This was my first -- and definitely my last -- time doing business with Smith Imports at 2965 S 3rd St in Memphis. I originally heard great things about their service department, but my experience was the complete opposite. I brought in my wife's GLS 450 to get the heat fixed. The service manager, Chad, told me to bring it in on 11/12 and said he'd diagnose it the same day or the next. Two days passed with no update. When I called, he admitted he never wrote my number down. He promised the car would be ready by 4 PM on 11/13, then called at the last minute saying it wouldn't be. The next day he said it was ready, but when I picked it up, the heat still didn't work. They had done no work on the vehicle but told me it was ready. By this point I was extremely frustrated, not to mention inconvenienced. My wife had been without her car for 4 days already. He offered to pick the vehicle up from my home, fix it, and detail it, so I agreed. On 11/20 he texted saying he still couldn't figure out the problem and would issue a refund. The car was returned on 11/21, and I sent my card info to process the refund -- which never happened. When I asked about the refund, the over told me he would not refund the money and that if I wanted my money back, I'd need to bring the vehicle back in and they would put the old part back in my vehicle that they had taken out. Old part or new, the car wasn't fixed, so I should not have been charged as though it was. On 11/24 I spoke to the owner again when he called changing his tune. Andy Smith said he fired Chad and assured me he would either fix the issue or refund my money. I brought the vehicle back on 12/1 based on his word. The next day, I received a call saying Andy would not fix my vehicle or refund me. I was simply told to come pick it up. It has now been 20 days. My vehicle is still not repaired, and Smith Imports refuses to refund me for work they could not complete. Completely unprofessional experience from start to finish. We also incurred fees from Uber rides and rentals since my wife was without her vehicle for weeks. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Until a couple of weeks ago, I had never heard of Smith Imports in Memphis. I had a Tesla Model S and wanted to move to a Mercedes SUV. I had driven a Mercedes EQE and liked it, and then discovered the EQS model. I cast about on the internet searching for EQS models and came across one at Smith Imports on S. Third St. in Memphis. Even though I grew up in Helena, AR, and had driven by there at least a thousand times going to Memphis, I had never noticed Smith Imports, a very unassuming lot. Coming from Hot Springs, as soon as I pulled in to look at their EQS I was met by one of their staff. I've been to many car dealers during my life and have been welcomed for just a minute by almost all of them. But my visit at Smith was different. From the moment I stepped out of my car I was warmly greeted and welcomed aboard. (I have to give a shout-out here to Cherish, my salesperson. She was my first contact with SI, but was on vacation when I picked up the car, and was as helpful as can be.) I was shown around first by next generation owner, Maurie Tyler, who was attending to the EQS, getting it ready to go. She immediately told me that her mother has an EQS and loves it. Maurie and I then took a short drive to acquaint me with the SUV and I found out all about her family business how much she loves it. Then, once back at the dealership, I was introduced to David Hunter, their Finance Manger, who has been with them almost from the get-go. David and I, being about the same vintage, had a great time chatting about his family and the time he has been with Andy Smith, the owner, and how the business has grown over the years. It was not your typical sit down with a car dealership finance manager. Signing the purchase docs seemed like an afterthought... i.e. oh yeah we need to sign here and here, lol. After we were done, David and I were walking out to the car and Andy himself was there to greet me. Again, not your typical dealership owner, Andy and I talked about almost everything but the car. It turned out his family once had a lake house in Hot Springs and we knew many of the same people and shared some great stories about those folks, or characters, some would say. In any case, it was a wonderful experience from start to finish and I could not say more about how happy I am with the EQS. Service and Wes is great! But sales team and the ownership/leadership of company is horrible

