Visiting mom in area not many options open on Sunday breakfast. Was long line checking out when we arrived so we picked a spot to stand to get a table. Hostess or whatever walked right by us to greet the nice non melanated party. She gestured to us as we were waiting first. Hostess then basically told us to choose from 2 tables, no menu or nothing. I could say a lot but I'll suffice it to say the order was wrong, the omelette was tasteless, the grits were soupy, the toast had squirt on butter and the service was lousy. The food is okay for the most part. I would recommend if eating there , eat at the restaurant and avoid to go orders. The last two times they've either made the order wrong or miss items. Kathy and I were traveling to the Triangle friends had told us about another place in town which we discovered to be closed. Rats! What to do? We both had to worked ourselves into being hungry and the thought of "...hurrying down to the local fast food place..." I opened up Yelp (what else) and discovered The Grist Mill. After perusing the menu and reviews, we were on our way with alacrity and arrived there soon after (a good thing as they were closing within 30 minutes for Memorial Day). We walked into a MAD HOUSE!!! A wonderfully laid out cafeteria-style place that is clean (defines what clean is!) and whose wait staff moves like they have skates on. No slouches here and no one sitting around waiting to clear tables either. They all work together in serving all the customers (no glass or cup shall long remain unfilled!) and they SMILE! Now the FOOD! Oh my oh my. One of the reviews mentioned their corned beef hash (a definite favorite of mine, IF done properly). We were told to have a seat and found an unclaimed table; within a few minutes we had coffee and had placed our order (scrambled eggs, bacon and yes, corned beef hash). The scrambled eggs were fluffy and really tasty; fours thick slabs of bacon and the hash!!! The cooks here did an incredible job; no mushy mess, but a delicious mixture of flavors that my tongue and stomach singing! Yeah, happy stomach and I will return. read more

First i wanna say Denise we love you and your service. The first day we came i must say i was overwhelmed by your attentiveness which led to our food coming out cold but..... you are apart of that special thing that comes with going to a local spot like Grist Mill. This spot is well known ritual to the many people of Clinton. Warms smiles from the staff to the fellow customers and simple breakfast choices that stick to the ribs. Food served nice and hot and my highlights were the grits, biscuits and sweet tea. Places like this are always a treat being my eating leans more towards non dairy and plant based. So we have been here twice because our daughter lives in the area. We are a very diverse family and tend to get looks. Our waitress was simply annoyed. Not sure if she was annoyed at our diverse family, at her job, the weather, or life in general, but she sure was. It gave us the wrong impression and she acted like she was annoyed the entire time we were there. The coffee was ok, they put a huge jug of sweet tea on the table they went un-drank. We ordered 4 meals with a few side requests. I got the French toast , our-table ordered two eggs plates and pancakes. The French toast was bland, cold and tasted like cafeteria food. I ordered a side of grits which honestly was like eating glue it was awful. My wife got pancakes which tasted like a cheap box mix or microwaved pancakes they were tough and bland. The egg plates were ok nothing special about Denny's quality. The bacon was the cheap stuff, but the sausage and turkey sausage was decent. Honestly this place just does not serve great breakfast. I really should give no stars since we never got to eat. We were asked to seat ourselves for breakfast a few weeks ago and we did. We then waited for 20-minutes for someone to come to our table. The neighboring waitress went out of her way not to acknowledge us. The restaurant was kind of busy but I noted the neighboring waitress spending more time talking with some middle school aged child that was helping out than the patrons. I made the older lady at the cash register aware as we were leaving and she asked where we had been sitting. No apology. No let us try this again. Great breakfast and reasonable prices. Had western omelet and grits and my husband had country ham omelet and hash browns and it was delicious. My kids enjoyed the pancakes (which were the size of hubcaps) and the bacon is perfect, crispy but not burnt. All 4 of us had more than we could eat for only $22. read more

