Place is great. Food is great. A few things are disappointing. Overall I love we got something so yummy in Alaska. Food quality is always good, I have only had a few complaints. Complaint 1: no customer facing trash cans. I get you want to clean up fast and help but it's not always possible. I hate that I can't bus my own trash when your busy. Complaint 2: fried pickles in Togo are great or a soggy mess. I have ordered Togo 4 times and 1/2 of the time they are great and 1/2 they are a waste of money. Complaint 3: cost! You want us to come all the time but we can't afford to. I understand you offer monthly cards but it only covers the burger then you buy sides and soda. You also have a rewards (see next complaint) cost are a bit high all considering. Yes it's Alaska but don't over charge because you can. Complaint 4: Rewards, coupons, flyers via mail, nothing works together!!! Can't use your rewards if your using a dollar off coupon? Why it's $1 off. It's frustrating and silly. Honestly stop sending me mailers if I can't use them with my rewards. I would rather get my rewards on $30 then get $2 off. Stupid. Staff is friendly and always present to work with. Your night crew is kids and they sometimes eat on the line. This is customer facing and personally it's just me being a stickler. Food is amazing! Shakes are great and the burgers are amazing. This is our go-to burger place in Anchorage, because the quality is excellent and the prices are fair. When compared to fast food burgers, they look even better (Smashburger's pricing is almost the same but for substantially better quality). Believe me: with 2 young boys, our family are quite the burger connoisseurs, so we don't make such recommendations lightly! Whenever we're in the mood for burgers, we'll make the drive from wherever we are to South Anchorage (usually a pretty lengthy jaunt) just to eat here, happily passing up all of the usual and more conveniently located burger factories (you know the ones). The atmosphere is nice, the food is always excellent (including the awesome shakes), and the service is prompt and attentive. What's not to love? Went to this place and placed my order, I noticed I was around 10 orders down till mine was complete. Once received, we left and found out later that the order was incorrect. I had ordered chicken burger and got a beef burger. I called them to let them know right away that my order is incorrect, they said to bring in and we will correct. Pretty disappointed with my first visit to Smashburger. I placed an online order for a regular avocado club burger minus ranch and mayonnaise. Guess what I found on my burger when I got home? I should have checked while I was still there. I still ate the burger though, and the patty was pretty dry. I prefer my meat more on the medium rare side, so this was too well-done for my liking. Sadly the avocado was the best thing about the burger. I also ordered a regular side of Smashfries. They were lukewarm, like they had been sitting out a while, and pretty dry. I got hotter, fresher fries the last time I went to Wendy's. Besides a hint of rosemary, no different than any other fries. Decided to finally check out Smashburger tonight for dinner with the hubby. We had waited several months after opening so we might get an actual seat, tonight we did. The place was bright and clean and the service was excellent! The food however, isn't all the hype claims. I had a crispy chicken burger and smashfries. The crispy chicken was more of a breaking than crisp, the flavor was bland and it was not hot at all. The slice of cheese didn't even melt. I ordered the Smashfries now those were excellent! The rosemary flavor was fantastic and the fries were crisp. My husband ordered a cheeseburger and haysticks. I love this place but sadly when doing a pick up order through Yelp. They put cheese on an order that I chose not to have it. It may not be a big deal to many but a big deal to my husband. He can't have cheese or dairy on anything. When we called to have something done with this burger the Manager said since u sent through a third party we can't help you. The only way to do pick up is through Yelp so I am confused why they encourage you to use it. If they aren't gonna help you when it's messed up. I realize everyone messes up but come on that's just basic Customer Service here. I stopped by here a few days ago for the very first time while running errands. Smashburger is a new restaurant located at a small strip mall next to Starbucks in the Cabela's shopping plaza at the corner of C St. and 104th Ave. I came in around 1:30PM and the place was filled to capacity. I waited close to about 25 minutes in line before placing an order, but that was to be expected in such a popular place during the lunch rush. The seating arrangement of the tables and chairs were noticeably cramped and didn't give enough personal space for diners to eat comfortably when it gets crowded. However, the employees were very friendly upon greeting and the cashier was cheerful and upbeat when I approached the counter. I decided to do the Create Your Own Burger by customizing it with aged cheddar, Applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, grilled onions, ketchup, and mayo on their Classic Egg Bun. For the side, an item on the menu caught my attention and that was the Smashfries (shoestring fries tossed in Italian olive oil, rosemary, and garlic....yes!). I have been reading countless reviews from fellow Yelpers down in the Lower 48 on garlic fries and this was only the second restaurant I came across in Anchorage