Do not buy a warranty from this company. I bought a $3,000 warranty from them and regret it. They will knit-pick every little detail involving your warranty claim to get out of paying for what should be covered parts. I had my Dodge Ram 1500 in for service to deal with a tick coming from the engine and they found that 2 exhaust manifold bolts had broken off and the manifold gasket was now damaged. My warranty claims that the exhaust manifold and intake manifold and any gaskets needed are included, but since the bolts broke they would cover absolutely nothing. $000.00 . They claim that since the bolts are not a molded part of the exhaust manifold that it would not be covered under the warranty. This will cost me $700+ to get repaired. I'm seriously disappointed that I spent a dime on this warranty. It isn't worth the paper it was printed on. DO NOT BUY THIS WARRANTY!! I can't state it any more clearly than that. read more

This company is such a scam. I would rate 0 stars if I could. The customer service is absolutely abhorrent. I wasted a significant amount of time speaking with some woman named Diane on the phone. Called to ask where I could get my car serviced because I had just got the warranty and they failed to mention that I would have to take it to the dealership to avoid the $100 deductible. I took it to the closest mechanic because the cooling fan was broken and the engine could of over heated if i took it all the way to the dealer over an hour away. I would give this company zero stars if I could. I purchased a tire warranty from them 2 years ago. I submitted 2 minor claims without a problem but when I needed more work done, they suddenly decided I would be reimbursed instead of paying the dealer directly. I complained about this but ultimately accepted after multiple assurances from representative Amber that I would be paid all I was owed. I just called today and the representative informs me that they will not pay the sales tax I paid because I am in NY. NY law specifically states insurance pays sales taxes on any auto repairs, yet smart auto care does not care. They are a scam company. Save yourself the trouble and never buy any policy from them. I will likely take them to small claims court as soon as the courts open up here. I used my warranty for an AC repair, they covered it but they stippulated that the needed part had to be shipped to the dealership from their supplier. The Nissan dealer had the part in stock but the warranty wouldn't pay the price that Nissan charged. I had the option to pay the difference, but didn't. I wish that I could leave no stars for this company, but I guess I'm forced to leave one. Where do I even begin? Well for starters my truck has been in the shop for over a week. Who is to blame? Nobody but Smart Autocare. Once the claim was open, it took 4 days to even get someone to come look at my truck, and now it has been 4 days that my repair has been so called "approved." However, the adjuster hasn't taken the time to make a simple phone call to the repair shop to grant them access to work on my truck. I even spoke with a supervisor regarding my issue and she wasn't sure why the adjuster hadn't called the shop yet. But wait, there's more. Since my truck has been in the shop, I have had to borrow a car, which is not safest car to drive at the moment (currently has CV joint issues). I cannot afford a rental car so I have to risk driving the car I am now. My warranty paperwork says I am allotted a rental car during labor hours, but who's fault is it that my truck hasn't started its so called "labor hours?" Smart Autocare. I even asked to get a rental car approved while waiting for the labor hours to start, because Smart Auto care has been moving extremely slow with this whole process. There have been a few call center employees that have been helpful, and there have been a few who couldn't care less what I had to say. When the car sensor on the drivers side did not work Called them and asked if this would be covered. Their employee told me " AS LONG AS IT WAS NOT THE KEY IT WOULD BE COVERED" . I brought it to THE DEALER , they stated that they have NEVER dealt with such an unreasonable company PERIOD. The sensor that is located in the door handle that opens and closes the car was bad and needed to be replaced. They denied the claim because of where the sensor was located. The dealership explained to them this was not because of anything other than the sensor. And it should be replaced they continued to deny the item. As I stated above , I actually called prior to going to the dealership and THEIR EMPLOYEE stated that it would be covered , apparently, they do not stand by their employees or their obligations. Additionally, I had to get involved because they constantly put the service people from dealerships on hold for over 25/ 30 minutes and they could not hold any longer to get approval . If I could choice a zero rating, I would! Bought extended warranty on my 2014 GMC Acadia Denali when I bought the car. A few weeks ago, the check engine light came on so I took it in to the dealership. They said the transmission has issues. Well, Smart Autocare would not even put a reman transmission in. They would only put in a used transmission that more than likely came from a wrecked vehicle. This is not right! We paid about $2,500 for the warrant and they put in a $1,200 transmission! Worst customer service ever, I had my wheel bearings go bad first couple months of owning my new Honda CR-V. I take it to a local shop, didn't know my wheel bearings were covered. So have the local shop fix it, not even a week goes by the wheel bearing goes bad, take it to Honda Dealership to have them look at it. Try to get a claim done, the manager said nope not my problem, I was told I have to take it back to the shop that