This place has an amazing selection and it showcases it by offering stone/countertop fabrications of things in all sizes - as small as a lobster etched out of stone to large ostentatious stone pillars. I would say this - this place is like going to a high-end designer clothing store - you are going for the label, quality and wow-factor of the product. However if you don't need that because you are buying a plain white t-shirt, consider elsewhere unless you are up for getting into some serious haggling. For a quartzite (natural stone) off-cut leftover from a slab with the dimensions of about 89 x 30 (I overestimated) I received a SMC quote of $2400. However, I also knew prices for a whole slab of the product I was looking for were being sold online for about $1800 (excluding delivery). I came back to SMC after having a template of the exact piece I needed because with appliances, the measurements were reduced to roughly 44 x 30 - plus I wanted a 4" backsplash and the quote I received from SMC was a total of $1300 (including delivery to Manhattan). An additional piece of the quartzite (24" x 6") I wanted for a bathroom saddle, I was told it would be $120. I nearly gagged because I knew that I just came from another place in the Bronx who charged $40 for a saddle. When I commented about how expensive it was, the SMC seller knocked off $20 from the price quote. While I understand the other comments about the place being no-frills and being willing to negotiate, ultimately the amount of energy it would take to haggle down to the price that would be reasonable for what appeared to be excellent product when you could go elsewhere and get good-enough product with a backsplash and two saddles that totaled at least 60% less than SMC pricing $1400 quote was a no-brainer for me when I only needed a good enough countertop quickly for a first home purchase that I would probably re-sell or rent out one day. After the renovation is over, I will start saving up for my dream home with my dream SMC countertop. read more

I am an architect by trade and live close to SMC STONE. Needed a special size stone threshold cut in order to install a new door. SMC has a decent selection - however, their pricing is standard (don't think you can get a deal with them). Worst of all, their staff was just the rudeless, non-friendly people you can find. I asked him to "rush" the job for me as it is only a retangular shaped standard dark granite, his response was - well, your rush is not my problem....while I was thinking on what to do, he walked away and left me feeling helpless. I walked out and called - ATA STONEWORKS, INC. They saved the day. Prices are less and most importantly, he was so helpful and is able to get me my special sized granite in one (1) day!!!! I purchased a synthetic stone counter-top for a kitchen renovation and was very pleased with SMC Stone's work. Kelvin Ye, the SMC rep showed me the big "name brands" in quartz counter-tops - Silestone and Cesarstone. But, he also showed a cheaper, newcomer - FineStone from China (shocker!). I was hesitant but the lower cost (~10% cheaper) won me over. SMC's people measured my kitchen, cut the slab precisely and oversaw delivery (tricky b/c the slab was so long it had to be hoisted from the outside and brought in through a window). BUT, SMC had slightly mis-measured and the sink cut-outs were fractionally off. *&*^&**!! SMC apologized profusely and rushed a new counter-top to me within a week. This one fit perfectly. They did a nice job with the FineStone seams (my counter-top has a "waterfall" side) but they did leave some residue of sealant on the surface. When I called them about it, they sent over a rep the next day to clean and polish the top. It now looks perfect. SMC has worked with my contractor in the past and he recommended them. I didn't shop around too much but I believe their prices were good. And, the Chinese-made FineStone seems identical to its higher-priced competitors. In sum, SMC wasn't flawless, but they corrected their mistakes quickly. I think they did a quality installation job and I believe their prices to be very good. I took a Lyft here from Manhattan. Got a sales guy that could hardly speak English. Took forever to give me a quote. He tried to charge $1500 for a piece of stone that was an off-cut. Plus tax, plus delivery. I got a better produce elsewhere for $600. The showroom is north of hideous. Do NOT waste your time. read more

The SMC Stone was terrible cutting and installation. We ordered two slabs stone for the kitchen counter , they did not mention to us the slab stone was different color until cut out the stones. Also, their stone cutting every where uneven line with rough finishes on the joint. We complain to them, but never fixed and complain back to us. I never order the stone to this Chinese company. read more

I was excited to find the tile I was looking for at a reasonable price. Then I came back for a remnant piece for a small countertop and what every other customer said is true - the guy sat at his desk for 15 minutes "working the numbers" and then tried to sell me a different slab, saying he misunderstood which one I wanted and priced a lower end product (at $600 for stone and fabrication). I called him on his BS and ordered the original piece I was shown at the price he quoted me. Then I needed shower saddles in the same color as the first tile I bought from them, so went back to have it custom cut and was charged $200 for two 5" x 24" saddles! I had no choice as no one else had this stone. About a month later I was finishing another small kitchen and went to price a remnant piece at a stone shop near SMC, it was the same size as the one SMC charged me $600 only it was 1 1/4" thickness opposed to 3/4" I got at SMC. This seller charged $245 for stone and fabrication!!! That is less than half that of SMC. I gave them 2 stars because the counter did fit well and they have an amazingly huge selection. And their prices are competitive, but they seem to charge whatever they want for fabrication. read more

