This place is always closed - even though it is during posted open hrs. Call before you go! Doesn't deserve the franchise name

Their hours online, and maps and on their door say they open at 1pm. I went to open the door and it was locked. There was a lady inside that wouldn't even look at me. It was weird. lol. Then I happened to look over to the right, and their "sorry, we are closed" sign is up. After looking at the other reviews, I can see why they have bad ones. One word --Molds. Icing in Red Velvet and Cookies and Cream cupcakes tasted "moldy" along with the ice cream. My digestive system is pretty tough against things like these including food poisoning, but this time, I got upset stomach and loose bowel movement. I didn't even want to come back for a refund. The food at small cakes is delicious, no doubt! I am concerned that their worker just used their hand (not gloved) to separate my cupcake for the smash icecream. It looks delicious but I'm worried to eat it now that her finger nails and hands have touched my food. First let me start by saying that I love the cupcakes they sell here. They are all VERY good, nice variety, and consistently look nice. This review is NOT about the cupcakes, (those get 5 stars) but about a custom cake order: I wanted a "galaxy" cake for my husband's 30th birthday. We have bought cupcakes from this location before, so I thought this would be the perfect place to order from. I emailed them a picture of what I wanted, and received a call from the head baker a day later. She said they could absolutely do it, and gave me some good advice on cake size for the amount of people we were having. I was very excited, as we don't usually order cakes like this. I wanted this to be special for my husband. I went to pick up the cake today, again very excited. The girls brought the cake from out back, and through the crack in the box, all I could see was black or navy frosting.. I asked if we could pull it out (which she obliged). I started turning it around, still not seeing the colors. The girl working the register pointed to the top of the cake, showing the barely-there bit of "galaxy". I admit I was disappointed, just nodding. She then says "Oh, well, it's dark inside the box, you just can't see the other colors." I didn't know what else to say, and didn't want to argue, so I just signed the sheet, picked up the cake, and left. My mother in law and I pulled it out at home, and her immediate comment was "You paid $60 for a navy blue cake with sprinkles?" Cue complete deflation. I felt horrible. The cake ended up tasting okay, and my husband thought his "black" frosted cake was cool, I just didn't show him what the reference photo looked like. I will keep coming back here for cupcakes, but I will probably order any future "custom" cakes somewhere else. A friend pointed out that the color probably melted into the black frosting during prep, which makes sense, but I wish they had told me that when I picked it up, instead of telling me that I just wasn't seeing the color inside the box. read more

Quick stop for a sweet treat! The beautiful treats made for an amazing presentation. The place was nice and clean, however lacked that "awwwww" bakery smell that dances through your nostrils and allows your tastebuds to run wild with the possibility of what you might indulge. Leaving me with a question "how fresh are these treats?" Only 1 cake pop, $3 average price. The inside was too wet. We have been regular clients at Smallcakes Rosenberg since they first opened. Since the place was sold to new owners, we have noticed the lack of importance in taking care of their customers and ensuring properly made items. Recently, we ordered a strawberry cake with strawberry icing and strawberry filling. We were contacted the day before we were to pick up our cake that changes would need to be made because after baking two cakes, the baker wasn't able to get the cake to stay put together. Mind you, this was a 6 inch cake! Lol... To be a good sport we accepted the changes (they didn't refund us do to change either) and to our surprise, we're sold a raw cake for our guests! I contacted the store immediately and almost two weeks later, still no response of any kind. Go to any location but Rosenberg! read more

