Overcharged by $600 and refused to reimburse. A small move of 3 mostly older men (unprofessional, slow, 1 carrying only 5 lbs sometimes, harrassing, disorderly, supervisor had a 5 minute childlike tantrum and the owner couldn't stop him. Charged $1577.00 for a small move. I ordered 3 movers to bring down the cost to $600 or at most $833. (2 movers were estimated at $800, at most $1300). With an overnight storage in their truck, owner said it was free, because apt wasn't ready! The workers sat for an hour without telling me and charged me for it. The movein took 45 minutes, so how could the moveout with dollies take 2 hours, when it was 10 steps from the stairs to truck, vs. 80 steps at the movein and w/o dollies used more than once. I was present for the moveout and movein except for 1 hour when they sat without notifying me the apt wasn't ready. Of course I was charged. Lieing to the credit card company I didn't get the money back. Time to sue or do some other things like this comment. If they refund the $600, mums the word, my mouth would be sealed. I'd even give them a positive comment if I get $600 back in a week. read more

I requested a morning move when I put down the deposit. I received a call on Friday and said they could only do afternoon. He said they would be there around 1 or sooner if they finished early. I called at 1 and was told it would be 3. I called at 3 and they showed up at 4. The guys that came were very nice and efficient. Very apologetic. I'm assuming this happens to them a lot. Horrible service. Quoted for 3 man crew at 3 hrs price, $557. Charged for 7.5 hrs $1,600. Damages were caused to the walls in which one was a new house. They moved 12 items. I requested a move for a 2 bedroom apartment back in august. All i need to say is that this company is the most sketchy group of individuals that WILL take advantage of your time. I was quoted 425 dollars then was charged 1300. during the move they broke our sectional couch, flat screen TV, both of our desks, and our dining room table. they saved us for the last move of the day and sent 2 people that were careless and high on the job. Very bad experience received a quote of 1147.00 charged my spouse who didn't know the quote 1500.00+. my daughter was moving from an apartment in Tucson to Phoenix. the apartment had turned off the water for repairs so she left the movers to go get some bottled water and when she came back they had left without most of the stuff she had asked them to take.,unable to put it in her car. They went to wrong address in Phoenix. and storage area had said no trucks over 25 feet which she told them... they brought a bigger truck. the man on the phone when I called seemed professional and nice but the experience was awful!! She was left feeling regretful that she did not come to check the reviews on here before hiring Smart Move Moving and Storage. DO NOT HIRE, as this company completely lacks integrity and is dishonest. They do not provide even slightly accurate estimates, and there is no recourse to compensate for the disproportionately large loss we took. This became a familial burden as she did not have the money to cover the ridiculous additional cost that they added after they were officially locked in and hired to do the work. Main Issues/Concerns: 1. The final cost was DOUBLE the original quote, and they didn't provide any swing cost or inform us that it would/could reach the level of cost that it did. 2. They did not have enough boxes or rapping materials, which in the end meant our things got broken when they improperly moved them. We have had a lot of experience with many moving industries, including long distance moving and have never had a more subpar, negative experience. By far, this company was the worst. Please note, I do not enjoy making negative reviews, however, it's especially important to know when any company does business in this fashion, so we can stick together. How this company ever received a positive review is impossible to believe, unless it was from their friends and family members! They failed miserably to honor their own promises including wrapping furniture in blankets to prevent damages, leaving us with a plethora of avoidable damages. Their movers were abusive with our belongings at best and seemingly purposefully damaged our appliance among other things. The company promised to get back to us within 3 calendar days regarding filing a claim for our damages with their insurance company, 6 days latter we haven't received a return phone call or email response to ours. This was absolutely the worst moving company I have ever used. They came to my home, saw everything and gave me an estimate. The actual charge was $1000 over the quote. They also charged me for time they weren't even working. They didn't take two packed closets worth of things after claiming to be done. They destroyed my daughter's dresser and broke an expensive floor tile in my new home. To top it all off they left a sliding glass door in the old home wide open after they left and alerted no one so that the air I was still paying for was cooling the entire neighborhood in 106 degree heat. Both our movers Anthony and Adam were amazing, professional, funny, and a total joy to have as help. Though young, they maintained professionalism through the process. I give them five stars each. Amazing young men! As for the company itself, we felt bated and switched. I explained in great detail the amount of furniture and boxes we had to Erika. She assured we would have the crew ready to get it done and it would only take a few hours. They sent these wonderful young men with a 16 foot moving truck despite the amount of furniture I told them we had packed into our apartment. This total idiotic move of sending a small truck to a big job wound up with these gentlemen having to make two separate trips to our home. The cost of this move was more than 350 dollars over budget. As far as the movers are concerned, there are not many better than Anthony and Adam. As far as their bosses go, it left a lot to be desired because we spent way more money with this than we should have. read more

