I've lived right near this coffee house and passed by it for so many years, I couldn't believe the time I wasted by not coming here! It's a quant, small coffee house with a jazzy mural I couldn't stop staring at. The staff were polite and sweet to all the customers around me. I tried their caramel macchiato and avocado toast. Wow. Wow at how good the good coffee is. Wow at how good the food is. And wow at the fact I cannot think of any cons/negatives in regards to my visits to Smartbean. I've visited them now 4 times in one week. At a client nearby looking for light, flavorful food, and coffee I stumbled upon Smartbean while perusing Yelp. The coffee: No bitterness, but a strong depth of flavor. I've tried the latte with oat milk, iced latte with oat milk, and the caramel macchiato with oat milk. All three were above average. The macchiato was my favorite. The flavor was awesome. The food: Delicious. Avocado toast, Guava and Cheese Beignets, and the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich. I was a fan of all three. The avocado toast is prepared with a poached egg on top of Zak the Baker multigrain bread. What really makes this stand out is the savory miso vinaigrette it's served with. All the ingredients work well together producing a winning flavor. The guava and cheese beignets were a delicacy. Piping hot, fresh, cooked perfectly. The guava flavor was prominent. These were awesome. I could have legit eaten a dozen. The buttermilk chicken sandwich is served with ham, swiss cheese, and topped with a sunny side egg. The piece of chicken was thick and juicy. The breading had a nice consistency. Light, but flavorful. The egg was cooked perfectly. The yolk looked dreamy. The bun used for this sandwich reminded me of a challah type bread. This sandwich was killer. Service is exceptional. Two workers go above and beyond to service every patron. They remember your name, and go out of their way to make sure you are having an enjoyable dining experience. I rarely give out 5 stars, but I also rarely visit the same place more than 3 times in one week. I'm also rarely blown away by the quality and flavor of food alongside the service in an establishment. Smartbean is well deserving of my 5 stars, and I cannot recommend them enough. read more

Delicious coffee with a super cute design that was topped off with. My hubby ordered a croissant breakfast sandwich with egg and prosciutto and I ordered the beignets. His sandwich was more on the dry side- the prosciutto was over cooked and more on the brittle side. I was disappointed with my beignets. I wanted to try them as they are known to be a sweet treat from New Orleans. I was surprised to see that they offered them here so I went ahead and ordered them. They were hard and the filling was not good at all. I chose the guava and cheese filling. They didn't offer plain (how I originally wanted them) they offered a Nutella or dulce de leche filling. I bit into it and the guava filling poured out and burned my hand! It was just a mess eating these beignets. I'll definitely will be back for the coffee, not so sure on the food but you never know I might give it a second chance. read more

My new favorite spot in Miami Lakes for getting breakfast! If you're looking for a healthier breakfast than the typical "Cuban" breakfast at all of those other spots, then this is the place to come. The avocado toast had a tasty tang to it that left me licking my chops and salivating for more! The breakfast croissant had a soft, flaky crunch on the outside, and delicious melt in your mouth egg, ham and cheese in the middle. Yum! Just the way I like it. If I can give no stars I would! Upset at the fact I drove all the way over from Pembroke Pines to enjoy a cup of coffee and couldn't even get one. If you close at 4 than you should close at 4!! I made it in 20 minutes before closing time and was told the kitchen was closed. As a matter of fact I walked in a waited for someone to even acknowledge me for a few minutes.. Smart Bean is the only cafe in the Miami Lakes area that I would recommend for a specialty coffee and delicious breakfast! My only real complaint would have to be the location, it's kind of out of the way and is generally what prevents me from going. Otherwise once you're inside it is nicely decorated and small but welcoming! Not a super busy place so great for a relaxed morning. I am not usually the type to get frozen coffee drinks but their Dulce De Leche Frappe is basically a milkshake and it's fantastic. Also super yummy lattes hot or cold (will say they are on the sweet side but that's what I prefer). Have gone back for the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich multiple times and their Croissant Breakfast sandwiches are also great! read more