I got 4 different cupcakes. The birthday cake, lemon drop, chocolate fudge and I can't remember the name of the one that looks like little Debbie cupcakes. I found the fudge cake itself to be a bit dry frosting on all cupcakes was really really sweet. My lemon drop cupcake was delicious the cake itself was moist. Cupcakes disappear quickly so come early or call ahead to place an order. Smallcakes is a franchise and beginning to open up all over the Houston area and Country. Maybe they'll make it to Speedway, Indiana someday soon. Smallcakes prepares Daily, and from scratch, 18 featured cupcakes out of the abundance of flavors available with weekly and monthly featured flavors. Each cupcake is a full, standard size cupcake at $3.75. I've tried the Lemon Drop, Wedding Cake, Hot Fudge Sundae and Caramel Crunch. The Lemon Drop is my favorite followed closely by the Caramel Crunch. The cupcakes are moist and flavorful topped with a thick, creamy, buttercream icing that isn't sickinly sweet. Many of the cupcakes have a rich filling such as the Lemon Drop, Hot Fudge Sundae and Chocolate Cream. Smallcakes donates every cupcake remaining at the end of business day to a Women's Shelter so their is no waste. All cupcakes and ice cream are made fresh daily so we receive the freshest product. Not only do they make cupcakes but15 phenomenal ice cream flavors and specialty cakes. I sampled the Wedding Cake that truly lived up to the name and had a scoop of the Salted Caramel Crunch which was sinful. Each scoop is $3.75. I can't wait to try the Smashcake which is your favorite cupcake split in half with the bottom in a tall cup, two scoops of ice cream in the middle, topped off with the top half of the cupcake. Yum! The Shakes are made with your favorite cupcake and ice cream blended together. The service was as perfect as the Salted Caramel Ice Cream. This place lacks leadership and customer service. They never have inventory of top sellers... because they sell out. Well... if you are selling out of top sellers, you should make more. They don't have certain flavors at times... because these aren't top sellers. Then shouldn't they still have stick? If your coupon expires on Friday.... you better not be one day late!! It will not be honored regardless the circumstances. I didn't get my birthday gift because I was out of town on my birthday. I didn't get my BOGO free coupon because I was a day late. Great customer service would be offer to make more cupcakes if you are out of a certain flavor desired by your client. Great service would be to honor coupons within a grace period. The cake portion of the cupcakes are melt in your mouth soft. Their icing is super sweet but I am not an icing person so I don't eat it anyway. Some of the cupcakes are filled inside. I feel like a lot of their cupcakes are chocolate or vanilla with different icing (& again I don't eat icing) so unless I come early and get their daily specials (Nutella, fruity pebbles, etc) I'd be stuck with the basic. Their ice cream flavors are unique and pretty good. Ice cream is pricey. Cupcakes are $3.75/cupcake except if you get the gluten free ($5). My family and I wanted something sweet so we decided to order from Smallcakes . First off the staff was very pleasant I ordered through DoorDash so they called right away but right off the bat there already out of 3 of the flavors I ordered so after going over what they do have I just decided to go ahead and go forth with the order . When we received our cupcakes they didn't look like the pictures online they were nice enough but were missing items I mean the whole reason you order something is because of how it looks in the picture, then on top of that they were all dry out like they were not fresh , I had order a cake called " Choco oholic " or something like that and the cake was chocolate but the frosting I have no idea what it supposed to be and completely dried out . My first visit this afternoon around 1:30 pm. Very impressed with the nice clean space and decor. The had a good variety to choose from. I purchased the chocolate with creme filled similar to the Hostess cupcake. Loved it, moist and tender cake, delish chocolate ganache style frosting. This cupcake has now ruined Hostess for me. Lol. Tomorrow will have the milk chocolate cupcake for dessert. The lady who took my order gave me a quick overview on the product and selections. She was very friendly and generously gave me a discount for my birthday and explained the reward bonus. Let me start with, this is our fault for leaving the store. We paid A LOT of money for a cake for my daughter's 4th birthday. I am pretty sure she could have done better. My wife asked for princesses, we got them. We asked for my daughter's name we did not get that. We asked for a number 4 for her age, we did not get that. The icing looks like it was clumped on in a few places. they blue at the top looks like someone took bites out of it. The two pieces of cake look like they stacked blobs, and it is slightly leaning forward. It is just a terrible, amateurish attempt at a cake. I am waiting on a call back from the owner. I went to this store to get cupcakes. I was about to get a dozen but my friend said to try it out first and we got 1 of each flavor. The cakes were not completely baked and the other 2 were hard and tasted so stale and off. The ice cream was also so chewy and stretchy that we couldn't eat them. Honestly for someone who doesn't love cakes and was trying to get back to loving them. I am totally disappointed and felt like I wasted $3.50 on each of these cupcake. I enjoy eating smash cake with the top of the cupcake on top, two scoops of ice cream and the bottom of the cupcake at the bottom of the cup. You also can purchase a push pop with two mini cupcakes inside for just $2. This will be my cupcake run instead of going to GiGi's. The cashier was very nice and informative.
