The staff was nice, but my experience was very disappointing. It was rushed and I was numbed before the Dentist diagnosed my problem. I ended up having to go home with a numb mouth with no work completed. I will not be coming back to get my crown work completed. :( read more

My entire family visited this practice beginning in 2017 when we moved to this side of Nashville and wanted to find a dentist close by. Initially all of us saw Dr Scott Rachels. We established care and everything went pretty well. My daughter and I received routine care while my husband had more invasive dental procedures. In early 2018 I cracked a tooth and was freaking out about it. Dr Rachels fit me in quickly, and fit a temporary crown. I later returned for the permanent one. No big issues. So why one star? Since 4/9/19 after my appointment with a hygienist here, I have been through complete hell with zero response or support from this office. This on despite of calling, sending emails, and even having my PCP reach out to them. They guaranteed her they would absolutely call me by he end of that day. Nothing. I have heard absolutely nothing from anyone in that office. What happened? In about March I had some sensitivity in one tooth and was afraid it had cracked. I went in, scheduled quickly as usual, and found Dr Rachels was no longer with the group-he'd moved on to private practice. A young female dentist tapped around in my mouth and said everything looked good. I said-last time I saw the dentist here, he recommended a cleaning and I was between insurances by the time I was scheduled to have this done. Can I schedule this now or do I need a dental exam first? She told me to go ahead and schedule the cleaning. She then had the hygienist come and check my mouth for the type of cleaning I needed. (Btw in the state of TN a hygienist may only asses and make a recommendation to a dentist who must make the actual determination of what type of cleaning you need. You also, in this state, must've had a dental exam by the dentist within 11 months prior to the cleaning. This is all information I've gotten since) The hygienist told me I needed a deep scaling. I told her-Dr Rachels had recommended the less invasive cleaning. The hygienist disagreed and impatiently answered my questions. I tried to be understanding it was the end of a workday. So I said...ok, if that's what I need. I'd never had this type of cleaning before. She told me it had to be done in quadrants and could take 2-4 appointments-but felt like mine would only take 2. Great I thought-2's better than 4! (I also later learned that dental groups like this one have a reputation for what I would consider predatory practice and frequently recommend more invasive than needed procedures for folks with insurance). I scheduled the first appointment and reviewed the payment plan with the receptionist. Morning of April 9th, I show up on time. I'm the first patient-woo hoo! I receive an hour long 2 quadrant (upper teeth) deep scaling and then continue to sit for a measurement of my gum pockets. They call this periodontal probing. The hygienist was nice enough but never offered me a bite block. I didn't know to ask, i am not a dental professional. I schedule my next appointment, pay 200$ and leave. The next few days I experienced this progressive discomfort in my jaws. They felt, tense? It's hard to explain. By the end of the week my jaw was locking up and causing me to panic. I ended up in the ED ( that's a new term for ER). My sweet mother, looking after her adult child, called southeastern for me and said hey guys, here's what's going on, should she come see you or continue to wait in the ED? They told her I should wait to be seen in the ED. Well-they suspected TMJ (and no-I have no history of TMJ). They gave an injection of a strong NSAID and rx for muscle relaxers and Ibu & advises f/u wi h my PCP. Ok... I can do all that.... So I did all that. Fast forward to June 1st. I've seen my PCP 3 times for the same issue. Tried all kinds of care plans, even had my PCP speak directly to Southeastern who assured her on the call that they would reach out. In the interim, I sent emails through their website about the issue as well. I have now lost 25 pounds, continue to suffer from physics issues that not only take away from my quality of life, but put things like my career and ability to care for my family in jeopardy. I have an appointment with an oral surgeon for consult in early July & still to this day have had no one reach out from Southeastern dental. I am a nurse of 15 years and a Nashville native. I care for marginalized people in our community. People that need a liaison to navigate this crazy world of healthcare. After having my dental folks review my care with Southeastern dental, I have no doubt in my mind that I not only did not need this invasive procedure, but also was treated with complete negligence in terms of follow up. I've been going to southeastern dental for more than 20 years. They are friendly, caring and practical. I feel like I get great quality care without excessive or unnecessary treatments. My wife can schedule a birthday party with her smart-phone while receiving a root canal. I, on the other hand, tend to get weak knees when I hear car brakes that even slightly resemble the sound of a dental drill. In other words, I have heightened anxiety when it comes to the subject of dentistry. Recently, I was forced to recognize the importance of the dental profession when I took a bite of a walnut salad and, in the process, dismissed half a molar. With much trepidation, I scheduled an appointment with Dr Amber Johnson at Southeastern Dental in hopes that she could remedy the problem quickly and efficiently. It had been quite some time since I had been to the dentist, and I was pretty nervous about what other strange anomalies might be lurking in my mouth. Fortunately, Dr Johnson very quickly put me at ease, and informed me that I would require a crown for the broken tooth and an additional filling. I psyched myself up for the inevitable pain of the dental work I was going to receive on my return visit, and I came back prepared to endure. To my surprise, there was literally no pain whatsoever. Even the Novocaine shots were completely painless, and there was zero pain involved with neither the drilling for the cavity, nor the grinding for the crown. The procedure, I must say, did take a considerable amount of time, but the lost time was negated by the conversation with the pleasant staff (Darcy, in particular, and we won't hold her poor math skills against her). The most surprising thing of all is that, after all was said and done, I didn't even have to take so much as an aspirin to recover. Literally ... zero pain. As for cost, I do not know what to compare as I haven't had a lot of dental work done, but I have heard horror stories about dental expense. I was pleasantly surprised with the charges for my procedure, and consider this expense well worth the price to eliminate half a tooth-worth of pain. Conclusion? I will go back again, and I will be a more compliant patient next time (6 month checkups, fluoride mouth-rinse, etc.). I was going to be a new patient today and yesterday when I was setting up my appointment, I wanted to make sure that this place was following covid-19 safety protocols so I spent about 10 or 15 minutes on the phone ensuring that they enforced their Mask policy. Upon arrival I was given a clipboard and told to sit down so I did and I started filling out paperwork and then a man came in without a mask on and they started talking to him and it took him about 2 minutes to finally ask him if he had a mask and that's okay, but right after that I saw a lady clocking out of her shift walking from behind the register without a mask on walking right past all of us patients in the waiting room. I have a pre-existing condition and covid-19 will probably kill me if I catch it. This place does not care about covid-19 or you they just want your money and they will lie and say they do care when they don't clearly or that employee would have had a mask on. read more

While the dentist is nice, I had a crown done in 2012. Flash forward two years later and you can see the separation between crown and gum. They did a terrible job and I'm back to the start with dental work. read more

If you have DMO dental insurance don't go here. They will give you limited services and still bill your insurance. The dentist did not even look in my mouth and told me I needed 3 crowns. Then he billed my insurance for an extensive exam fee. The hygienist barely cleaned my teeth. Beware!!! read more
