TL;DR: Instead of a quick, satisfying lunch, I was treated to a slow, unsatisfying, anxiety ridden experience. My family and I were shopping in Sherwood Plaza and thought Smashburger would be a quick stop for a nice fast-casual burger and fries. We visited about 15 minutes after opening on a Saturday and it was the worst "fast" food experience I've had in a long time. First, there were two groups already seated and waiting for their food. So we were the 3rd group in the store. Our order was taken promptly and then we waited a solid 25 minutes to get our food. So much for "fast". Second, the burger itself was an incredible disappointment. I ordered the mushroom truffle burger and there was one, maybe two, mushrooms. Even worse, the burger itself was *maybe* 1/8th of a pound of meat, and was burned into a tiny little hockey puck that filled less than half the bun. The patty was so small that the swiss cheese slice was burned into swiss cheese "chips" at every corner where the cheese was larger than the burger. Third, the store was filthy. Given the restaurant had just opened for the day, I was left wondering: "does no one clean overnight?" The floor was slick, presumably from grease that had settled over time. But the bathroom took the cake. Words cannot describe the degree of nastiness I encountered here. I'm not sure when the bathroom was last cleaned, but from the log on the door, it had not been cleaned since *at least* 2:30pm the day before (there are no dates on log, so it's possible it had actually been multiple days). Again, the store had just opened for the day, so I'm just assuming no one cleans after closing. Just gross. I can only hope the Natick location is an outlier, because I can't imagine this chain being in business much longer if our experience was the norm. read more

Just had 2 burgers and fries for my table and the eating area and bathrooms need a lot of cleaning! If I would have seen this before I ordered, I would have turned around and left. Really FILTHY. The line was out the door and only had one lady working a register while the food runner was standing around allowing her to take orders, money, and make shakes while he really could have helped her move the very long line along. read more

In actuality my stomach betrayed me and ordered a large smash burger with a ton of extra toppings, ( most of which were free, but if you order over 5 of lettuce, tomato, pickles, ect, they ring it in to the register a bit differently price wise so make sure you pay attention) and smash fries which are tossed in a salty garlicky rosemary blend. I popped a squat at one of the cute booth tables and played around with my number cue card as i patiently quieted my belly grumbles. Then at last the smiley waitress drops off my burger and fries. Fun fact: the larger sized smash burger is not worth it. It'a a lot bigger but the bread stays the same size, which is annoying. Also fun fact, the bacon bbq burger is amaaazziiiiinnngggg. The BBQ sauce has cranberry infused in it making it this sweet complement to the thick and salty bacon strips on top of a juicy burger and fluffly plump bun. The smash fries were hot and delicious and shoe string style so four at a time if the perfect vehicle for all my ketchup needs. After devouring said meal I tried to just get up and leave. I really did. But the booth seating and the waitress who so frequently came over and asked if she could get us anything else really got me thinking about those shakes. Thick and sweet the salted caramel was calling my name. So I succumbed ( you have to go back to the register for ordering extra things, but the waitress still brings them to your table) and boy did I not regret it. Salty crunches of pretzel with sweet caramel served in a glass mug and a silver cup filled with the extra makes for a milkshake and a half. So worth it. Few additional details: - Smash burger is a chain with a local twist for most of its menu items - it's fast food with added table service but no tip - the sell beer, cider and wine - Try a milkshake. Just do it. thank me later. - They have a truffle and mushroom burger for like 7 bucks. If truffle is your thing, try it. it's pretty appetizing. - The salads are huge and they use sliced tomatoes on them which is not my style, but to each their own I guess. read more

