Poor customer service and sneaky business. They told me delivery would be free for an order over $300 (which was a bump up from $200 earlier in 2023). I made the order two days later, had it delivered and then found they'd added a $60 delivery fee (to drive five minutes from the store). Then they refused to remove the delivery fee when I complained. They added it on and did it knowingly without telling me, claiming only after I complained that the policy since the new year is free delivery over $500. Though I was told two days before ordering (well into the new year) that it was free over $300. Poor customer service and unfair return practices (they won't let you return anything without a receipt, even for a store credit). I gave them a chance, even after a friend of mine tried to return a unused tile cutting tool several months ago with a receipt and they told him they don't accept returns on tools. Buyer beware!! Also, doing my shopping experience today, I over heard one of owners make a gay slur about me as I walked away. I did not do anything to provoke him and was polite the entire time. I love the selection for majority of needed Items for construction / property management. There online selection is much more broad for unique projects. Good deals / pricing. favor aspect is it's locally owned an operations. I once asked an employee (who was taking a nap on large cardboard boxes) where an item was located- he raised a finger and pointed- said nothing--seemed very pissed that I interrupted his slumber. read more

These guys were horrible. I've been there twice and both times were met with hostility, unfriendliness, and misinformation. They were rude from the moment I walked in the door and both times I walked away with damaged goods, which was the best I could get from what they had in stock. The worst part is I still paid twice the price I would have if I had gone to a reasonable store. I asked if i had an option to return what i bought if it didnt work and the manager said no. Oriental Lumber is a large Chinese owned building products/lumber/hardware store business that was in the neighborhood before I arrived in 2006 and the Morgan/Jefferson L stop area got hot. It is well stocked and items not in stock can be ordered. I had to return items on occasion and there were no problems. The staff (most of them have been there as long as I remember) are friendly and know their business. The owners of the business are around if something needing their presence comes up. No drama at this place. Their prices are competitive, perhaps a bit higher then Home Depot but considering that they are nearby and one can be in and out in minutes it is worth it. Perhaps because my needs were always met the four five times a year I went there I keep coming away with a feeling that it is good to have a business like this in my neighborhood. There is parking along Flushing Avenue most of the time but if that is not possible there are spots around the corner on Irwing. read more

Terrible customer service. Would not simply cut and re-thread steel piping without proof that the pipe was purchased from them (which it was). If you are purchasing anything other than lumber, skip it. Save your money for Crest True Value or Platz True Value. I didn't carry 40 lbs of pipe to Oriental because they are the 'one-and-only, must-see pipe threaders of the year', I carried 40 lbs of pipe to Oriental because a) I originally bought, cut, and threaded the pipe there, b) I don't actually know where else in Bushwick to cut and thread pipe (I'm open to suggestions),and c) It's conveniently close to me. Needless to say, I'll be going out of my way to give my money to other businesses. read more

Not friendly, especially the delivery guy: after staring at my boyfriend and I while we were unloading the truck he threw my staff on the street with a major attitude, maybe trying to speed us up. I usually go to this lumber store only if I cannot manage to go somewhere else. read more

Pretty unhelpful staff. Bailed and left me to my own devices after showing me the right aisle. One part I bought was mislabeled. I considered returning it, but the place is plastered in signs with *long* lists of what they won't accept for returns, what they won't do for customers, shoplifting warnings, etc. Just very unfriendly. My fiance warned me after she had a bad experience, but I foolishly went in anyway after getting sick of Ace Hardware on Knickerbocker (waited an hour once because their posted hours don't much their actual hours). So far, I've only had decent experiences with Crest True Value on Metropolitan Ave and Platz True Value in Ridgewood, which is a shame, since Oriental Lumber is much closer. Tony's Hardware is also helpful, but they're pretty small, unfortunately. read more

The worst! Very unhelpful people. I've tried a few times to buy things there but have left in frustration every time. If you can, go to Crest instead where everyone is knowledgeable and helpful. read more
