This place is a joke!! 3:30pm no walk in appointments. This happens all the time always get a rude I'M BOOKED. I asked why do they book the whole place and not have any walk in appointments. I AM THE ONLY ONE WORKING Are you kidding me?, they cannot pull the COVID Card because this happens all the time. When they reopened the state same deal. This is no way to run a business the owner must be a fool. I know I can go elsewhere and I will this place is a real joke. Also to have employees that really seem that they really do not not care. What happened to customer service? If you are looking for customer service and staff care about the business you would be better going elsewhere. My husband passed away and my friend came up from California to comfort me in my time of need. She offered to pay for having our hair cut and colored with highlights. I made appointments for the both of us at SmartStyle in Shelton. We were a little early and asked to leave until our appointments as there was no place to sit. I asked to look at a style book but they didn't have any. It was time for our appointment and we were told we were only down for a cut and one color. There was not enough time for us to get highlights. It was disappointing so my friend just got her hair trimmed and I chose a cut I saw in a photo on the wall and I asked if I could get my one color just on the ends of my hair. I wanted the ends darker. Jennifer my stylist said she could do that and she did. The cut wasn't bad but it did not look like the picture and the ends of my hair were darker. As we left the shop my friend showed me the receipt. She was charged $225. for my appt. They charged here for a balayage hair color. A balayage is the most expensive color you can get. It is never done with foil and it is supposed to be a custom hand painted look. There is no way you can do a balayage with one color at the ends of your hair. I called the manager back and she told me she helped come up with the price and she said I got what I asked for. This is a ripoff. The manager said she would talk to Jennifer and the owners about fixing my color to more suit a balayage and call me back. That was over a week ago. read more

Well every time we take my grand kids there . Or my self they don't know how to cut hair. I say leave the top.. long and the purple haired girl cuts it all off . And there can be no one in there and walk ins say can I get a cut ? They say we are booked .then why is no one here as they all sit around eating.i am just saying then need new people who knows how to cut all but 1 style. I came here for a trim, I usually love this place I had beautiful long hair about down to the bottom of my back.. I came in to my appointment, was not greeted and I kid you not she taps on the salon chair with her comb. I sit down and she's yanking on my hair with her comb, not talking at all. After she was done "combing" my hair , all I feel is my hair feeling very light on one side, she CHOPPED my hair just above my shoulder. Let's get this out here in front, because it isn't on the name of the business. This is Walmart. Anytime you go to WM, you are doing so at your own risk. So I accept responsibility for my experience, but still want to put this out here. The cutter spent 4 and a half minutes cutting the very bottom of my hair. No shampoo or blow dry. She didn't even wet it to cut it. I have long hair and was hoping for shoulder-length. She decided that since I had "such pretty hair," she was only going to trim the bottom. I didn't have my glasses on, so I couldn't really see the length. I thought maybe they were rushed because of the virus, and didn't have more time to spend on my hair. Then I would get some sort of discount. Nope. $17.87 for a little over 4 minutes of trimming split ends. And then she actually asked for a tip! read more

Took one of my daughters there last summer, stylist completely ignored what we asked for. Made my four-year-old cry. Took my seven-year-old daughter there today. Different stylist, still ignored what we asked for, but at least it looked cute this time. Cheap too. But the beauty school in town is cheaper and the students do a better job. read more

My wife stylist was unavailable for a week so she made an appointment at smart style. They had a convenient time and we're ready right on time. The stylist was very friendly and seem to know her job very well. And the pricing was extremely reasonable. On the other thing to say is we would go back again. read more

First few times I went here. I got good service. Than I went in and the stylist completely ignored my wishes and just chopped the back of my hair. Taking months of grow out to fix.. So I decided I wouldn't see HER again. I come in after that and the next stylist gave me the cut I wanted but when I brought up that it looked uneven just styled it to appear it wasn't and I ended up fixing it at home. So I figure one more shot. I schedule an appointment and they try to stick me with the stylists that totally messed my hair up. I am officially done. read more

Great services, availability, price and wonderful hours make Smart Style at Wal-Mart in Shelton is hard to beat.

I have been going to Smart style for a few years now, and my last experience was horrible. There are a couple of great stylists there and most of the time the service is amazing.... The manager is very un-professional and was rude, and did nothing but scould another stylist in front of everyone. she was ignoring me and my son and made another stylist wait on us even though she was busy with a client. very rude woman, completely un-professional and i will not be going back there anytime soon. read more

I always get compliments on my hair color and blow-outs. People are always shocked when I tell them where I went and how much I paid. They think I have my hair done at some high end, super expensive salon. read more
