I put it back together, but the water would no longer turn off so we had to keep the water to the entire house turned off. I called Ray's and they were not able to come out that night. The next day they were there within an hour of calling them. An hour later they had it fixed completely. The competition came out the night before and talked about putting valves in the basement, tearing out a bedroom wall to get to the back of the plumbing, and cutting through the shower wall! I knew this was not required because Ray's had switched out the other cartridge just a few months prior to this incident. The competition told me the cartridge was stuck and he may not be able to get a part since it was 8 p.m. He looked up the part and said it would be about $500 for the part and around the same for labor. I told him I'd call another plumber and deal with the mess in the morning. The competition charged me $189 to do nothing. Ray's charged me a total of $200 for parts and labor. I will never attempt plumbing DIY again and I will never use another plumbing service!

This company came out quick but proceeded to ghost me for two weeks regarding the installation of my air pump. After that long of a wait, I decided to call R & L after seeing them at my neighbors house. I explained I needed a new air pump. I unfortunately can't remember who exactly I spoke to, but they were honest and told me it was an easy fix and that I could do it myself to save money. They told me the exact pump I needed and where to get it from. I had the pump in less than 48 hours from the dealer and install took less than ten minutes. It was as easy as they said it would be. R&L saved me about $150 with their honesty and also did mention I could call or text with any questions. I will definitely use them in the future for any problems that may arise.

When two workers came for the furnace and found water, they cancelled themselves AND THE PLUMBER, refusing to help pump out the water unless I signed a contract for $7-14K in repairs right then. They wasted valuable time knowing that an upcoming severe freeze warning could cause further damage to my home. I immediately scheduled on line to have them come and pump out the water and there was same day availability. They cancelled my service call because I hadn't signed the contract, which they never even sent out. They were greedily trying to upsell me when I was under pressure and cost me valuable time. That's unethical and it made them lose my business.

But within 2 weeks it had clogged again. They came out and told us that they went out 130 ft and we were good. A bill of $165.00. This week our sewer line exploded, what a mess with feces and paper everywhere. Could not get a hold of Illini but left messages. We called another local sewer company on Monday, November 25th, they came out Tuesday am and to our surprise the block was less than 130 ft via their camera. We had a huge tree roots that needed to be cut. They needed to put in an outside cleanout in order to reach the blocked line. So we literally threw the payment of $165 down the toilet. If they couldn't or didn't want to put in a cleanout to fix our problem, that would be fine, just tell us. Don't charge us for a fixed issue when you didnt fix the issue. A sewer line that had been placed less than 10 years earlier had completely collapsed and failed. After excavating the sewer, the evidence in the ground suggested the line was not properly buried. In short, this experience taught me two things. First, get your sewer scoped before making a home purchase. Second and this one is more difficult for the homeowner, vet the sewer replacement candidates and make sure they know what they are doing and not cutting corners at your expense. Anyways, given the extent of the damage we contacted several sewer specialists to get estimates. Tom Schnapp, not only gave us one of the most competitive estimates, but presented us with several options and suggestions to save money. While suggestions to save money may seem a little ominous given my cost cutting gripes discussed above, Tom's suggestions only involved brush clearing and the extent of sewer line excavation. Although there were other competitive bids, there were also a few that were disproportionally horrible - Mike Williams wanted approximately three times as much as Schnapp and other competitive bids. By the time Tom and his crew finished they had excavated and laid over 100 feet of sewer line. He finished ahead of time and under budget.
