Produce quality has been improving and there have been more employees available to make the check out experience more enjoyable. The selection of foods have been consistently stocked.

I called Smart and Final's corporate office this morning who referred me to the Atascadero store manager, Richard Towers. I called five separate times only to have the phone ring once and then go dead each time. Let me preface by saying that I know it's a stressful time for all first responders, including our grocery store workers. However, all of Smart and Final's social media posts reference how grateful the company is for its customers. Apparently, Tina at the Atascadero store hasn't received that message. She was extremely rude and condescending to my husband last Saturday. He is approaching 80 and has early stage Alzheimer's disease. She literally yelled at him for putting our recycable bag on her counter commenting "now you've contaminated my counter that I just disinfected" and made some smart ass remark that she didn't know "where our bag had been". When he asked where he should put the bag to load the groceries, she said to "put it on the floor or hold it". Classy response. We witnessed her yell at a young Hispanic man walking into the store that he "couldn't come in without a mask" and to "read the sign out front". Even we had not noticed a sign out front but were wearing masks. The poor guy turned around and left the store. Yet, two unmasked people came in behind him and nothing was said to them. She also made some snarky remark about kicking my husband out of the store for not following the rules. Somebody please send Tina back to a refresher course on public relations. The COVID stay-at-home order has brought out the best in people and, in this case, the worst. Take her off checkstand number one. There is absolutely no reason to be berated going to the damn grocery store, especially for a senior citizen with health challenges. I'm angry at her and even more disappointed in myself that I didn't leave my groceries on her "now contaminated" counter and exit the store empty handed. I've tried to support this store since it opened, but my shopping experience on April 18 was not "Smart" but was "Final". You'll never have the opportunity to treat us poorly again. There are other grocery stores in town.

They have a lot of great things I can't find anywhere else but it is way tooooooo cold in there! I won't go just so I don't freeze.

This has become my go-to market. The selection has become rather reliable and the prices are…read moresurprisingly affordable. Many times, the items I purchase at Gather are less expensive than at Vons. - I really like that they have a loyalty program. Sometimes, they will email you a coupon and you can also accumulate points. They always offer a box at checkout which is environmentally friendly and plastic free. - I think the produce area does a great job of avoiding access packaging. They offer compostable bags which is great for the environment. I would love to see more of the prepackaged items on the shelves in non-plastic containers. I recently purchased a plant-based eggnog. Since it was the only one offered, I had to buy the brand in plastic jugs and would prefer paper/cardboard (like the hemp mylk).

This is a must stop off the 101 Fwy exactly 108 miles north of Santa Barbara and 202 miles northwest of Beverly Hills. You get a beautiful, clean, very well organized store with fresh and local( love that) organic produce and products. A really nice variety of healthy snacks, protein bars and juices. The premade sandwiches are extraordinary- we had the Veggie and the balance and the taste was phenomenal- no extra mustard or mayonnaise needed. The vegan salad with fried tofu and this divine( I forgot the name) and deadly dressing was fantastic. The quality of the ginger and the lemons bursting with juice was top notch. The manager Robin was stellar. She showed us the sandwich section , the juices; put everything in a nice box for us to go enjoy outside in their patio in the 74 degree sunshine as happy faces and healthy folks walked by. Great store!!
