I went from having a rickety driveway that you could fall while walking completely sober and break your face, to an absolutely awesome driveway that included an upgraded sidewalk to the front porch and a side pad for the waste receptacles Omar and his crew were extremely professional, extremely hard workers, and finished in two days time! Within less than a week I had a brand new driveway that I could park on and use the way I was meant to. I engaged David to resurface my pool deck, stain it and patch a leak in a concrete pool spillover…read more His team did a very sloppy freehand job, did not use an edge guard and left stain all over the tile trim around my pool. I asked David about it and he said that he would take a look at it and determine if he needed to fix anything. I told him that I was stopping payment unless and until it was fixed. His guy came back and admitted that the work was sloppy because 1) he had his inexperienced grandson doing the trim work and 2) he was trying to knock off early. Also, instead of properly fixing the leak, they basically filled it with a raw ball of concrete, didn't bother leveling it AND SIMPLY STUCK ROCKS TO IT TO HIDE THE POOR WORKMANSHIP!!! When I again brought it to David's attention, his only response was to tell me to take $100 off (of a $3,200 bill) and ask me when he could pick up his check. Ultimately, the paint job came out OK (after I threatened to withhold payment). The spillover is still leaking, and it's going to cost me more than $100 now to get it fixed correctly. This is NOT the situation I was hoping for. As a disabled veteran with limited mobility, all I wanted was to have the work done correctly the first time by a professional without having to deal with this crap. I also have a driveway and other hardscapes that I was planning to have done as well, but it certainly won't be with this company. What a disappointment!

His quoted price was fair and reasonable and a good value as they also painted the garage floor. Both look great and finally my driveway looks as good as the rest of the house. The owner Jeremy came out to assess at the end (the next day) and told me the sand level for the pavers was already perfect so it ended up costing less than originally expected. I don't know if that kind of honesty would have been found at another company so want to mention that here. I give them all the stars

Their excuse for not showing or calling is they had no record of the appointment (that I made with Jeremy) and it was raining! This was an appointment for a quote on a covered lanai - really raining stops a quote where all is needed is a measurement indoors! The person that answered the phone hung up before i could even tell her it was indoors! RUDE!

Steve is the type of contractor you dream of meeting- honest, insightful and knows the business and all the connecting companies to do anything in general contracting. They have done plenty of residential work over the years and some big ticket venues like remodeling the Jags locker room, or renovating the bathrooms at the Jacksonville Symphony. AND MORE! Steve handled my flooring and gave me so many recommendations for other projects- from electrical to plumbing to where to find the best countertops! I've come to rely on "Steve the floor guy" recommendations! So- my floors! They only use quality products- we went with a wood laminate ProGen - Cerused Oak POWDER, 20 mil. As Steve put it- you could drop a bowling ball on it and it won't be damaged. It's also waterproof! This brand is highly recommended among reputable flooring companies. We didn't touch the bathrooms (they are tiled) but ripped up all the carpet and the tile in the kitchen and the entryway. I love my floors! Steve also had his "best tile" guys redo my fireplace with a weathered brick I bought from Floor & Decor. During renovations before we moved in Steve and I would just stand and stare at the beautiful fireplace once it was finished! It reminded him of his childhood home~ lovely sentiments. We have been in the house since February and still call Steve for recommendations and for work! His tiling guy will be doing my kitchen backsplash soon! Steve said to me- we treat our employees well and then they do exceptional work and our customers spread the word about our business. Birken Flooring isn't found on Google except for the business licensing- no website, just word of mouth! That's a true compliment to his work~ Highly Recommend!
