Easy painless process, impressed with my results! I booked a 30-min pro flash directly through the Smiling Bright website with an end of year deal, and booked my appointment for a few weeks later. David called me before my appointment and let me know I was welcome to come a bit earlier since they had availability, which was perfect. When I arrived, David was super friendly and knowledgeable, and walked me through the process. I didn't need much convincing to tack on another 30 minutes for an hour total, and I'm glad I did because I had much better results at the 60 minute mark than I did after 30. And so far no sensitivity afterward which I was worried about! You apply vitamin E to protect your gum and lips, and hydrogen peroxide to your teeth yourself, then you chill for 30 minutes at a time. I (occasionally) enjoy being alone with my thoughts, so I enjoyed the time and thought it passed quickly. David had some good tunes going too. The space is nice looking and clean, good vibes. Came in here from a groupon ($179 I believe?) for a 60 minute pro white flash treatment. I have never really done teeth whitening before but since this was the highest tier you could purchase, I was pretty excited to have it done. When I arrived, David was SO kind. The place is not a dentist's office, it looks like there are just a few rooms solely for teeth whitening. He was very friendly and walked me through swabbing my gums/lips with Vitamin E to avoid the sensitivity of the whitening solution. It goes in 2-30 minute segments, with a break in between. You use a mouth retractor and a blue light, and definitely drool more than I can say. David was very attentive, coming in consistently, checking on my comfort, giving me paper towels for drool, adjusting the light, etc. His customer service is second-to-none, which is why I leave 3 stars. At the half hour mark when I went to the bathroom, I really noticed no difference. I was pretty disappointed to say the least, as that had been nearly $100 of whitening right there. After the second half hour, I was extremely disappointed. I thought the results were supposed to be immediate, but I honestly wasn't sure I saw a difference. David praised how many shades whiter my teeth were, so I smiled because I was like "Hm, he must know better than I! I'm sure I'll notice when I get home and compare before and after pics." On my way out, he offered me a today-only type of offer to secure future whitening packages. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't sold on it. The process had been uncomfortable and I really still didn't see any results. I know the whitening sessions are apparently valued at $300-500 or something, and he was offering me $179 or something similar for future sessions, but I really couldn't bring myself to seal that deal at that time. It's a lot of money for a student like myself, and this had already been a pretty big splurge for me.. I politely declined and then he made me a subsequent offer, which made me a little stressed out, but I also declined again. I informed him I needed to wait and see how I liked these results and also to see if I had any sensitivity. He assured me up and down I would have no sensitivity. I politely declined and excused myself. I will say, as the day went on, I DID, in fact, have sensitivity. I don't know if that's because I was rushed (he was standing right there) for the second half when I applied the Vitamin E to my gums? But I definitely had discomfort in my gums so that was a bit stressful and I am glad I did not purchase subsequent sessions. At the end of the day, I took a before and after in the same lighting in my room (will post soon), and really I cannot notice a difference. Maybe .5 shade at most? David reassured me after the first 30 minutes that I was 3-4 shades lighter, and I really don't believe that's true. I think it's likely something he says to everyone to hopefully support business and sales. I will post the before and after pics when I have time later today to show you what I mean.. Overall, for the price, and relative discomfort, I was a bit disappointed.. I am so happy I found this wonderful place on Groupon and actually USED IT! (Shhh! I don't always use my Groupons. Lol) David was witty, charming, funny and checked on the clients constantly. Although he offered to leave you alone if you were napping. He explained everything for this newbie. Upgraded me to the easier and better package for the difference in price. (I didn't know the difference so just bought the middle of the road package.) He even warned of how to sit down in the comfy chairs so you won't plop unceremoniously. I've never done any teeth whitening before so it was all very reassuring. The office is tastefully decorated. With purple accented walls. Ummmm...have I ever mentioned how much I love purple?? Anyhow, it's a little taxing at first to put that mouth stretcher in but you get used to it after a while. The session is split into two periods to give you a rest in between. Onto my teeth. I purchased their Groupon a couple of years ago because I wanted better results compared to what I had achieved in the past via a custom retainer and gel offered by my dentist. My dentist changed the gel formula I had used in previous years by decreasing the maximum application time and the results were disappointing. I was delightfully surprised at the immediate results after just an one hour Smile Bright service and have been a devoted customer since then. Why: 1. David was very friendly and gracious - seems he gives everyone an 'upgrade' to Proflash, which according to his pricing chart is about $300 more than regular whitening (60 mins). He assisted me through the process of preparing myself before the lightening: Step 1) Swab gums with vitamin-e filled qtip. Make sure you place heavy coating particularly root of your teeth and inner lip. Step 2) Place plastic retractor in your mouth. Relax your cheeks and let it do its job. Step 3) He's going to show you how to use the whitening gel pen. I bought the 60 min option. It's broken down into 2 30 min sessions. My experience: The first 30 mins, I didn't have a problem with gum-burn, but the next 30 burnt a couple spots. Unfortunately for me, I couldn't tell much difference with results. With the Proflash, David said, I would be able to go up to 3-4 shades lighter (showing me the hues of teeth-model). He praised how white my teeth became, but I was visibly disappointed. My initial shade was in the upper quadrant of the scale, so maybe that's why I can't see a drastic change, but on the color scale, 2-3 shades whiter was definitely a stark contrast from my current shade. I have been to Smiling Bright twice, both times with a Groupon. David (who I assume is the owner) is very nice, tries to make sure you're as comfortable as you can be with a giant plastic device in your mouth, and sort of reminds me of a combination of my dad and Jay Leno. My teeth aren't very yellow to begin with, and this last time I