did the work, even though Honda told me they put the wheel bearings on to tight an couldn't move it. So I told the manager that you want me to drive my car that has a faulty wheel bearing back to the shop that worked on it instead of allowing the Honda dealership to fix it properly, she's like yes, I told them you better pray that I don't get in a accident because of it you denying me to get it fixed by a dealership under a new claim. So take it back to the same shop, they fix it, a few months later the wheel bearings go out again, so this time I argued with smart AutoCare to override the claim to allow me to go to another shop, it was like pulling teeth to get it fixed, come to find out the other shop used a hammer and a grinder on my wheel bearings to get them on. So now a few months later go my drivers side wheel bearing goes out again, not a big deal I thought, it's covered by Firestone. Well come to find out the knuckle and the spindle is needing replaced. Took over 2 weeks to get our car back and that whole time they wouldn't approve the car rental which is in our contract because they hadn't "officially approved the work yet". Tried to get out of everything, used every technicality in the book. We were only successful once we got the car dealership involved that we bought the policy from and they put pressure on them. The rep never answers the phone, and when you leave a message he never returns the call. And all of this happened while we were at the actual Chevy dealer, not some small time mechanic. BUYER BEWARE when it comes to this company! It definitely feels like they receive training on tactics to avoid paying for repairs at all costs and that it is well-orchestrated on many levels. My story ... Not realizing at first that it's the dealership that calls to discuss the repairs and initiate the claim, I called to confirm what would/would not be covered on the list of recommended repairs the dealership made for me. With respect to one $920 repair involving a gasket, after giving her my information so she could look up my plan, I was told it was not covered. When I asked why, the rep on the phone with me cited verbiage from a plan that was not the same one I had, so I had to correct her. Still saying it would not be covered, they then cited a line about seals and gaskets, but one that referred to vehicles with more than 150,000 miles on them, which mine does not have. The rep continued to try to convince me "it's still not covered", and when I explained that you can't just pretend those words aren't in the sentence and that this document that I signed is designed to keep us all on the same page, she said she had to talk to her supervisor. That person (the supervisor) then got on the phone with me and apologized, saying that she had misunderstood when the rep asked her about the repair earlier, and that yes, it WAS in fact covered. Glad that we were now in agreement, I asked if she could please make a note of our discussion and its outcome on my record in their computer system so that when the dealership called them, there would be no confusion. That was last week. Today the dealership called me after initiating the claim with them just before, and informed me that Smart Autocare told them that the $920 gasket repair would NOT be covered. I guess those notes never made their way into the system and/or someone else was trying the same you-know-what with the dealership. How disappointing. So I called again, and again spoke to another rep, who claimed that yes, they see the notes from my previous call in the computer, but that the repair wasn't covered (say what?!), citing the same line the previous rep cited last week! So I repeated the same conversation with rep #2, asking why I had to have the exact same conversation twice now, and why was I the only one that understand the English language as it pertains to contracts (i.e. my vehicle does not have 150,000 miles on it)?! On cue, he again said he had to go speak to his supervisor. When he returned, he corrected himself and said that yes, it would be covered, but now said that he didn't see a reference of that particular repair from when the dealership called in the claim (a few other much less expensive repairs were being covered). Incredulous, I told him that the dealership had just let me know specifically that they'd had to call his company, like, 3 times today, and that his company had asked them to submit two separate claims since some items were being covered but this one was not (obviously so that the rep can later say that he doesn't see record of the uncovered item). "Well, sometimes the dealerships say they do things that they don't do," he told me. I let him know that given the litany of bad reviews of his company online that match the experience I have had so far, my focus is on HIS company as the source of my frustration since my dealership has been helpful and straight-forward with me. I took down his name and asked how we move forward now as I wanted to ensure they would be telling the dealership the same thing he was telling me now - that this repair WAS covered. He told me to please call them, but added that he would be calling the dealership himself to follow up. I doubted that, but was shocked to learn when I called the dealership minutes after hanging up with him that they were actually on the phone with the Smart Autocare rep I had just talked to, who was telling them that the repair would be covered. So.... in the end I guess I jumped through enough hoops to get them to actually honor their contract, but how sad that it cost me about an hour total on the phone and some increased blood pressure and aggravation having to argue about things that are straight-forward that I shouldn't have had to argue over (nor should my dealership have had to). read more

