Friendly atmosphere but my burger was dryer than a bulls bum going up a hill backwards.

Definitely an old local cafe kind of place that has the original wood floor. It's not decorated to look vintage, it just is. We sampled three dishes today: Pulled pork "Pizza" on naan, BBQ sauce was on it and it was neither sweet nor vinegary. Quite nice and a lot to eat. Chicken breast sandwich with bacon, Swiss cheese, thousand island on fluffy (My Word) rye. It's called Grandma Sue. I usually hate these so called "Rye" breads, but in this case the combination of all the ingredients actually work. A large sandwich, will fill you up. Pulled pork BBQ sandwich plate with baked beans on the side with even more pork. Some potato chips included. Delicious, and the sandwich is on a brioche bun that does not drip or fall apart. I also had a watermelon lemonade slushi that was delicious. It is good to have a nice place to have lunch in Manawa again. I'm going to try the Friday night fish fry next

Running orders, waitressing, bussing tables, doing checks and answering the phones for pick up orders. That is a lot for one person and does not leave room for good service to customers. We waited 15 minutes for our order to be taken. The corn nuggets were yummy, but the chicken tenders were definitely not what I was expecting. They looked straight out of the freezer section at Walmart. Their soda is cans with ice in a cup, in case that matters to you. Everyone else said their food was good, so it is definitely an improvement from no breakfast or lunch options at all.

We arrived around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday and were seated immediately for the two of us, which was lovely. I started with a filthy martini (one part vodka, one part olive juice)... and they nailed it. Exactly what I asked for. My mom ordered a whiskey old fashioned press, which she enjoyed. For appetizers, we ordered the French onion soup, deep-fried mozzarella, and bacon-wrapped scallops. My mom also had the soup of the day, which was a turkey pot pie soup. Everything was very good overall. One small note on the scallops, and this is important for context: I personally have a strong aversion to seafood, and my mom is usually careful not to order seafood around me because even the smell can make me nauseous. However, scallops are usually an exception, as they don't tend to have a strong seafood odor. In this case, there was no unpleasant smell at all, which I appreciated. That said, the scallops themselves appeared under-seared and very pale, and the bacon was undercooked. Not raw, just soft and not crispy. My mom agreed it could have used a few more minutes. A minor miss, but worth mentioning. For my entrée, I ordered the French dip, which came with carrots... and honestly, the carrots deserve their own moment. They were tiny, perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, buttery, and balanced with just the right amount of sweet and salty. I love carrots, and these were exceptional. Highly recommend. My mom ordered a Wednesday special trio, which included barbecue ribs, pineapple glazed ham, and a turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I'll note that the ham itself was delicious, but the pineapple glaze wasn't quite for me personally, as it leaned a bit too tangy for my taste. That said, the turkey was phenomenal. I had a bite, and it was moist, flavorful, and absolutely something I'll come back for. The mashed potatoes and gravy were excellent. I love stuffing, but this one wasn't my favorite; it tasted slightly sour or underdone to me, though that could simply be a preference thing. I'd still order the turkey dinner again without hesitation. Because it was my birthday, our server Jenny surprised me with a slice of chocolate cake, which was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I was very full... but yes, I ate the cake, and it was delicious. We also split a Pink Squirrel for dessert, which was rich, nostalgic, and the perfect way to end the meal. Service was excellent throughout the evening. Jenny was warm, attentive, and paced everything perfectly. Food came out efficiently without overwhelming the table. The hostess was also welcoming and kind. The dining room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The lighting was just right, not too dark. We also arrived at a great time, because shortly after our entrées came out, the restaurant quickly filled up. One small suggestion: the website mentions half-price apps and drink discounts, but it isn't clear that those specials are bar-area only. Not a huge issue for us, but clearer wording online would help manage expectations, especially for guests who can't sit at high bar seating. Overall, this was a really special dinner, especially after years of hearing about the Red Ox and never going. More positives than negatives by far. Final rating: 8.5 / 10 We'll absolutely be back... especially for the turkey dinner and those carrots.

My husband and I are on a mission this summer, searching for the best Friday Fish Fry near us…read more After 10 Friday meals, Cattails is leading the way. The place is newer and very comfortable with a great bar, if you need to wait a bit for your table. We waited only 10 minutes and we did not mind. At all. A cut WAY above the rest are the Classic Old Fashioneds, served the way they should be -- heavy on your choice of bourbon and very light on the soda. (Definitely NOT Wisconsin Style.) I had a smoked Old Fashioned that was one of the best I've ever had! But the meal got better! A salad bar is not a requirement for a fish fry, but it sure goes a long way. Fresh, tasty, and a great way to start the meal. We both ordered the perch. I had a baked potato side and he had the fries. Best perch we've had -- light on breading, hot and not oily at all. Service was excellent and we decided to have a second Old Fashioned back in the bar for dessert. We'll be back!

We had a pleasant dining experience with good food and good drinks in a classic Wisconsin supper club environment. There was only one gentleman working it seemed (other than whoever was in the kitchen), and he served both a few patrons at the bar as well as waited on our table. We were the only party in the restaurant at the time, but I still found this impressive. The menu was standard supper club fare. Everyone in our group ordered the prime rib (except me), which came with a solid soup and salad bar. We shared an appetizer sampler that included some good mozzarella sticks and jalapeno poppers. I opted for the walleye sandwich. Although plain in presentation, it was delicious and a large portion. I went with the house-made fries which were thin and crispy instead of the frozen crinkle cut (someone in our group who tried both said they preferred the house-made). My significant other chose the hash browns with his prime rib - we both agreed these were delicious. I tried a few bites of the prime rib as well, and I thought it was good. All-in-all, we had a good experience at The Rivers. The service was great, the atmosphere was traditional, and the food was good. The food was a little on the pricey side ($20/plate), but the portions were definitely large. The drinks were inexpensive; they had an old fashioned special going that night of $3.50/drink. I don't normally order cocktails but being in a supper club it seemed like the thing to do, so I went with a brandy old fashioned sweet with olives. I was pretty satisfied with it! I would recommend checking it out for dinner and drinks.