I was told that they would be at my house between 8 AM to 10 AM. Each time I called they told me it would be another two hours. The gentleman who came to my house were eight hours late but it was not their fault. It appears they were sent out on other jobs. This company was more expensive than the average company and I thought I would get that type of service. Their only redeeming value was they have excellent workers. Specifically, Robert and Alonso. They were professional, friendly and very hard workers. Although I did not care for the management, the people they hire are exceptional. read more

DO NOT HIRE! 4/30/22. I was just scammed by this company today. they charged me almost $1000 to move my one bedroom apartment with barely any furniture because I had lost my condo last year in a hurricane after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the year before. I included a picture of the small amount they moved. They were mad so they only left my belongs in the small back room by the door they used. They left half my love seat outside and said I asked him too. "Lucky me they brought it in". That shows their manipulation When I said I wanted to pay The proper amount he said that no matter what amount I paid he was going to leave my belongs in my front yard because It would be faster. They left the tv on the floor and my bed was left against the wall in pieces. The owner was no help, got snarky and told me what a great workers his guys are. Oh yeah they tried to tell me I was talking to the owner and it was a dispatch guy. When I figured it out after I call the owner directly a second time if you owner wasn't even phased he got mad at me They were recommended to me by the Movers in Arizona City evidently they are related. . CONSUMER BEWARE- We paid this company more than $3000 to move us on April 26' 2024 and had to find out the hard way that Smart move does not accept responsibility for items damaged due to the negligence of their movers. The insurance coverage is determined by the weight not the value of the damaged items. We paid to have all of our artwork shrink wrapped and their moving crew wrapped only one side not both sides of the frames. This resulted in terrible damage to the exposed sides of some very expensive picture frames and it will cost almost $2000.00 to replace them. I submitted an insurance claim and I have not heard a word back, tried speaking with Damian, left a message, never got a call back. I was left with no other recourse but to dispute the credit card charge which I lost because I signed a paper accepting the moved items at the time of delivery, which was at 9 pm at night, due to the late hour, the damage to the frames was not discovered until the next morning. If you hire this company or any other, pay very close attention to how your fragile items are being handled and read the fine print regarding the company's liability for damages incurred and DO NOT pay them until you can inspect your all of your belongings. read more

Sold my home and had to rent a storage unit for a couple of weeks until I closed on my new home. I walked thru the house with Ricky to get my quote. Explaining what still needed to be packed...etc...They were late on moving day...showed up with NO BOXES. Of the three that showed up...only one knew what he was doing...they were disgruntled with their boss for lack of moving supplies...but it seems it occurs quite often. Long story short...15 hours later...and a my quote doubled my stuff was in storage. Fast forward to my move day to new home...150 miles away...the new movers...recommended by the realty company that sold me my new home...were appalled by what they loaded and repackaged...they waited till we got there to show us what they found and photographed. I would not recommend SmartMovers to save my life. Damien did NOTHING to be right by his company. We talked on the phone after this disaster and he NEVER followed thru on anything he said...not a business man at all. The right hand never knew what the left hand was doing. Save yourself the headache. A one-star rating was being generous. And trust me when I tell you this was just the tip of the iceberg...many trashed and missing items later. read more

I have a particularly large and heavy item - a hand-built, solid walnut weaving loom - along with all my regular household furniture that needed moving out of town. I requested a rep to come see it to be sure they understood its size, which he did. However, for the move itself, they ended up sending two smaller-sized men who, although energetic and enthusiastic, were really not up to the task. We did manage to get everything moved - including the loom, with much pain and agony - but picture glass was broken and minor furniture damage too. On the positive side, I am supposed to be receiving a small check to cover the damage. Suggest training your movers a bit more, and considering body mass when moving large items. read more