This was my first going to this place and I can definitely tell that I'll be back! It was actually my sister that recommended me this place a little while back and we finally had time to go. ATMOSPHERE: its a cute little place in a small shopping center in Miami lakes. It's not super big, it looks like it can seat 20-30 people. They have some tables for 2-4 people and then two little love seats with a table. The staff is very friendly and know good things to recommend. We went at 10:15 am on a Saturday and it was full at all but around 11 it started filling up but it never got too loud. FOOD: we had the croissant sandwich, and it was amazing. I didn't know if the food would be fresh or not but I was not disappointed. It had smoked ham, havarti cheese, and eggs. The eggs were so creamy and just spilled over the croissant but in a good way. They had recommended the beignets but we were so full with the sandwich. It gives us a reason to come back though. DRINKS: I had the large hazelnut latte and my sister had the small whites chocolate mocha. They were both very good and didn't taste too sweet or syrupy like it can sometimes with flavored drinks. They had a nice variation of non dairy products to put in your latte and my sister chose soy milk. It's very cute how they put latte art and I've seen it be personalized for the season so it definitely got me in the Christmas spirit. OVERALL: although it seemed a little pricey $31 for two people, the food was definitely worth it and being a small cafe it felt very homey. One thing I love is finding an owner operator and chef fully engaged in their business. Much respect . The only reason I'm withholding that fifth star is that its self-service. You have to order your food at the counter, grab your silverware, napkins, etc. I personally like to be served if I'm going to a sit down establishment. We ordered some classics, avocado toast, ham & cheese croissant and a sweet finish with the guava croissant. Every dish was prepared to order and tasted as such. This coffee house is the absolute best! So for a while my husband was raving about their coffee and how they actually listen to the order ( my husband is lactose intolerant so he needs almond milk ). I finally went last Sunday and ordered alongside my husband and two kids. My kids ordered the Oreo Frappuccino and it was AMAZING, the best I've ever tasted. After my third visit I figured it was best if I share my wonderful experience and you get you all to try something better than Starbucks. First of, the owners are the most delightful people you will ever encounter. They have a true passion for the business and their creative menu reflects it. I personally enjoy the Pleasantville environment versus the "just a number number" at most coffeehouses. Moving on the subject of coffee. I had the white chocolate iced and it was amazing! Just the right amount of sweet and it didn't even need any added sugar. I am looking forward to trying the rest of the coffee on the menu. Aside from the coffee they have tons of snacks on the menu to choose from. I treated myself to an Acai Bowl and my husband to the avocado toast. The Acai is mixed with a slight taste of pineapple which makes the whole bowl with the added fruits on top come together. The beignets were super topped with powered sugar, almost looked like a mountain of sugar. I had to dust some of it off but for the most part they were very yummy and still warm inside when I bit into them. Aside from what I ordered, they also have different toast options, açaí bowls, tacos, sandwiches, soups and other small bites and to drink they have frappes and smoothies so definitely coming back to have some of these options! Probably one of the more expensive coffee spots in Miami Lakes, although technically this could be considered PSN. Ill be transparent and admit that I went shortly after they opened and have not revisited so I share this review with only one experience with the spot. The service was friendly but ambiance was lacking WHICH based on pictures I've seen recently and driving by there very very often I can say it HAS improved since they opened but of course, you would expect that. Her tone and facial expressions were bad enough but to answer questions because of a health concern with what can only be described as a nasty attitude and tone is completely unnecessary. Everything perdone - so don't even ask for the cold cuts without any bread. They will accommodate nothing, their choice. What a great little hole in the wall! The location of this cafe is a little hidden, in the sense that it's not in much of a main road unless you live in Palm Springs North. I had a croissant breakfast sandwich which was delicious and a coffee. The ambiance for this place is exactly what a cafe should be! Seems a little out of place because it looks like this place belongs in Coral Gables or Wynwood. The only down side is that it is a little on the pricier side, but worth it! read more

My cortado came out so incredibly hot, it took 20 minutes to cool only to be not worth the wait. Flat and one dimensional, I only have a single cup a day, so I don't drink swill. I came pretty far across town. I am usually not disappointed by Yelp reviews. I almost always leave positive reviews. This place didn't have anything redeeming to offer. What a great find this was. The cafe is located of the main roads which is great because there is no traffic. It's in the corner of a small plaza and inside is small, but wow the service and food makes up for that. The coffee we had was amazing. I had a peppermint mocha and I had never had coffee so tasty. To eat we tried the beignets , blueberry muffin and the Peanut Butter toast. I didn't really the beignets, but the toast was really good. I did find it pricey though for one piece of toast.