was mostly just looking for a little pop for my brother's upcoming wedding. After the treatment, which David said he was upgrading me to at no cost, I could see a difference for sure, albeit there were little white spots that I have never seen before. David explained that they are calcium and are simply a part of my teeth, and that the stains that had been there were covering them up. Not exactly a desired result, but certainly not his fault. The reason I am giving this three stars is because of his hard selling tactics that he used at the end. As a former Groupon employee (please, don't kill me) I know that businesses will often try to sell their products to make more profit off of customers using a deal. Totally fine and expected. But David made me feel very uncomfortable when he was trying to sell to me. After politely declining his initial offer of a discounted package, he slashed the price (literally, on a piece of paper) that he initially offered, saying he would cut me a further deal. Okay cool, but why wouldn't you offer that up front? Are there people that kindly accept the first offer thinking that they are really getting a deal only to really not have gotten the greatest discount? I politely declined again, to which he replied "You're killin' me!" and then slashed the price again. Of course I fumbled for a polite way to decline a third time, and thanked him for taking care of me. He gave me an angry look and said "Well then we're done." I told him to have a nice weekend and he stared at me without a reply and walked away. I can see a little bit of change, but not much and it definitely did not do anything for the teeth on the side, which I was hoping it would. What a great experience! I got a deal off of Groupon here for 60 minute basic teeth whitening and wasn't sure what to expect as I'd Only used at home white strips. They explained the entire process step by step and made me feel comfortable. Once I got there, without me even asking, they upgraded me to the best flash pro whitening product! To top it off, you do your 60 minute session in two sessions (one right after another) of 30 minutes and they extended each time to 40 minutes giving me 20 additional minutes under the UV light for free. Went back for a 1 hour Pro Flash treatment a week before my wedding! Great results. My teeth are 4 shades lighter! The Pro Flash is much less messy and just an overall more comfortable process than the other basic whitening treatment. The gel goes directly on your teeth instead of the trays. Easy! I went to smiling bright right before my wedding. I went to the website and saw they had "daily specials" for last minute openings, that weren't booked. I booked my "last minute" deal over the phone. The customer service rep was wonderful, informative and very upbeat. Upon arrival I was able to find metered parking right in front. I was very excited about this! The process was painless and quite fun because I had my fun and light hearted teenager with me. The owner was great! He offered me the "Pro Flash" for free...imagine that! I was grateful and honored that he would do that for me. The problem I had was that I literally noticed no change in my teeth. He did mention before he started that my teeth already "looked pretty good." My daughter swore my teeth were way brighter (2 shades) and so did the owner. Without my daughters co-sign I would have been pretty skeptical. My wedding was only 48 hours away...so maybe I was a little too overwhelmed to see the beautiful teeth, they now described. ;) Overall 5 star service, but 4 start teeth. Update on last visit. So on the last visit, I noticed maybe a 2 shade difference. I had been doing some at home teeth whitening at the time so maybe this is why I didn't see as much of a difference. I came in today about 6 months later for a 2nd visit. Since my last visit, I've continued to drink coffee and wine. I have NOT been using any of my normal teeth whitening routine aside from a toothpaste that states that is whitening. FAIL!!!! BUYER BEWARE!! I just made a yelp! profile to leave this comment. There really should be a negative star for ratings. I'd purchased an $89/1 hr. brightening for Smiling Bright from Groupon and SET AN APPOINTMENT on Monday, for today(Thursday). Because I work, I'd prepared my workload earlier in the week to make today's appointment. When I saw "Chief Smiling Bright" at the counter, he informed me there was no appointment on the books, as he took my phone and labeled the Groupon as "Used". Then he proceeded to tell me there was nothing available until next week...I'm out of town for 2 weeks and in a wedding(which is WHY I was getting the service). I contacted Groupon and because he changed the groupon to "used"...guess what , I DON'T GET MONEY BACK. I asked if I could be fit in, or if they could help me out some way, since the sign on the door says "Walk-ins welcome, Appointments Guaranteed," and he said NO...but maybe someone will cancel. Uh, this os YOUR fault, not mine and I won't rearrange ANOTHER day, so that I MIGHT get an opening. The "Chief Smiling Bright" is the most lethargic, apathetic person I've met in Chicago. The owner is a nice guy. However, the customer does everything. I applied the chemical (the secret item to whiten your teeth) on my teeth with a brush. I guess i expected him to do it .....compared to a dentist. My teeth were lighter. I did 60 minutes. However, i didn't like the multiple signs that said "tips greatly appreciated"....You're already paying a good amount for the service, all he does is turn on a lamp and check the timer. Let me address your response, Kimberly. NO...we were not willing to pay you $50 for something that DAVID promised did not expire. SO glad that you were finally able to find a record of our visit, as you mention we were there 2/26/11 (David insisted that we had not been there because he could not find a record of our visit, but he COULD see that we DID purchase an at home treatment.) Not sure how your comment about being effective yet not having been whitened recently connects, but let me explain that the process just made no difference in the whiteness of our teeth! You say honor on a "case to case basis"...does that mean that someone else might have received a different outcome? Guess your computer tracking system wasn't working that day since David insisted to my son (I could hear him while talking to my son on the phone, and later in a phone call to me), that he could NOT find our appointment in your system. Again, I repeat, he could only find record of our purchase of a home treatment. I did NOT schedule a treatment later that day, Kimberly. I scheduled my treatment at the same time I scheduled my son's, for different days. David contacted me after my son (angrily) left the store, saying he would write a Yelp review. He offered for my son to come back in an hour! Really? Like he was just waiting around to come back to this place? David then, told me to have my son reschedule "whenever".