I went to this place twice this summer, both visits was great experience to me, place was clean, waiter/casher was friendly, most importantly their food was great, I ordered classic smashburger and smash fries. Burger was fresh and served fast, normal size, very tasty. To me, this place is better than Five Guys, much better than Burger King/Wendy's. Must try smash fries! We ordered four milkshakes and two cheeseburgers. They got the flavor of one of the milkshakes wrong. They only put in for one cheeseburger. When we had been there for 30 minutes and still hadn't gotten our second cheeseburger, we left (cause I had to pick up my son) and came back. Then we waited another 40 minutes, gave up, and left. The burgers and shakes are very good. I prefer the burgers here to Five Guys, but mostly because I love the fried onions they have as a topping here. They also have beer and hard cider here for the adults and Honest juice and Horizon milk drinks for the kids. The service is nice too. Put in your order at the checkout and they'll bring the food to your table, if you're eating in. The space is well-decorated. I pay with my debit card. He said well I don't know if she doesn't want to give you the money back then I can do nothing about it. He ask for my ID and I was like why do you need my ID for? P.O because I don't know who I'm talking too, so told him who I was ( name ) he was" I still need your ID " anyway to not let this escalate to something ( Worse) because I know how these cops out here are, I gave him my ID . People just cannot go on taking someone else's money. I decided to go here as another restaurant I has planned to go to had closed before 7:00 which was listed outside and this was nearby. Normally I try to stay away from hamburgers as I'm "trying" keep my fat intake normally. Since this was near and did not want to go to a buffet I said to myself I will give my self a treat. Boy did I lol. I order a traditional double cheese burger no onions or tomato. This burger was nothing to complain about I ordered medium it did taste medium rare to medium also a coke and sweet potato fries which were really good and not oily at all. The burgers were small, which is fine. Most burger places have giant burgers that leave you either uncomfortably stuffed, or with soggy leftovers. My real issue with the burgers is that they're dry and overcooked. The cranberry sauce on my burger was mediocre. The smash fries were really really good. Store seems to have trouble with staffing. I have a 30 minute lunch and work in the Sherwood Plaza. Yesterday at 5:50 it took 20 minutes for a salad to arrive after placing the order. I was not offered an apolgy only the excuse they had a lot of to go orders. There was also a 7+ minute wait for the person in front of me to place their order. Even though they have 2 registers no one ever came to assist in taking orders. The salad did not look appetizing after they threw it in a container to go. It should not take 20 minutes to assemble a salad. There was nothing extra added to the order. What a disappointment not to have time to eat. The place slightly under manned on my visit with the family. We arrived around 5 pm on a Saturday. We ordered two smash burgers and a hotdog meal for my child. We struggled with no success to find a clean table. Sure they were cleared off, but you could see grease and small bits of trash and food underneath. We took the lesser of the evils and further cleaned off the table of choice. 5-10 minutes later my daughters hotdog and fries arrived to the table, 2 minutes after, come the burgers. The child's hotdog is pretty large, at 6-2, 212; it was intimidating to me. It was served on a butter grilled bun and the wiener looked to be sharing time beside it too. The hotdog was served with a large portion of crispy shoestring fries. The burgers looked enticing, butter grilled "sweetish" buns with a deliciously seasoned patty. It was topped off with a fresh piece of green leaf, fresh tomato and red onion. The smash burger comes with the smash sauce. I removed it from my sandwich, but it is a saccharin mixture of mayonnaise, thousand island and paprika. I'll definitely visit again. read more

Usually I wouldn't write a review after only one visit and having that visit within the first week of a restaurant opening, but my Smashburger experience was very positive, and so I feel pretty safe in posting now rather than waiting for repeat visits. This restaurant, similar to other of the new burger places, has you line up to place your order. You then get a numbered plaque and sit down to wait for your meal. Though only very recently opened, and reasonably busy, the wait for my meal was fine. All the servers were extremely pleasant and attentive given this somewhat cafeteria model. I ordered the avocado club burger, one friend ordered the truffle mushroom swiss, and another friend ordered spinach, cucumber and goat cheese burger. We all ordered the "big" size and found that more than satisfying (and one of us is a "healthy" eater). We also all agreed our burgers were very nicely seasoned with all add-ons being very fresh. The Smashfries were well prepared, and not greasy at all. (And I, personally, prefer the Smashfries very thin shoestrings style.) I suppose it's a matter of taste based on other reviews I see hear, but I would take this over Five Guys any day. The burgers just tasted better and nicely sized, and, as noted, all ingredients, including the bun, just seemed very fresh compared to what is offered at FG. And the fries at FG, which, when served to me with a paper bag, were notable mostly for the large grease spots on the bag. Not the case here at Smashburger where food was served in nice metal basket with a clean liner. I was certainly full after the meal, so not sure I could fit one in, but will make the attempt at another visit to try one of the Haagen Dazs milk shakes. read more