I feel compelled to write this review after reading all the negative ones from straight up cry babies who have clearly never bought stone or tile before. This is a stone yard in BROOKLYN, not a fancy showroom in the D&D building or like Waterworks, Artistic Tile, Nemo, etc. If you are looking for someone to kiss your feet & stroke your hair while gently holding your hand through the decision making process, you are better off going elsewhere. This company runs efficiently and effectively, they have a good amount of merchandise and competitive prices, yes sometimes you'll have to haggle but in general, they are economical and don't charge crazy prices for installation. I tend to shop with them or ABC Stone nearby and we go in, make selections, and get the heck out. The showroom is filled with weird sculptures and it's small, but if you have an idea of what you're looking for, they can be very helpful. Their installers/measurers are better than the sales people, very friendly & nice, precise, etc. The stuff that is important. Overall a decent place if you're looking to save a few bucks. read more

I was very disappointed in SMC Stone Importer. We came into the store asking about bathroom counter top and tile for the floor. Our salesperson was rude and disrespectful of our opinions. He also told us we would never find a better price than what he was offering for tile and we did easily online. In fact, the amazon affiliate even delivered the tile to our apartment at no extra charge! When I asked about pricing of marble versus granite counter top he was vague and gave me a range of possibilities rather than showing me a type of counter in my price range. I chose the counter I liked and he went back to his desk to "work up the numbers". We waited almost 15 minutes for him to come back and then he insisted on taking us out to the yard to show us the stone before he would give us the quote. Finally, he showed us the quote which was outrageous! We never would have chosen that stone if he had known how much it cost. He completely wasted our time AND behaved as if he could trick us into buying the counter. I was very insulted by the way customers are handled by SMC Stone. I would recommend E Stone instead which is located on Morgan Ave as well. SMC Stone may have a bigger space and more product but certainly do not have an interest in pleasing their customers. If there were zero stars I'd use that. I bought two slabs of Quartzite for my countertops. Before putting down my credit card, I asked, "will it chip? It looks fragile." Of course the sales person said, "oh no, it's very strong." After a lot of difficulty getting the fabrication done, finally they were installed. A few places on the counter came with chips that had been filled with grout. Within the first month the counter was chipped all over and had water ring stains on the surface. I placed a call to have them come take a look. It took three follow up for them to finally send someone. After the guys came, I had to chase them at least five times to get a resolution. They never called me back. I had three issues: the chips, the stains and a desire to round the edge on the sink to prevent further chipping. I finally got them to agree to send someone to fix the chips but they would charge me $350. They NEVER responded on the stains and kept blaming the manufacturer and never addressed my desire to reshape the edge. Here is the problem: They are happy to sell a $6,000 countertop but they completely lack a customer service culture. They DO NOT stand by their product and they expect their customers to chase them for weeks on end. Stacy, my sales person could not have cared less about my issues. There are plenty of other places to buy stone in New York City. Avoid these rude proprietors at all costs!!!!!!! read more

Counter top 3/4 granite was what I Oder , installation was ok, but they drop the ball in my bath room pice , on one side the cut was good but the curve was off. I did not spend the time to examine it. So do your self a favor before the installer glues it down take the time to inspect and inspect !! Do shop around for prices. read more

This place is huge with multiple showrooms. Some of the displays and products are TACKY but I don't think I've ever seen more selection of natural stone. Stone prices are "competitive", but porcelain products are on the high side. As a small example, I picked out a porcelain tile that was $4.75/ft. When I got home I discovered that Home Depot has the exact same tile online for $3.85/ft. Guess where I ordered from. Finally, like 95% of tile stores, prices aren't listed on the tile itself so if you see something you like, you have to wait five minutes or so until they can give you a price. This process is such a time waster and drives me nuts. To me it shows zero appreciation for the customer and tile stores are one of the few retail places where you walk in and prices are kept secret. Most customers have a budget and you can waste 30 minutes finding a tile you like only to find out it's double what you can spend. Ridiculous process and it's another reason why big box stores are making headway into the business of "mom and pop" tile stores despite the inferior selection of tile. read more
