he could repair the car and get it to pass for $200. I called my mechanic and was told that my car should not have a problem passing smog. I took it to my mechanic to look it over and his diagnostic showed that the car was fine. $60 later my car was good to go. At first I felt like Alan was trying to rip me off and get me to pay for something that was not needed, but he doesn't strike me as that kind of person so I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe he just missed something. Original Post (6/11/14) Thanks Alan!! Tthis place is clean, fast, honest, and fair. Charged me about $50 for a smog check (waived the $20 for the EVAP Test that was on the estimate because it was not needed) that 3 other places quoted well over $100 because the car was a Porsche. The shop was clean and comfortable while I waited. He was a nice guy and we chatted while he worked on my car. Overall Great experience!!
