They try to force unnecessary procedures on their elderly patients and bully them when they are resistant. The so called office manager/receptionist and hygienist are the ones that determine the treatment plan without the doctor first assessing and then recommending a treatment plan. They claim that they do procedures when they did not. This is fraud.

That the adult ones were being used by the other person. It took a very long time for these X-rays to be taken and the top of my mouth was all cut up. I had spots that were swollen on the roof of my mouth. Fast forward to today.. the office manager, shayna, called and told me what my insurance was covering. She said that insurance requested more photos of the main tooth that the filling fell out of and I needed to go in for another appointment for the X-rays. All the time it took for the last photos it's beyond me that they need more. So, I told her it was upsetting because this tooth really needs to be fixed and I asked if the reason why the photos weren't approved is because the lady doing the X-rays was using the wrong size things to take the photos. She cut me off mid conversation and proceeded to tell me she didn't have to do what she was doing and try to help me get insurance approval that I could do it myself. I told her I appreciated what she was doing but, I just wanted to know if that's why because it's not cool that I'm having to go in again to have more photos taken when I just had a bunch taken. And quite frankly, I don't want more done by them because it hurt my mouth so bad. I got off the phone with her and decided to make an appt elsewhere. As soon as I was getting ready to call her back to tell her I wasn't going to come back there because of how rude she was and the experience I had she called and said that after speaking with the dentist they think it's best that I don't come back there. I said ma'am, I was about to call and tell you I made an appointment elsewhere anyways because of how rude you are. For her to be an office manager, she is extremely rude and unprofessional.

Not super thrilled with the quality (after a few months, it still doesn't feel "natural" like some of the better crowns I've had), but functionally it gets the job done. My big gripe here is with their billing and their inability or willingness to hold themselves accountable for unacceptable billing practices. They gave me a "good faith estimate" on my crown that I paid up front, having already had all of my insurance information, but apparently quoted me as though I were in-network when they knew I was not (their words). I agreed to the work thinking it would cost around $900. (Paid in advance of service.) A few weeks after my crown, I got a bill for over $800. Turns out I was NOT in-network. When I discovered this and confronted the office manager with the information, I just received excuses: "it's not our fault you didn't know you were out-of-network", "we only gave you an estimate", "we made no mistakes", etc. Clearly mistakes were made. I was billed nearly double what they said it would cost when I agreed to the service and they refused to take any accountability. I would obviously have shopped around before agreeing to almost double that initial quote if I had known in advance it would be that expensive. After my initial discussion with the office manager, I was told she would call back about my proposed resolution. I've called back twice since, and have not been able to get ahold of her. This has ultimately led to me filing a complaint with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. Will update this review with a resolution.

She had great conversations, which took my mind off being nervous and it helped so much. Also she was super knowledgeable and explained everything each step of the way in depth. I also really loved the doctor. He Just had an ease about him and explained everything with no judgement. And Answered all my questions. I even thought the girls as I was checking out were super friendly and seemed actually happy to be at their job. Nowadays that's very rare. Again overall awesome experience. I will absolutely be suggesting to others. Thank you guys!

I know that Dr. Vu does. A year ago, I began looking for a dentist that accepted by new dental plan. I also wanted something close to my home in Inglewood. I had been steered toward another office, but I found the website and mentioned it to a co-worker. She immediately began telling me how she could not say enough good things about Dr. Rick Vu and the ladies in the Inglewood office, and how great they are. Great???? Let me be upfront here. I hate dentists, or a least I did until I came to 5-Star Dental. I have an extreme phobia of being in a dental chair, for very legitimate reasons that I will not go into here. So, I made my appointment for a Friday mid-morning, because they are only in the Inglewood office on Thursdays and 1/2 day Fridays. When I got there, I explained my phobia and history with crappy dentists, and I was immediately made to feel as comfortable as possible. I had made the appointment for a damaged molar that I thought would require a crown, but the tooth could not be repaired and had to be pulled. The appointment had been for a consult only, but they immediately moved me to the next room and made the preparations for extraction. All went well, and I didn't feel a thing. They sent me home with instructions on how to care for it and to call them with any issues. I have been back since for other procedures, and I am now one of those who can't say enough good things about Dr. Rick Vu and his employees. My partner was seeing a dentist in the Green Hills area who kept giving him a clean bill of health, but one Monday night, half of a tooth popped off while flossing. His dentist couldn't get him in for two weeks, but Dr. Vu fit him in that Thursday. During the preliminary x-rays discovered that the tooth had been cracked for a while and also found two cavities that should have been evident at his other dentist. My partner has since made the switch to 5-Star Dental as well. The staff is friendly, informative, and most importantly, extremely competent. I gave them 4 out of 5 stars because although it's a casual, comforting atmosphere, each exam area is not entirely private.