that served seasoned fries with garlic. The wait for my order was only a few minutes, a lot shorter than the time I spent waiting in line. The burger was absolutely delicious cooked medium with Certified Angus beef that is fresh and not frozen when made-to-order. The aged cheddar provided the perfect complement to the beef with its sharp tanginess as well as the thick-cut bacon adding an additional crunch of flavor with the toasted bun. The Smashfries were a home run with the perfect crisp as well as generous amounts of rosemary and minced garlic mixed in with the fries. There is also an option to order the Smashfries in a sweet potato version as well. Needless to say, it only took me a few minutes to devour this little piece of heaven and wash it down with a large cup of iced tea. They have an eclectic variety of burgers on their menu which also include the Spinach, Cucumber, and Goat Cheese (tomato, onion, and balsamic vinaigrette on a multi-grain bun), the Buffalo and Blue Cheese (Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Sauce, lettuce, tomato, and mayo), Spicy Jalapeno Baja (guacamole, pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, onion, and chipotle mayo on a spicy bun), the Avocado Ranch Black Bean Burger (pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, and ranch dressing on a multi-grain bun), and the local regional favorite for the Anchorage location, the Kenai Burger (Kenai cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, haystack onions, jalapenos, and mayo on an egg bun). All of their burger selections can be ordered with chicken instead of beef as well as items like salads, fried pickles, and Reese's Peanut Butter, Chocolate Oreo, or Butterfinger shakes also offered on their menu. There is also a rewards program called the Smashclub which will inform you of the newest burger promotions and coupons online to save a few dollars on future visits. You can also bypass the long waits in line by ordering on their website and simply picking it up at the counter. I would've given this place five-stars if it weren't for the cramped and tight seating area as well as more cash registers to split the long line to reduce waiting time. If you can't figure out what kind of burger you want, you have the option to create your own. Perks of doing so is that you actually get to choose your burger size. Just looking at the burger, you can tell that they were hand pressed without any tools, and I love the fact that my burger meat is hanging out of the bun. They also have chicken if you prefer to have white meat over red. Your preference. Did I mention the fact that you can also choose what kind of bun you want?! Okay so now for the more serious issue... FRIES. Now when you see them, they may be skinny but here's the thing, you may want for them to be thicker but when you eat them, you'll realize that size doesn't always matter. Oh and they also have their signature fries which are tossed in Italian olive oil, rosemary, and garlic and I'm telling you, THEY ARE GOOD. But if that's not your cup of tea, they also have regular fries, sweet potato fries, haystack onions, spicy buffalo fries, fried pickles, and veggies frites (green beans & carrot strips flash fried). They also have salads but who goes to a place called SMASHBURGER for a salad, am I right? But also check out the shakes if you've got a sweet tooth that day. You won't be disappointed. A little con, they messed up on my order just by forgetting that I ordered haystack onions on my burger but once I let them know, they went to fix it right away. But I don't blame them, it was 7pm on a surprisingly busy Thursday when I came in. Really yummy grilled chicken sandwich. It seems like they flattened the juicy Morsel so the surface area of the chicken is the correct width so not to make too wide of a chicken sandwich. I choose the egg bun which was perfect for me. The vegetable condiments are fresh, and crisp. Cucumbers, green leaf lettuce, fresh jalapeños etc. the fries were nothing to rave about. I am a regular at this place and it is a hit or miss depending on who is cooking in the kitchen. Burgers are sometimes dry, Smashfries are also one of the things that get messed up so easily, it can get really oily and soggy especially when you order to go. They sit too long in bags in the counter and the bags are closed. Sometimes they leave it open which prevents it but really depending on who is working. Please, management, I beg you: make a decision, once and for all. Does the buffalo and blue cheese sandwich have or not have grilled onions? The menu does not list grilled onions. The sandwich has never once been served to me with grilled onions. And yet most of the cashiers will insist vehemently that it certainly does come with grilled onions, and when I ask to add regular onions will say, "and remove the grilled onions?" and back and forth, on and on. Yes, this is a minor (if baffling) issue, but it is illustrative of the whole Smashburger experience. Wildly inconsistent milkshake servings, fry allotments, and sauce/topping amounts. Wait times between 5 and 45 minutes. Etc., etc. I come to a fast-casual restaurant for convenience, predictability, speed, and indulgent gluttony, and only one of those 4 can be experienced at Smashburger. Food was great customer service awful. Started off with very minor things that just kept getting worse. Asked for one peanut butter shake charged me for two my friend tried ordering the cold brew shake, the kid at the front tried saying they didn't have coffee shakes tell she pointed it out to him.
