If you're looking to buy a boat from this place... RUN AWAY FAST. I spent over 4 and half hours driving from Pittsburgh PA to go look at a Malibu VLX that I was told up and down didn't have any hull damage from a salesman named DANNIE. I asked 5-7 times on the phone if he had put his eyes on the boat and he said and I quote "we don't take in anything even with spider cracks". Upon getting there I saw the damage and Dannie scratched the back of his head and goes "guess I didn't see that". Sure.... As you can see in the photos it was clearly damaged. He then said "I'll fix it" and "well I'll knock off 1,000$" like that's not the point there was damage done to the fiberglass. He then proceeded to argue with me over it's a 20 year old boat it's not gonna be perfect... typical used car salesmen with shady tactics. Stay away from this place. I caught DANNIE in multiple lies. One with the gelcoat, then with the hours of the boat he said and I quote "it's got between 400-500 hours, but definitely nothing over 500" it was 511.... Not a crazy difference but still a lie. Then the back story behind the boat when I got there he all of sudden didn't know much since "someone else took it in on trade" all of a sudden.. STAY AWAY from this place. Can't even imagine what they are hiding about these boats if they lie about the smallest of things and waste peoples time like they did mine. Long story short don't trust this shady boat marina. read more

We rented a pontoon on Canandaigua Lake and Smith Boys was easy to deal with, had quick service, boat was clean and in good shape - worked perfectly. Shannon at the front desk and that answers the phone is super helpful and knows all you need. Definitely rent from where or use them for whatever your needs are - especially if you're in the south end of the lake. read more

We have rented a boat two years in a row and have had bad experiences both times (we forgot the name of the marina we rented from last year or otherwise we would not have gone back!). Both years, we were told a later return time when we booked on the phone. When we arrived, they told us an earlier return time and claim "we are not sure why the person on the phone would have told you that...it has always been this time." The owner, who is incredibly rude, said "take it or leave it." Interestingly, the staff told us the time has "always been 5:00 pm," but we were told 4:30 when we checked in. Last year, my daughter cut her leg on the ladder of the boat early in the day, and the owner told us he would not provide us with a refund or a rebooking date. We had to call an ambulance, and I had to leave to go take her to get stitches in Geneseo. When I told the owner we had to leave to get stitches, he rolled his eyes. The staff that assists with the boats are very nice and helpful, and I feel bad that they have to work for this man. Please note, the owner also does not wear a mask, which is required by NYS businesses during the COVID pandemic. read more

I just felt I needed to write this bc my experience at Smith Bros was very different from the others here. I rented a boat from them last year and will again this year. I have found them to be easy to work with, accommodating, and pleasant. The boats we have received from them are late model boats and are very clean. They will even blow up your tube for you if you bring it when you pick up the boat. They have not tried to allege damage to the boat upon return. I've been very pleased, especially after a HORRIBLE experience with the other marina on this lake. I recommend them highly. read more

I was told I was able to get a boat slip and purchased a boat on the promise of getting the slip. After we decided not to purchase the overpriced trailer at from CHRIS PORTER ( THE MANAGER) . He informed us that we could not have the slip then anymore. Said it was a POLICY read more

HORRENDOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE!do NOT rent here there is a nice Marina just a mile up the road Leisure time Marina. Our boat stalled twice leaving my family stranded on the Lake, we were told our gas would be expenses for the week and never happened!the owner Jon is the rudest most ignorant man I have ever encountered. no apology and stated "all you renters are the same one little mishap and you come begging for your money back"!!!! We spent nearly 2k dollars for the whole week rental and not even a tank of gas was given as compensation for a faulty boat. Smith Boys double booked my boat rental and called (2 weeks before our rental) to tell me we only had it for 2 1/2 days instead of a week. They offered NO reduction in daily rental payment and gave us no other boat options. John Jansen was extremely rude and basically said "take it or leave it". No fuel credit, NO COMPENSATION whatsoever. He didn't even go out of his way to find another boat at another marina. This is a family vacation that was planned carefully. We had the boat and cottage and thought we were all set. Then this happens and I'm out of a boat with kids who want to tube and water ski. I've never been spoken to or treated so terribly by a business owner. He even said he wasn't going to give us our deposit back. What?!?! Luckily Sharon (who works there) was kind and understanding and refunded our deposit. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. John Jansen is rude and inconsiderate. read more

DON'T RENT A BOAT FROM THESE GUYS!!! We were warned about them but decided to go ahead and use them anyway...big mistake, they played the exact same trick on us as they did to our friends and there was nothing we could do about it. Everything is great until you return the equipment when it becomes like a perfectly rehearsed play. There is a scratch on the boat and it is going to cost you x amount. Even though the existing scratches are recorded they will say this is a new one and has to be sanded out. Sure, they say, everyone says we did't touch anything but the scratches just appear by themselves. The fact that this has played out twice now in very similar circumstances is no coincidence. We got suckered, don't do it, use someone else who won't try and make an extra few bucks out of you. The equipment was good, the staff were friendly when we were taking the boat out, but that totally changed on the return. If you use them, be prepared for the extra hidden costs they will lay on you. read more

Prices for boat rentals are too high. There are no half day rentals on the weekends. No renting tubes only additional costs to purchase. In addition to the full day rental fee there is a non-refundable fee of close to $200. I found other boat rentals with ENTIRE rental costs less than the Smith Boys $200 nonrefundable fee. This place is a rip off for boat rentals I'd recommend continuing your search. read more