I left a message for Smart Move Moving and Storage last night around 9:00 pm last night after spending many hours moving big equipment into a truck that we planned to take to a storage place ourselves today. We could have done it ourselves, but we were exhausted. I was really happy, when waking up at 6:30 this morning I found a message from Erika. She outlined all of the charges based on several time lines. I wrote her back and by 10:00 this morning we met the two wonderful guys who carefully moved everything into our storage place. We used this business twice for moving. Once from our home to storage then from storage to a new home. The good news- each crew was kind and hard-working. They even said multiple times how easy we were to work with because we were organized and even helped them with lifting and moving. The business is also very responsive. The bad news- you won't get the price they quote you. You also won't get the man power they say they will supply so the move will take longer than planned (first move was two days instead of one because only three movers showed instead of five). We were also told we didn't need to pack everything because they would use totes which didn't happen. We did request that all our furniture be Saran wrapped, which they did a decent job on. Except our couches. They didn't wrap them so they were damaged. They are white couches so they became very dirty which we did not request the business pay for, we offered to clean those ourselves. However, there was one significant rip and one corner that was completely stripped of fabric. The lead mover took note of the damage and said we would receive an email with an insurance claim. A week passed and we didn't receive this so we reached out. Damian immediately provided for us and then was very responsive. We completed the form which required notary. Damian immediately responded, offering us $165 and stated "this should mostly cover the cleaning". I'm sorry but we have to replace these pieces of furniture so $165 will not even come close to replacing a couch and loveseat. Damian wouldn't bug and claimed this is all the business can offer and we agreed to their terms to start. Had the movers properly taken care of our couches, we wouldn't have a problem with this business. Since they didn't and then wouldn't accept much responsibility for the damage done, we cannot recommend them to move your valuables. read more

I arranged Smart Move moving and storage to pack, store for a week (in a rented truck at their facility) and move my 81 year old mother's belongings to her new home. 2 employees showed up on January 8, 2021 to pack my mother's belongings. On January 9, 2021, a crew showed up to move her boxes and furniture into a moving truck. These belongings were stored at their facility, in a rented truck, for a week, waiting for her new home to close escrow. On January 16, 2021 Smart Move moving and storage sent the truck and crew to move her belongings into her new home. While unpacking she noticed a 3 oz gold nugget and 18" 18 carat gold chain, as well as her father's diamond wedding ring were missing, the empty ring box was left behind. I contacted Damian (the owner) immediately. I told him what was going on, but wanted to search anywhere and everywhere before being definite the items were gone. She wore the necklace on Christmas, so it was definitely in her possession prior to the packing. Once it was determined that there was no doubt the items were gone, we filed a police report. I kept Damian up to date on all of our actions. He explained that an insurance claim could not be filled until after the case was closed. After a number of months and a lot of follow-up the case was closed. Unfortunately, without cameras or a confession there was nothing that could be done so the case was closed. Damian told us his company was not responsible and nothing was going to be filled with the insurance company. We requested a police report and spoke to our attorney, who seems convinced the owner knows what's going on, due to Damian's reactions. In the report it mentioned that one of the employees, one that was packing my mother's belongings, has been to pawn shops many, many times in the last couple months, primarily with women's rings and engagement/wedding rings. This employee was offended that he was being questioned multiple times and told it was due to his pawn history. The detective on the case brought this fact to Damian's attention and requested that the employee, Damian and the detective have a conversation together. Damian said he was not comfortable with this. Why wouldn't you want to just check it out to make sure? Especially because Damian told me that he could teach anyone to move, but couldn't teach honesty and didn't want dishonesty in his company. It all sounds so shady, including Damian's actions. My 81 year old mother already had a lot of anxiety, but this only added to that anxiety. Please beware and have cameras or pictures and inventory if you use this company or just stay away. read more

I'd like to caution people to think twice before using this company. We were promised that our furniture would be shrink wrapped and only my bedroom set was. On packing day they came without the shrink wrap. My husband called to verify that we were on the schedule and we were on the schedule for the following week. If my husband hadn't called we would not have been moved on the specified day. I was told that a new clock would be put in a special box. It was thrown on top of a box in my storage unit and subsequently broke. I called the company and was told they would email me a form so I could be reimbursed. The form never came. The company is disreputable and are efficient in lying. We got other movers to move our things from the storage unit to my new home. Just be aware of who you are dealing with. read more

I was hoping for a smooth and SMART move. I got a crew of smokers and one guy more interested in his social media and his smartphone. The foreman they sent was fantastic and one of his helpers was great, other than the smoking. The big problems were not labeling the boxes they helped pack and not putting my boxes/possession in the rooms that I had very clearly marked. Not listening when I gave clear instructions where specific items needed to be placed. Finding one of my suitcases left on the sidewalk the next day left by the movers. Small problems finding cigarette butts around both properties. Overall more professional and detailed oriented would be nice for a local move that costs 2,100. The final reason I am giving one star is the pricing and the prorate that I was promised was not forthcoming until I called to get a reason. I called Damion and ask why I did not get the prorate that he quoted over the phone at the finish of my move. He first tried to act confused and not sure what I was talking about. I made it clear what we had discussed with him and he finally remembered. I told him of my concerns about the move and his response was shocking, " I will tell the moving crew you think they are stupid!" WTF!. Sounds like playground threats! You offer feedback and your concerns and he gets flippant and acts like a hurt child. I am not happy with my move and Damion is not interested in feedback or interested in listening to customers' concerns. read more