This is the review that I am leaving on all review sites. Seeing that my request to speak to the Owner was not taken seriously enough for me to receive a call back. So approximately 6 months ago I purchased a 2013 S550 from Smith Imports for my business of which I forked over $23K in cash money over. I was referred to Smith Imports by a repeat customer, who bragged on their overall customer service. The process of purchasing the car was pretty seamless, and no type of extended warranties were offered; which probably should have been a red flag, especially since they work on Mercedes there, but I felt pretty comfortable about the car, and went on with the purchase. Anyway, about 2 months later, I had to replace all 4 tires, of which I thought..."you know what, it's routine maintenance so I'll eat that this $1200. Then another 2 months later, the turbo starts acting up and I get a crazy code. Called Wes (who is amazingly helpful) and he diagnosed the car based on the codes, and gave me a ballpark of what it would cost, which ended up being less than what he told me, but still pushing $900.00. So in my head, I'm like "Ohhh-kkkkk, this maybe a random thing, but certainly should be the last thing for a minute!" Boy was I wrong. So Monday of this week, my wife informs me that there is a Malfunction light on the dashboard, which is related to the airpods/hydraulics system. At this point, I'm now like "now this can't just be a coincidence!!!" So, my friend that referred me to Smith's Imports happens to come by my office, and I thank him profusely for the "referral", as I let him know that "I'm either about to fork out more money or sell this car at a loss; and oh by the way I'm going to give them a pretty interesting review". My Friend says to me "Call and speak with the Owner, because he cares about his business and may offer some form of trade to buy the car back, or something to help you out". So I call this morning to speak to the Owner, and one of the salesman answers; I ask to speak to the Owner, and he asks me why. I go into the spill that my friend told me to say, and the person who answers the call says "The Owner is not here right now, but either he or I will give you a call back." I then reply, "my expectation is to hear something back before the end of the day", and the guy acknowledges and hangs up. This brings us to my follow up call 08/31/2022 around 3:40pm CST, where I call and ask to speak to the Owner again. I inform the person asking that I called earlier and wanted to know if my message had gotten to the Owner. The person who answered said "hold on" and the next voice I hear is from "David. I asked David if he was the Owner, and he said "No, the Owner is gone for the weekend, and won't be back until Tuesday!" At this point, I thanked him, disconnected the call and started to write this review. I clearly understand that "As-Is" means just that, however for a vehicle of this caliber to have pretty serious issues so soon after a purchase just doesn't sit well with me. So that being said, my advice is that if you are going to buy from Smith Imports, either make sure that you have an extended warranty of some sort, or don't buy from there. The fact that I have to get on here and spend 15 minutes accounting for my experience burns me to my soul; but hey, seeing that the people I spoke with didn't value my concern enough to tell the Owner, maybe now the Owner will see this, and question them as to why they missed out on an opportunity to at least hear from a customer....not an irate customer, but one that WAS willing to see if he'd offer something in the form of a buyback and I buy the 2015 S550 he has on the lot.....but yeeaahhh, that ship has sailed. read more

Nice inventory of mostly used Mercedes. All cars come with free CarFax report. Andy is the owner and all my dealings with him have been positive. He's up front, gives a fair price for any trade-in you may have and his vehicles are priced well below what you'd pay at Mercedes of Memphis. They offer two after market warranty companies, Easy Care and NAC; I can vouch for them both first hand. The service department is also very good and the service prices are always lower than Mercedes of Memphis. Their service department can handle pretty much anything Mercedes of Memphis can handle. I just bought my Mercedes Benz 350 ML from Smith Imports 100% off the internet with the help of Sales Associate Tommy Padget. The process was easy and I had to trust everyone there . They treated me with 1st Class respect, and made everything easy. Tommy Padget even picked up the driver from the local airport for me. I live in Fl, and am in my 60's. My friends and family were a little uneasy with me buying this car sight unseen. If I buy another car it will be from Smith Imports, and I will send them to Tommy. Dropped into the service department to schedule service at a later date . I was told they happen to have an opening for service right now if I wanted to wait. I said yes of course and I had the service done and only waited about an hour. The service manager was very courteous and professional and was honest about what service was require. This was my best car buying experience ever! I found a luxury SUV online at a great price. I called and Kayla Bunch took my call. She gave me all of the details on the car and followed up with a text that included the total price and pictures. I flew one way from Houston to Memphis. Kayla picked me up at the airport and took me to Smith Imports. I checked out the car and test drove it. It was in excellent condition and I bought it. About 10 days later, I received the title via FedEx. When I have to buy a car again, I hope