Food is very very good. We had 5 in our party and had chicken and pulled pork. The chicken strips are the biggest I have seen and delicious. The platter came with an abundance of fries and amazing hush puppies. My husband had a huge pulled pork sandwich with slaw. I chose to order off the kids menu- had a huge chicken strip, a huge amount of fries and three Hush puppies. I shared the fries and hush puppies with my husband and was stuffed. My brother in law had a combo plate of fried chicken pieces and pulled pork. If you have an appetite - you will not disappointed. We had to try the banana pudding - which is 5 star! This place was close to our hotel so I wanted to grab lunch. Service wasn't really great. The woman at the counter didn't really give me a chance to look at the menu. I have eaten at this location for many years. This visit was not good at all. I asked for hot food and two sides and half and half Tea. The BBQ was warm and the French fries were terrible and the Tea was sweet. I asked the manager about the fries being so small. They look at me like I was crazy. I won't be back. In the Carolinas, especially NC, BBQ means one thing...pulled pork served with a vinegar sauce topped with coleslaw on a bun or white bread. Smithfield's is a local fast food chain that serves classic Carolina BBQ AND fried chicken. The BBQ is perfect! The fried chicken is all white meat prepared with a thick crunchy coating. The breading is generous leaving the chicken underneath moist. I don't really like fried foods and I was able to easily remove the breading and skin. The breading is well seasoned but not spicy. I also ordered the BBQ plate and got pork, coleslaw, fries, and hush puppies, which were good, not sweet, not cakey, not doughy. If you like Carolina BBQ, get some fast at Smithfield's. That said, I had never experienced Carolina apple-cider vinegar barbeque until I got to try it based on the recommendation of a friend. Well, call me a fan! This style of barbeque rids itself of the heavy tomato bases and really allows the flavor of the meat to shine through. The crispness of the vinegar flavor with the added hints of sweetness really offer up a subtlety akin to a refreshing white wine on a hot summer's day. Try the pork sandwich and get it with slaw, you'll thank me. Their barbeque chicken was good, but the vinegar barbeque is the real reason this restaurant is so popular. I am a huge Smithfield foods fan. I stopped at this one while in town for business and I have to say I was very disappointed. I ordered the shrimp dinner with coleslaw and baked beans. When I got my food, I literally had to look for the shrimp which was hidden in a very small portion underneath a half dozen of hashbrowns. The food was good however the portion size was not nearly enough and I'm not a big eater. Within an hour I had to go to another restaurant to purchase more food. I simply didn't want to eat a half dozen of hush puppies when I went to the establishment for shrimp. If you have an average appetite this is not your location. The service was not bad and the food was not sloppy. I would not eat here again for this reason. read more

I love Smithfield BbQ, they have great sweet tea, the food is always fresh and I go out of my way when traveling east to grab a bite! Some are better staffed than others which unfortunately can make it or break it! We decided to stop here while on our trip down to the beach this weekend (yay!) I've eaten at the one in Lumberton, NC before and for some reason I remembered liking it. This time not so much. The staff were friendly and polite and checked on our table often. The will even refill your drinks and take away your trash when you're finished. I ordered the regular barbecue platter with fries, baked beans, and hush puppies. Nothing really tasted "bad" but maybe the presentation wasn't great. The barbecue was very pale and didn't have any sauce or seasoning really. I used a lot of hot sauce. Everything else was "ok." We visited on 8/17/17 and 8/18/17 and had very pleasant experiences. The dining room server was fantastic. Very friendly and very good at making sure we had plenty of tea or whatever else we needed. On the way back from the beach we stopped at Smithfield's Bar-B-Q, a local chain with 30 North Carolina locations. We had a hard time finding this place - even our GPS was off at first. When we finally found it we ordered efficiently at the counter and our food arrived quickly. Service was top-notch - more than once someone came by to refill drinks and ask us if we needed anything. Unfortunately I found the BBQ itself lackluster. The meat did not have that smokiness that you crave when you go to a BBQ joint. On a better note, the slightly sweet and elongated hush puppies were quite good. Slaw and fries were average. On the whole this was a decent spot to stop on the way back to Charlotte but next time I'm going to do more research to find a really down home non-chain option that will hopefully have better 'cue. read more

Fast food BBQ?! Was my initial reaction upon seeing this place as an out-of-town-er. I ordered a full dinner plate of white meat and received some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Their vinegar-based sauce is different, so if you're not from the area, I recommend trying it on the side before going all-in and drizzling it over everything.
