After receiving that, a coworker recommended Southridge Dental & Dr. Dunson, and I have been a patient there ever since. I did not disclose that another dentist had recommended all that work at my first visit, and Dr. Dunson did not assign me a laundry list of procedures, which was my first sign he was an ethical practitioner. He takes a conservative approach to dental work, opting to keep an eye on potential issues rather than immediately resorting to fillings or root canals. Now, I have recommended them to countless folks. My husband sees them too. Andrea and Lisa are the two hygienists/dental assistants I see the most at my cleanings, and they are both amazing. They have been there a long time (Andrea, since I've been a patient; I still remember these bedazzled safety glasses she used to wear many years back!) Rounding out the team are Carol and Shannon in the office. Carol greets you at the front desk, schedules your appointments, and always calls the day before your appointment with a friendly check-in. Shannon handles the billing, and she explains everything very clearly. Their office is run very efficiently. I am rarely waiting in the lobby long enough to even sit down! After the hygienist or assistant finishes your cleaning and any x-rays, Dr. Dunson is there within a minute or two to check everything out and give you an overview of any potential issues he's noticing. (He hums along to the music while he's working, which is always entertaining! I can relate, I do this too.) I haven't needed much dental work, but in the event of a necessary filling, Dr. Dunson handles the procedure kindly and compassionately. I don't love getting a shot of Novocain (who does??), but he and the staff are always so understanding and encouraging through the process. I cannot recommend Southridge Dental enough. They are an independent operation, which I prefer over the influx of corporately owned dental offices flooding the area. They are kind folks who genuinely care about the health of your teeth and giving excellent care.

I was very nervous about the entire process, but especially since I haven't been in so long. I worried I would be made to feel terrible about neglecting my teeth. Instead, everyone was extremely nice to me. No one made me feel bad about how long it's been and everyone went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable and knew what was going on. It wasn't the traumatic experience I had as a kid at all. I had to get a deep cleaning done over two appointments and my hygienist and her assistant were top notch. Again, didn't make me feel embarrassed about the state of my teeth or how long it has been. I didn't have any cavities and everything went really well! I got to speak to or otherwise interact with 3 of the dentists there and really liked 2 of them. I didn't dislike the 3rd, he just felt a little less experienced. Pricing was good here as well.

I've been going for around 5 years and I've never had a complaint. I've never needed major dental work because I take care of my teeth and brush and floss, so maybe my experience would be different if I needed some sort of surgery or filling. But I've gone for cleanings and X-rays twice a year and had a night guard made. I don't spend much time with the dentist and can not comment on her personality (but I DO at least know her name is Dr. Caffey, unlike someone with a negative complaint below). But everyone in the office has always been courteous and been a big help when I needed to change an appointment. And I almost always have the same hygienist who is friendly and efficient when it comes to cleaning my teeth, taking X-Rays, and getting me out and on my way.

She used the old traditional type of film X-rays and told me that I needed a root canal before clearance could be given. After I got the root canal, Dr. Earl processed the dental clearance and was eager to install a crown, but I was further diagnosed by another dentist and oral surgeon using panoramic X-rays that I had a bone spur in my left gum causing a great deal of tongue irritation, a large cyst surrounding a wisdom tooth in my right jaw, and the tooth that just got the root canal needed to be extracted. These additional items needed to be addressed before dental clearance could be given and were completely missed by Dr. Earl. I repeat, completely missed by Dr Earl. After several trips to the new dentist, oral surgeon, University Hospital and Southwest Medical Center, all items were properly addressed and accurate dental clearance was properly granted. I got my first bone strengthening infusion last week. I won't go into detail about My son getting a serious infection from a root canal performed in their office. They resolved the issue on their part by saying that he needed to go to the E.R. A trip to a reputable oral surgeon treated my son and ended the issue by the doctor sending a letter of reprimand to their office. I won't go into detail about convincing my dementia burdened wife she needed a new denture; she could have been convinced to buy the Brooklyn Bridge. She never lived to pick it up. I won't go into detail about having to return three times over a two week period for them to totally extract a molar, not even counting the number of X-rays they took which was needed to convince them pieces still remained. As a result of all the above, I have switched dentists and would not recommend Dr. Earl for anything but simple cosmetic dentistry.

My only complaint would be the Ice water rinse after the application of the polishing agent. Although it was cold, it was refreshing and I left alert and more aware of my surroundings than when I arrived. Dr Tenney did his usual gentle probing inspection afterward and found no cavities. Of course there was no "up-sale" for whitening programs, and whatever might be the latest money making "ad on's" that most dental offices hit you with. Just the usual and customary plastic bag with a new toothbrush, travel paste and plastic flossing tools. By the way, there are now 4 hygienist and several receptionist and Dr Tenney. Was told that they took it and I would only have to pay $50 deposit which would be deducted from my co-pay or refunded if no copay. In same phone call, I informed them I only needed a cleaning and nothing else since I had just had all x-rays done 6 months before at previous dentist and would have records sent to them. So i paid the deposit, had my old dentist forward my records, and spent over an hour completing all the on-line forms for their office. When I showed up to appointment, they presented me with this HUGE bill to pay before they do anything. When I reminded them about the insurance verification and filing, I was told they did not know how much would be refunded to me by insurance so I would have to pay and then wait to see. Since I felt lied to, I cancelled the appointment for which they charged me $150!