I should've researched this company before buying the $1590.00 warranty for my used 2013 Subaru Legacy. The fuel line started leaking yesterday so I took it to my mechanic to repair it, giving him my policy # along with the claims phone number for "smart autocare." When my mechanic called to give them the estimate for the repair work, Smart Autocare denied the claim because part of the fuel line was made of plastic. I called Smart Autocare and spoke with "Christy" who said that "plastic & rubber" parts were excluded from coverage. When I asked where that was located in the contract, she put me on hold twice and when she came back she had changed the story to "hoses" were excluded from coverage. As I questioned her further about it, she became flustered and when I asked who the CEO is, she told me his name is "Peter" but she was "not allowed to give me his last name". I guess besides denying claims, giving out the CEO's name is also against their company's policy. read more

i bought a vehicle in mid april of 2018, and purchased this warranty service. my truck broke down on may 5th, mutiple cylinder failure... had it towed to a licensed mechanic. mechanic reported claim on 5/7. after back and forth between the mechanic and smart auto care, finally on 6/4, i was contacted by the mechanic stating that the work had been approved and he is moving forward with repair. the work was complete on 6/18, and when my mechanic went to submit the bill, smart auto care said that they never approved the work, therefore refuse to pay the bill which is $5,000.00. my truck is now repaired and being held hostage. this truck has been in the shop longer than i have owned it.. this is now the 7th week!! i wish that i would have read these reveiws before purchasing.. i would not recommend this buisness to my worst enemy!!! read more

To start off we believe this company is nothing but a SCAM! They have not covered any of our repairs that the contract says it covers. There web site is nothng but lies. They don't care about there customers or there needs.They wouldn't pay the price for factory replacement parts. (FRP) Also wouldn't pay to clean and recharge ac which was highly recommend by the mechanic. We purchased this contact 10/25/2016 for 1,649.00 and is a 5 year or 60,000 miles which we still have miles left. Since they refused to pay for a water pump/ac repair the correct way suggested by the mechanic we were left paying the full bill and stranded. We still have an electrically problem which we now know they probably will not cover it. Also we were told we were responsible to find our own certified mechanic who would take this warranty and pay for us to rent a car till repaired. Well smart autocare warranty got me again, this time for a blown head gasket, they denied me because i change my own oil and don't keep receipts from every oil change, and beside the fact that blowing a head gasket has ZERO, ZIP, NADA to do with a blown head gasket, it stemmed from a shop filling up my radiator recovery tank and it is where you add antifreeze, they didn't bleed the air out of the system, (like we all know we are supposed to remove a plug of different metals, that weld them selves due to electrolysis), i made it 3 miles when it happened, AND IT IS COVERED , but was denied because i change my own oil, i am telling you the honest to gods truth, and the nearly $1900. dollars is only refundable for the first 20 days, how they picked that number of days i'll never know, so i'm fed up with these crooks, the BBB has many similar complaints about these schmucks, run, do not sign with these guys, anything over $600 and they will look for excuses to not pay, like not answering their phone when they see a repair shop on the caller ID.If i could give negative stars, that is what i would give read more

We bought a Jeep in May with a "bumper to bumper warranty" from Smart Autocare. A couple weeks ago (mid July), the Jeep started having some issues so we took it in for an estimate. We were going to have to replace the brakes, rotors, calipers, and some other things. When we called Smart Autocare, they told us they would only cover the calipers. So we set up an appointment to have it fixed. When the mechanic called them to authorize the payment on the calipers, they refused to pay and the manager ("Bobby") was extremely rude, unprofessional, and immature to both the mechanic and my husband. He called the mechanic a "liar" and then claimed that we had purchased the Jeep with those issues and that he had my husband on some recording saying the issues were pre-existing. (I explained that if these issues were pre-existing, I wouldn't have bought the Jeep. And even if I had bought it with those issues, I wouldn't have driven on bad brakes for two months.) He refused to listen. We ended up cancelling the warranty through the dealership and are getting our money back. Long story short, don't waste your time or your money on Smart Autocare. read more