I wanted to love this place. And the first time I came I really 100% did - it was so drool worthy I couldn't wait to come back. Unfortunately, the past couple times I came the quality has gone done dramatically. The burger combos and fries are really good but the burgers just aren't as juicy as they should be. I do love that they source as many ingredients as they can local. Their bbq sauce is so good adding cranberry to it! I am not a vegetarian and never order out that way but their black bean burger is out of this world. It is flavorful and not dry. I don't usually order chicken sandwiches out either but their chicken sandwiches are so flavorful. I really hope they bring the quality back up to the opening week. Very tasty burgers. This trend of "fast casual" is here to stay. Service this night was top notch. The New Englander burger is alright. Not into the "Thanksgiving" theme burger but could be great for others! My personal favorite is probably the bacon bbq and the truffle burger. The cashier/server/busboy had to stop to hand a woman toilet paper because the restrooms were out. I'm sad about no more fried pickles or Cholula hot sauce but I'm more concerned about how stale the rolls on my daughter's burger and my chicken sandwich. Stopped by on a Friday evening to get a quick meal with my kids. Young staff working barely smiled and were munching on fries while packing to-go orders. My kids burgers and fries were fine but my order left a lot to be desired. My burger looked like it had been made a few hours earlier... cheese was pasted on and so dehydrated it was essentially see-through. A few skinny onion rings were squished on top and there was 1 piece of old bacon. I was looking forward to tater tots as I never eat them... the 4 or 5 pieces on top were crisp... the rest: old and dehydrated... DISAPPOINTED. This was our last stich-effort for Smash Burger: they gave my son the completely wrong burger a few months ago so we figured we'd give it one last shot. Wow, it has been a long time since I have experienced service this bad. For a seemingly modern and progressive restaurant they lacked basic customer service. The attendant was grumpy and clearly did not want to be there. The order took 28 min to come out, which was missing the avocado and the side of chipotle was not included. After the the food finally came it was cold. The large smash fry for $4.59 was more like a small, don't waste your money here, go straight to 5 guys and enjoy the free peanuts while you wait, and get a huge bag of fries for $5.00 no coke in the coke machine, and no CO2, hmmm, I would have liked to know that before hand. Went here for a late dinner one night. No one was in the restaurant. Ordered two burgers, the baja guac, two drinks, and a fry. The baja guac burgers came out with no guac. Umm...? I was told since one was a grilled chicken, it didn't come with guac. But when I questioned why the burger didn't have any either, I was told they would send them back. I denied. They could have easily brought a little guac out. I wasn't sending it back to have them spit in my food. The staff wasn't friendly, the manager appeared to be chatting on the phone in the entry way the entire time. While there was nobody in the restaurant, there weren't many tables to choose from, since they were all dirty. It looked like no one had cleared the tables since at least 5pm. Seriously? I showed up a like 9:47 (when they we're supposed to be closed up at 10:00) to pick up a Door Dash order and they already had the Doors locked with the chairs up. I'm not sure how the employees are just allowed to ignore online orders and close up early. The worst burger/experience I've ever had! You're name should be changed to Trashburger! I placed an order online and when I get there, nobody greets me as I come up to the online order pickup station. After I say hi to the employee, I let her know that I'm picking up an online order. She looked puzzled and said, "give me a minute while I try to figure out how to pull up an online order ." As I patiently waited, I start looking around and can't help but notice the filthy floors and the level of unprofessionalism of the cooks and what seemed to be the manager. After 10 minutes, the employee asked me what I ordered so she could figure it out. I told her that I had to call my wife because she placed the order. Before I was able to even start dialing, she takes off to the back. She comes back about 5 minutes later and checks the receipt printer and noticed that it was out of paper. She then states "Oh... there is your order!" She spends about 5 more minutes trying to reload the printer machine, and then she finally puts in my order to the cooks. Food came out fairly quickly, about 6 minutes. No apology, nothing! As I get home, I see that they skimped me on the fries and the fried pickles were soggy and extra greasy! The burgers were small and I think I would rather have a quarter pounder with cheese from McDonald's. I will never go to "Trashburger" ever again! read more