they have the one I want at Smith Imports. I started looking for a particular car about a year ago. With the power of the Internets, I was able to put in exactly what I was looking for and receive updates when cars were available. When a car with the features I wanted showed up in my inbox, I quickly read the easy-to-decipher description and called Smith Imports within minutes. I spoke with a woman named Paula who was kind and patient with me and answered my (many) questions. I immediately began making arrangements to fly to Memphis. I was thankful for their airport pick up service and picking up the car was fairly quick and effortless. There was a minor misunderstanding on how a unique feature worked and the owner, Andy, was kind enough to let me use his car to get some lunch while my new car was being looked at. They even filled the gas tank for the inconvenience; I was greatly appreciative. Overall, it was very well worth the trip to purchase this car. I felt at ease and everyone there was kind and patient. I bought my 2006 330i BMW for what was supposed to be a simple tune-up which ended up costing me $2,000.00. Andy Smith, the owner never told me that he did not have the proper equipment to diagnose my car thoroughly, but only after he couldn't repair my car. He took my car into his shop knowing this but i did not learn this until the dispute with my car as was still shaking after I paid him $2000.00 and the engine light was still on. In addition, they promised to give me a 10% military discount, "thanking me for my service." Only, to later add $76.25 of it back onto the bill without my approval for a "bolt kit." Then things worsened when he accepted responsibility for not being qualified to assess my BMW; then he took my car to Midtown Motors, he says, then to Roadshow BMW both in Memphis to have them diagnose it. This further solidified the truth that he was not equipped to properly diagnose my BMW problems. He is a Mercedes guy, stay in your lane. He store sign says Imports but he needs to remove that until he gets the proper equipment for BMWs. He admitted in his letter of lies to American Express (that he took my car to other mechanics) just so that he didn't have to return the money to me. He even offered to give me all of my money back i paid for the labor which never happened. Keep in mind he took my car to two other dealerships without my permission but never provided proof that he did. Today, 7 months later my car is still shaking, the engine light is still on and he feels that he can just walk away from his offenses. Not on my watch. By the way, he tried to appease me with stating that 30 - 40% of his customers are black as if I cared. Then, had the nerve to talk to me about his conviction from God to do right by me in his texting communication with me. Those "Christians." This is not about race, its about whats right and whats wrong. I have everything in writing and his admittance that he has valued the machine that he needed to be $20,000 claiming he'll get machine. However, at this point, my car still isn't fixed. As a two time deployed U.S. Marine he has to know that I not the type to allow others to go without doing whats right. Its really silly child's play at the end of the day because all he has to do is reimburse my money and I'll remove all the bad reviews I'm processing all over the internet. I'll deal with wondering what other problems the other two stores caused. Just give me my money back! Its not worth it. He'll lose $200,000 trying to keep my $2000.00. Game on. By the way, this all started with his lying Shop Manager Veto, who could've just told me from the beginning that they couldn't do the work. Think about that as you consider this guy. DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS. If they will jack a deployed serviceman around, they car nothing about you! read more

I don't like being lied to, specially by the owner Andy, who claimed he owned many Ferraris. I bought sight unseen based on Andy's detailed description of the car which was well off. I love Smith Imports because they have amazing inventory and they are priced extremely fair. If you see a car you like and may want to buy, you better jump on it. We were in the market for a second car and were going through a few of the car sales sites and continuously saw Smith Imports results being returned so we thought we would check out their own website. Although the site is pretty simple it's filled with beautiful imports predominately late model, low mileage one owner Mercedes. From our research this dealership was hands down best pricing in at least 250 miles. My husband and I have both owned BMW's in the past so we were not completely sold yet on the Mercedes so we decided to visit the dealership with open mind. We were pleasantly surprised at not only the large inventory of beautiful slightly used cars but the staff was extraordinary. The showroom is by no means classy as you would expect for a Mercedes it's actually like two large garages with painted concrete floors but wow who cares when you're looking at them beautiful Mercedes!