Found this place on Yelp. There were do many cars in the parking lot I knew it must be good. BUT there were problems. We walked in and they have the cash register right at the door blocking everything up. You didn't know if you should find your own seat ot wait to be seated and it was too busy for someone to tell you. I asked the cash register lady but she was too busy to answer. The place was very loud and this really bothered my husband. Our waitress seemed like a very sweet girl but she seemed to be overworked and unfortunately she wasn't a very good waitress. About 25 minutes later I was served my order of French toast and it was probably very good but it was served stone cold. My husband had a pork chop with eggs - also cold. The waitress walked by our table several times never making eye contact or stopping to see if we needed anything. We had to stop her twice to ask for something. She dropped the bill off and never said thanks or come back or anything. Too bad. She should learn being friendly and serving hot food would probably increase her income. They did have very good coffee and the prices were very reasonable. I wouldn't mind going back to have their buffet but I'll never get my husband back in there. read more

Went at lunchtime. Party of 4 adults and 1 toddler. Told to seat ourselves. Took nearly ten minutes for a waitress to come to our table, even though there were what seemed like an excess of employees. I ordered a cheesesteak, my wife a cheeseburger, and the others got breakfast food. About a half hour later the cheesesteak comes out alone. The waitress said she didn't want it to get cold. The other food takes at least ten more minutes to arrive. I wasn't about to be rude and eat while everyone else stared at me because they have no food. So my food does sit there getting cold. My wife's cheeseburger was extremely overcooked. Our fries were soggy. I asked for some ranch dressing. Waitress came back with a giant bottle of, I kid you not, Walmart Great Value Ranch. Waitress seemed annoyed the entire time. When we were done the waitress never bothered to come back with a check so we could pay. She was with a bunch of other employees eating at a table across the restaurant laughing it up. After about fifteen minutes of inattention I finally got up and went to the register and paid without the check. Mediocre food at best, horrible service. read more

side note to yelp.... you really need a 0-star option as some places deserve it. grist mill being a number one of the list. we don't live far but don't go out to eat for breakfast very often due to hubby being sick. we have eaten there before but was suitable at the time. today i took my mom and sister as we planned a day of outings. it was busy as always as it is one of two places to go eat a sit down breakfast in miles. i went to the restroom as soon as we found a table . the waitress still had not come to the table by the time i got back. then when she did bring the menus we ordered our drinks. she brought only the waters then after a spell, bought the coffees. we gave our order. we chatted as we waited and i watched the people coming and going. i saw three (3) different new parties come in after our order was placed. one right behind us. sure enough they were served before us as were the other two parties when the waitress gave the other party their meal (same waitress as ours) i asked her why , she said they had lighter fair and ours was just been called.............. OK fair enough ...............she brought our plates i put butter on my waffle ,it sat there like a iceberg i said something about it being cold she want to make another so i waited 30 minutes for this one and you want me to wait while the rest of my family ate theirs and then they wait while i eat my hot food they didnt get? DONT F'ING THINK SO i tried the one egg like ice it was and the bacon........so the table behind me was family to the place they got hot food......... one of the other parties had pancakes like one in our party. the other had joined another party then left before them. the waitress let our plates sit while she took care of her favorites. she only came to the table once with coffee, mainly cause i had the cups at the edge of the table and she had just brought the food. yes when she saw my plates sitting with me not eating i told her no in no uncertain terms i did t not want any more of their food. i waited until my part ate their cold food then paid the check......the cashier who had been friendly when i went to the restroom was not cold and very unfriendly....she didn't even ask how our meal was.........lmmao........she knew and she didn't care whether we came back or not..............don't worry i will never step foot in your restaurant ever again. The place was really new and looked like a bingo hall but it was only for breakfast only. The store closes at 1:30. The food wasn't bad the though. I waffle and pancake toppings were good and the waitress was nice but it took a long to to get food though. I would recommend this if you want a slow morning but other than that, get far away. read more

Very delicious! customer service is great, people are friendly and its cheap! the restaurant is very clean every time i go in there. my father and i go there and get a whole table of food for $16 total. where else can you go and do that? if you haven't been i suggest you give it a try. read more
