I haven't stopped at this place since they moved from downtown to their current location on Erie Boulevard. Nice collection of everything from Chef jackets and hats (Gift idea) to baking supplies. I knew I would find something I needed and I did. I purchased a perfectly sized cookie scoop, and unlike with Amazon shopping, there was a range of sizes to choose from. I also bought a small heavy duty spatula and grabbed a pound of Ethiopian coffee, freshly roasted. Prices are a little higher than Amazon, but shopping local has its own rewards. There is also an interesting section of the store selling Syracuse China items. Apparently, you can sell your Syracuse China sets to Smith's. Had a lovely time perusing the shelves. read more

Local and family owned Smith Housewares & Restaurant Supply has anything and everything you need for your kitchen. Do not get scared off by "Restaurant Supply" in its name. You will find what you need for your home kitchen as well. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable and are willing to and able to help with any questions or locating and kitchen accessories and such in their shop. The store also sharpens your non-serrated kitchen knives. An added bonus is that they will sharpen WÜSTHOF knives complimentary! Yes, there is big box stores that may carry what you may need for your kitchen but not this extensivly and with the knowledgeable staff on top of it. I just saw the store security camera video footage of Mr. Kupperman punching a customer who was a black woman in the face and neck twice before he gets her out into the parking lot, outside the range of the security camera's view. For context, she was making a return that he had approved beforehand over the phone. She went in to make the return, as planned, and he refused the return. She brought the unreturned item back to her vehicle. She had asked for the store return policy to review and this happened. In addition to viewing the attached video, I also read the police report as well as the victim's account. This is horrific, unacceptable, unsafe, and immensely unprofessional. Until proper action is taken by the store I think that the public deserves to be aware of this behavior. There is clearly a safety risk to customers when doing business here. read more

Smith's, they got what I neeeeed, Supplies for cooking And supplies for baking! ....additionally, knife sharpening. Smith's is a long established restaurant supply store that welcomes regular home cooks like myself as well. I most recently stopped in to have my kitchen knives sharpened, which is a fast and reasonable service they off. For anyone who has been recently inspired by Great British Bake Off, Smith's stocks numerous cake and tart pans, cookie cutters, and bread baking supplies. They also sell their own coffee, which is roasted on site. In the back of the store are tried and true restaurant style saute and cambro pans. As far as chef knives they primarily sell Wusthof. Overall I there is a good variety in the store and found the staff has always been pleasant. Parking is easy- there are spots right in front of the store. read more

Was hoping to be able to shop local for a cake stand and cover & maybe a set of good quality knives & a new knife block. Unfortunately we were met by an employee who was not masked (despite the mask mandate) & said he didn't have one when we asked if he could put one on. He was pretty dismissive about it. I'm immune compromised and so we had to leave. He didn't seem to care about losing a potential customer. Poor service. read more

We stopped into Smiths the afternoon to purchase replacement parts for our tap system and had an awful experience. We asked the man behind at register for some help since we didn't have any luck looking in the home brew section. To say the man at counter was rude is a gross understatement. He was very obviously irritated with the request for assistance and made it clear that they don't carry beverage supplies (yet they have a brewing section?) and that they were a restaurant store. We asked for a suggestion on where we may find the products we were looking for and were told what type of store to go to and when we asked for further information on a name of the store we were answered with an eye roll and a snarky remark about places being closed on Sundays. We had additional purchases that we wished to make at Smith's today but opted to leave instead. This isn't a 'customer is always right' rant, or a 'we will take our business elsewhere' cry... The owners and employees of Smiths should consider treating people with kindness and common courtesy be they regular customers or not. read more

First time today we stop in , it's a little confusing from outside looks very small. But from our first stop big inside and great products covering restaurant and home style supplies. Still have the coffee line which is great. And they have their own line of German cutlery line. Which I own and used for years. Stop nice experience. read more

Ordered a product from them , turned out it was not a size suitable for my stove top, called to see if it could be exchanged . The so called owner , goes by the name of John, said he will return it and give me my money back, but WILL NOT order another one for me. When I questioned him, he became belligerent, talked back with anger and told me in simple words that it's his store and he can do what he wants.. this was done with anger and in called fir antagonism which both shocked and surprised me as I had not said anything rude to him , except for asking the reason why I couldn't place another order.. I was talked down to and disrespected.. just by the demeanor and exceptional anger.. totally uncalled for ! When I went to give back the item the clerk in the store told me,?and I quote" will you take back the bad review you wrote"? Because if you don't I won't return the wok" unquote To which I said , " Absolutely not" it was a true review. Also asked her if she was blackmailing me?Then John turned up by then and threatened to check the review. ! All the while this clerk had the audacity to ask him" Do you want me to show her out?" I'm not saying a anything to bring in such a comment from her! And then he said , and I quote"You're a piece of work!" That audacious remark was the last insult to my person.. I picked up the product and walked out the store.. I've never ever been so disrespected or felt insulted before.. it has not only caused me anxiety , but saddened me as to how a business can treat a customer so unprofessional and get away with it.. We visited for the first time since moving to 'Cuse a couple of weeks ago. Love! We could have spent all day here, so much to take in. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will be regular visitors and patrons , this is going to definitely be one of our go-tos for all our culinary needs and wants. We live to cook and love to eat, and Smith's will take care of both! Especially was impressed with their knife section, their knife sharpening service. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Currently my go to place in Syracuse or fresh coffee. Great selection and i haven't been disappointed yet. Very fresh too. I have bought whole bean from all the local rosters in Syracuse, and put their coffee right at the top. Definitely worth a try and a pound. Currently drinking their Kilimanjaro dark roast. Excellent with an excellent bloom in my pourovers. read more

I was a little concerned about ordering from a company with only one review, but the price on my Le Creuset Dutch oven was so good I decided to give it a try and hope for the best. It showed up two days later and perfect! Brand new in the box. Hurrah! read more

Thus far I am extremely unsatisfied with this place. I ordered bouillon cups on march 15. My card has been charged and I have received an email confirming my order; however, I have not received the product, have not gotten a shipping confirmation, nor have I gotten a response from the company after I have contacted them Im every way possible. I will never order from these guys again. read more
