Smithfield BBQ in Warsaw is pure comfort food for me. It's right in my small hometown and no matter how long I've been gone, this is always one of my first stops when I'm back. It's just that kind of place that brings me so much comfort. This restaurant is reliable, unfussy, and really good at what it does. As is the case throughout the South, the fresh brewed iced tea is one of the highlights. One sip and it immediately tastes like home. My favorite thing on the menu has always been and will always be the Brunswick stew. It's absolute comfort food that's warm, hearty, and nostalgic in a way that hits every time. It's an Eastern North Carolina tradition, and Smithfield BBQ is one of the best in the business. As for other regional specialities, the hushpuppies deserve their own shoutout too. The slightly sweet cornbread batter is perfectly fried every time, which makes these little carb morsels crunchy on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the inside. I've been eating them dipped in ketchup since I was a kid and I'm not about to stop now. Quit quietly judging me, LOL! The bbq sandwiches are messy and not designed to be easy to eat on the go, but the bbq plates are the best deal. I love getting the pulled pork plate with potato salad (the best). Since I'm Eastern N.C. born and raised, I basically was born with a taste for classic vinegar bbq sauce. Smithfield's is terrific, and I love drowning my pork in that tangy goodness. Every bite seriously brings me back to lazy summer Sundays hanging out with my best friend in my Grandmama's grassy backyard. You can't put a price on those culinary memories.   Service is fast, takeout is easy, the dining room's small but cozy, and there's even a drive-through for when you're in a hurry. Smithfield BBQ is not trying to be trendy or fancy, nor have they ever been. It's just a place that serves really solid Eastern North Carolina BBQ done right. I came back again due to the great food and excellent customer service I received last year and was once again so pleased with my short drive thru visit. The person on the intercom was so pleasant and easy to understand and the food was hot when i received it. I ate part of it in the car on the drive, but ate the rest when i arrived at my destination. Super convenient location right off of 40 with some terrific food options. Been to this franchise before so decided to swing off of route to grave 2 pints of pulled pork to take home since we don't have any of these franchises at home (unfortunately). Very clean and well kept restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. They even have additional picnics tables out back as well. Lots of BBQ options. They also have chicken fingers and tons of sides. They have pork rinds that are great as well. They even sell some merchandise to take home with you. Don't leave without some pulled pork! It's a vinegar based sauce and oh so delicious. Excellent flavors, quick service, clean restaurant. Quality fast food. I got the barbecue plate, with Eastern NC style bbq, potato salad and beans. The beans and potato salad have amazing flavor and the barbecue comes a bit bland but moist, so if you like a lot of flavor I suggest adding vinegar. The bbq sandwich with slaw is delicious. Smithfield's Chicken N' Bar-B-Q saved our Bell family gathering when our caterer scheduled us for the incorrect date. My 83 year old mother was in tears and we had to think quickly. We reached out to Mr. Lerma (I hope I spelled his name correctly) with our challenge and a request for food to feed 60 people. Much to our surprise we were told our request could be filled in 20 minutes!!!!! 20 minutes!!!!! We all felt relief and complete gratitude for the calm and confidence in his voice. So we have been eating here for years on our way from Raleigh to Emerald Isle and have never been disappointed until today. While the service, and taste of the food were excellent, it appears "Shrinkflation" has been adopted. This place was lovely! On the I-40 drive back to the Triangle from the coast it's hard to get a decent lunch. This place came highly recommended by Yelp, far above anything else at this highway exit. We were not disappointed! i got the barbecue pork platter, which came with 2 sides (I got delicious and fresh coleslaw, as well as the tasty and sweet baked beans) and hush puppies. These hush puppies are definitely something special! On top of the good food, the service was SO friendly! The restrooms were clean. The whole time we were there we saw at least one staff member cleaning the dining room in some fashion. I asked for a to-go box and a small cup for water for my dog- the friendly cashier gave the to-do box, a plastic bag, and a plastic to-go container with a lid, filled with cold water! I make terrific fried chicken. We come here when I'm lazy. Their Cole slaw is as good as mine- and a whole lot easier . And the chicken is tasty. They season the chicken- not just the coating. Ashley was friendly and ready to help in anyway she could. First, she helped me----no she set up the tables for me. Our food was out quickly and as always very tasty! Ashley helped in anyway she could to meet our needs and the needs of the little ones. We had a wonderful family lunch for Mother's Day---with 3 Mommas present.
