This store needs new management and needs to train their employees better. Every time I go into this store, there is only 2 lines open and Matt the cashier is working one of them and he is so slow and not friendly at all. The last 3 times I have been in the store it takes me longer to check out because either someone wants a rain check, or there is a customer with WIC vouchers or the cashiers don't know what they are doing and needs assistance. Super disappointed. Smart & Final has always carried a large selection of First Street brown rice and legumes (a wide variety of beans, peas, lentils) to include bulk sizes. Looks like they just removed all of that from their stores. That was one of the big reasons I loved this store. The other thing is that every time I buy First Street milk or half & half there, it always goes bad super quick regardless of expiration date. Maybe it's not kept cold enough? I won't buy milk products there because of this. For these reasons, I will not be visiting the store as often for sure. :/ read more

There is absolutely no savings here. The prices are significantly higher than other stores. They dont have a meat department, they actually purchase prepackaged meats. $11.49 a pound for rib eye, crazy when you can buy it elsewhere for much less. Produce department overpriced. Save big on asparagus @$3.49 a pound, come on. No bakery department and not enough checkers. I will drive the extra few miles to save and visit a real grocery store. read more

Very nice store ! Very nice produce department , awesome bulk bins ( just like sprouts but not as much), and everything else your typical grocery store would have . I love that everything comes in all sizes small to restaurant size products. I didn't find their prices THAT great for smaller items. If you were to buy the bigger items it's a good deal ! I really wanted this store to work out and I have supported it as long as I can..Sunday was my last straw..the produce looked really bad and all I could smell was over ripened bananas..They were all almost black..I bought hummus that I had to ask the checker to send back as it had expired that day..customer service is not too great either..most checkers there dont even say hello or smile when they're checking your groceries, almost making you feel like a burden....in fairness though there are a few younger male checkers that have been really personable and friendly but there are only a few like that..I've seen many changing hands in this location but this by far the worst..I dont usually give bad reviews but feel this is warranted.. read more

Horrible. No bakery no deli no meat counter. The shelves are way too tall and make you feel like your gonna be entrapped in them. Staff not helpful at all. Sucks. Really had high hopes for it. Looks like it's back to Von's and Sprouts. read more

Came here a few times now and every single time the cashiers are beyond rude. I mean seriously rude. We had one take another customer behind us and when they mentioned we were ahead of them and should be taken first, the cashier glared at them and at us and refused to check either of us out and simply stood at the second register doing nothing. There are tons of places to pick up groceries, until they either train these cashiers or hire ones that actually care about doing their job, we won't be back. I've had friendlier service at Wal-Mart on Black Friday in the middle of law away and that is saying a lot. read more

I didn't think there was much difference from a regular smart and final. Not much selection. Only good for some things like sale junk food. Also, pay attention to your receipt. I think the cashier snuck in his Diet Pepsi because it was randomly in the middle of our receipt but we didn't get no Diet Pepsi. read more

Went here for the first time and it is nice, as a new store should be. They really had the staff ramped up which was good since it was so busy. Brianna was my cashier and she was friendly and did a good job getting me out of there quickly while still making it feel like a neighborhood market. I will definitely be back. read more

We've got milk there 4 times and every time it expires that day or 2 days later. I have a 1 and 2 year old so I always forget to check the date as I'm trying to get out in a hurry. But definitely not going back there anymore. read more

Just moved into Santee and figured I would give Smart and Final a try. After just 2 weeks shopping I already realize how much I am saving compared to vons or an albertons, and they always have what I need in stock! The short/speedy lines are a reason alone to keep returning, never again will I waste my precious time by standing in line at vons for 15 minutes just to ring up 2 customers. I am loving smart and final Santee, they save me time and money!! read more

I love being able to come to this store when Im visiting family in santee. It's a great place to shop. Great prices. All employees are beyond helpful. I love coming here and getting the jalapeño chicken that they have in the meat section. All in all just a good store to shop at. read more

I'm glad to have a store close by but you have to check the expire dates on everything. Yesterday Alta Dena milk was up to 3 days expired. In the few months they have been open, I have found at least 4 cases where dates were expired. They need to figure out how this is happening. read more

We love this Smart & Final! It's our go-to grocery store, and they always have what we need for the best prices. (Any specialty items they may not carry, we just get from Vons; no big deal.) The staff is great, and the checkout is always quick even if there's a line. Certainly no complaints here! Hoping Smart & Final stays in this location, as it's very convenient for us too! read more

Not a fan of this place. The prices really aren't good. The selection isn't good. There is no meat counter no deli counter no bakery. It seems there is no identity. It's trying to be a traditional market a club store and also a specialty bulk foods store all at ounce while failing at all. Most the employees however are friendly. read more

I try to avoid this store but since it's the closet store to where I live and I was ill, I've gone twice recently. Every time I've gone to the produce dept. they are missing signs and prices, that is not hyperbole, and when I ask for help the employees seem to have no idea. The cashier's are the WORST, they lack customer service skills and lack of training. For instance while the cashier was bagging my groceries, I asked her to please put the lettuce on top so it would not get smashed by the milk and icecream and she said, "do you want to bag your own groceries" (Actually, I normally do) OMG, what a brat that grown woman was! She also did not believe me when I told her the price of radishes that I had to ask for, and the produce manager gave me a price and said, just tell them Gino said so. Nope, she called him on the intercomm and he came over and confirmed I was correct that was the price to charge me. SPROUTS, would never do that to a customer. I don't care how bad I feel, I won't be coming back to this store I will drive across town to my friendly and less-expensive SPROUTS. read more