After neglecting to go for a couple years and a change in insurance, I decided now was the time. From my immediate phone call with Brigette, I knew I was in good hands. She was thorough, calming, and informative. No hidden anything. During my visit today, I was greeted with many pleasant faces and attitudes. Bree, my hygienist, was thorough and covered all necessary points and explained everything before completing it. Dr. Montee was probably the first dentist that I've not been intimidated or scared of. Usually when the dentist walks in, it's just to state the negative and that's it. She was wonderful! And explained everything to me in a way that was going to improve my behaviors instead of knock me down. All pricing was laid out for me and agreed to before any work was to be done. Not sure what changed, but I had a string of not great experiences, and then no follow up from management : At that time, I usually let my dr/physicians know that my employer issued Blue Cross of Michigan, because they were based out of Michigan, but it was never an issue- I just made sure to clarify because BC of TN would be more typical. Per usual, I had explained that to them when I gave them my card after my first visit, they kind of waved me off and assured me they would pick up on it. I had been going for about a year when this happened: The suites aren't actual rooms- it's just open. I was full reclined in a chair with a mouthpiece holding my mouth wide for an exam, when one of the admin stomped through the suites and kind of whisper-shouted (if you know, you know) that I wasn't getting any care that day until I resolved my balance- , and proceeded to let me and the two patients next to me know ('you owe us like $1400'). I kind of wiggled to get the mouthguard speakable, and asked if they had billed my insurance (I had routine checkups and some fillings, all of which was 100% covered)- she said I didn't have any insurance on file- so I sat up and grabbed my wallet to give her my card. She probably realized the error then and there, but she just kind of snorted and stormed off. I sat back on the chair, it was pretty embarrassing - I would think they could find a better place to bring up an issue if they saw one. I had never missed a call from them about billing or anything else. There was no acknowledgment/ apology for their error, but the experience was so uncomfortable that I just kind of shrugged it off, and figured that admin wouldn't be there much longer. I know it's frustrating to make mistakes, but that was so really poorly handled- and really wasn't something I had any control over. I started noticing a change- the work seemed a little less careful (walked away with some pokes), but I was done after the last incident. I called to reschedule my appointment (I had just started a new job, and my insurance had changed) and the conversation somehow ended in them hanging up on me. This was after arguing to keep the appointment, I had to explain that I wasn't sure that my new employer's insurance even covered them, so either way I probably shouldn't be keeping that appointment to risk paying out of network- the lady just hung up. Since then, I found out they are in-network, but I didn't want to go back until I figured out what had changed management-wise. I sent them an email via their website under their 'feedback' contact, and responded to their review emails... but you can decided for yourself whether that was effective. I've included my original email verbatim and their response. I gave up- but hopefully they can use this review to improve service for future patients, or maybe just have a conversation about privacy -------------------- (see images for the email I sent to management following all of this, and their reply).

Since moving to the East side of the city, I have been putting off finding a dentist and honestly only discovered ENF out of necessity and panic due to a broken crown. But what was a not so great moment turned into a great find and a new dentist! And oddly enough, they are located right beside my PT office, so it seems like a weird destiny based thing...and all it took was my 20+ year old crown to break on a turkey meatball on a Thursday afternoon. I am super thankful for the staff and Doctors here! I called at 12pm on a Thursday afternoon looking for a dentist to help with a cracked crown. I was not expecting much as I would be a new patient, so I knew there would be a process of getting in. I had a trip in a few days and would be away for over a week, so I was really hoping for immediate help, but was also ready to cancel my trip if needed. Well, the team at ENF got me in within 2 hours and had a temporary crown in place within 3.5 hours of my initial call. INSANE! Not only did they squeeze me in as a new patient, they were PHENOMENAL from the phone call to check-in to services performed to check out and beyond. Legit the most helpful, kind and friendly group of folks I have ever encountered at a dental office. I now have a follow up for my permanent, and have established the ENF team as my go-to dental spot moving forward. Overall, never thought I would be excited about having a Dentist again...but here I am!
